Advent. Season before Christmas, Benefice services include a Nine lessons and Carols choral service at St. Andrews' and traditional Crib Service at St. Denys'. Christmas. Christ's birth is celebrated. Candlelit Midnight Communion followed by Christmas Day services. Plough Sunday Traditional service of a country church to pray for God's blessing on the land for it to be fruitful. A genuine hand plough is included into the service. Shrove Tuesday. A time for confession before Lent, but also a time for pancakes!! Celebrated in the Benefice with a Parish Party--a time of excellent dining, entertainment good company and pancakes. Ash Wednesday. The first day of Lent. Opportunity to attend the Ash Wednesday service and be sprinkled with ashes. A Lent study course begins. Mothering Sunday. A day to honour all mothers. Always a popular church service with children receiving posies of flowers to offer to their mothers. Palm Sunday. Christ's entry into Jerusalem is celebrated. The Benefice commemorates the day by processing with palms from the Village Hall to St. Peter's , where palm crosses are offered to the congregation. Maundy Thursday. The Last Supper. The Benefice Communion service includes the washing of hands to commemorate Christ's washing of the Apostles' feet. Good Friday. The Friday before Easter commemorating the Crucifixion of Christ. Celebrated in the Benefice with an All Age Service during the day and a reflective Meditation Service .The augmented church choir lead the congregation in a very moving Easter Choral Service during the evening at St. Andrew's. Easter Vigil. The eve of Easter. A quiet, candlelit time to reflect on Christ's Crucifixion with readings and meditation. Easter Sunday. The festival commemorating the resurrection of Christ. And the reason it moves around the calendar? It is always the first Sunday after the calendar full moon falling on or next after 21st March!! The services often have chocolate eggs in abundance! Rogation Sunday. Sunday before Ascension. Traditionally marked by prayers at suitable sites around the Benefice. A delightful circuit by tractor and trailer or hiking around our local farms to pray for good crops. Ascension Day. ascension of Christ into heaven. Sixth Thursday after Easter. Whit Sunday (Or White Sunday), the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost. Rector's Garden Party. Time to relax at the Rectory to enjoy good food and good company. St. Peter's Patronal Day. 29th June. Patronal Service. Harvest Festival. Thanksgiving time for harvest. Always popular services to offer gifts of fruit and vegetables and give thanks to God. Gifts are later given to the elderly in the Parishes. St. Denys' Patronal Day. 9th October. Patronal service.. Remembrance Sunday, A day of remembrance for those who lost their lives in war. Church service in morning and Ecumenical service at War Memorial in the afternoon. St. Andrew's .Patronal Day. 30th November. Patronal Service
