Amateur or Ham Radio
Amateur or ham radio has been a hobby that has captured the imagination and interest of many millions of people since the first radio ameurs started transmitting around the end of the nineteenth century. Since then radio hams have contributed to science, pioneered radio technology, assisted in emergency operations, and of course they have enjoyed pursuing a fascinating hobby that they enjoy. There are many aspects to ham radio. Many enjoy operating their equipment, other radio hams enjoy the technical side of the hobby or constructing. Many others enjoy experimenting with areas such as antennas. In fact there is no hard and fast rules about what you need to do - just make the hobby of ham radio what you want. One aspect of amateur radio that many enjoy is that of collecting QSL cards. These cards confirm contacts and can be very colourful and interesting to collect. |
