Minutes of Yorkshire Chess Association held at York on 25th

June, 2005

 

Members Present.

The following members were present – A. J. Griffith, J. Hipshon, Paul Clarke, Peter Cloudsdale, Ian Strickland, Dave Milton, Alan McIntosh, Rupert Jones, David Tooley, Nigel Hepworth, Peter Shaw, Neville Pearce, Richard Palliser, Paul Hopwood, Steve Burton, Ihor Lewyk, Stuart Johnson, Bill O`Rourke (guest : NCCU) and Alan Coupe.

 

Apologies for absence.

Apologies were received from Paul Blackman, Peter Tate and Mike Dow.

 

Minutes of last meeting.

None were available. They will be published on the website.

 

Matters arising.

There were no matters arising.

 

Treasurer's Report.

The accounts were presented and the treasurer pointed out how much interest was paid out on each account. It was decided to leave £100 in Lloyds Junior A/C and transfer the rest to Halifax Junior A/C. The annual fees are as follows:

Constituent Member Affiliation  £10.00 per club/association

League Entry                                £10.00 per team

Player registration see NMS below. Juniors are under 18 at 01/09/05            

 

NMS Scheme

It was decided to alter the order of the meeting to allow Bill O`Rourke to present a power point display on this item. It was agreed that the YCA would send out a fee request to clubs. NMS members would pay £1 for adults and £0.50 for juniors. Non NMS members would pay £4 for adults and £2 for juniors.

 

Secretary's Report.

Steve Mann was not present to present his report.

 

Competition Controller’s Report

The controller reported that two teams had dropped out which left thirty-three teams. It was a successful year with few defaults and only two matches defaulted and two matches rearranged.

Woodhouse Cup – York & R. I. A  retained.

I. M. Brown Shield – Wakefield A

Silver Rook – Sheffield D

A. G. Sunderland – Alwoodley B and South Yorks. This is still continuing as a junior jamboree. There were four events and only one coincided with a YCA fixture. This is still generating new members.

Woodhouse Cup – Huddersfield A and Sheffield B were relegated to I. M. Brown and Wakefield A and York & R. I. C were promoted.

I. M. Brown – Hull B and Bradford B were relegated to the Silver Rook and Sheffield D and Dewsbury were promoted to the Woodhouse Cup.

Silver Rook – Sheffield D and Dewsbury were promoted.

 

Report from Secretary for Junior Chess

The secretary issued a printed report. He made the point that a committee was needed to help run junior chess in Yorkshire and to help with a selection trial for next year`s teams.

 

Correspondence Chess Report.

A printed report was issued. Last year all events were won by the county. There is no financial costing to the YCA. The meeting congratulated Dave Milton on work well done.

Trophies were presented to the winners.

Rule Changes

Neville Pearce proposed the following rule change:

 

Rule A13 to be reworded as follows:

In the event of a tie (dual or multiple) in the places affecting either championship or promotion/relegation issues, the following tie-break procedures will be used:

(a) The game points of the teams will decide. If this does not resolve the tie then:

      1) With a dual tie, the individual match result between the teams concerned             

           decides.

       2) With a multiple tie, the game points gained in the matches between the tied

            teams shall decide.

(b) If the teams are still tied then the Principal Officers shall, after consultation with    

      the affected CMs, decide on a suitable tie break.
