Rising from the abyssal depths to over 4000feet, The Commonwealth of Dominica has rightfully become the playground of the discerning adventure traveler. Not blessed with wild nightlife, or miles of sandy beaches so abundant on the other islands, the people visiting here are those who want to experience nature as it was meant to be. Over 80% of the island is cloaked in the only tropical rainforest in the Caribbean, an equal amount of this is protected as National park, The rivers, waterfalls and the hikes in the forests are what bring the topside patrons back year after year. Along with the quiet that accompanies the feeling tiredness from having really enjoyed yourself in a totally natural surrounding for the day. Experiencing nature on it’s own terms. Untouched

Seahorse For the diver however, there are vertical walls dropping over 10,000 feet, huge overhangs, caves and tunnels. All within a pristine reef system. Numerous invertebrates call this island habitat home and the seahorses and frogfish, to name but two hard to find species, are plentiful. Many being seen right off the boat dock. Dominica has in the past five years become the place where many of the worlds top underwater photographers come to shoot their prizewinning shots of small hard to find marine creatures. If you’re an underwater photographer, or would like to begin, you would be hard pressed to find a better area.

Whale watching has a yearlong home here on Dominica, due to the incredible depth of water. Species found include Sperm whale, Dwarf Sperm, Melon headed, long and short fin Pilot, Cuviers beaked, and also more and more frequently Humpback.

Dolphin species include, Common, Spinner, Spotted and sometimes Bottlenosed. Many of theses are often encountered on the way to a dive site.

Whale watching trips can also be included in your itinerary or booked locally. Many research vessels from the USA and Europe pay call here as do film crews from the BBC, National Geographic and the Discovery Channel.

Most divers prefer the dive/hike vacation, diving in the morning, returning for a wash and lunch then heading off on an inland hike in the afternoon. Other distractions include Mountain-biking, sea kayaking and horse riding, all of which can be booked locally. Then of course there’s the sunset to cap a perfect day
