Band in Tunisia
Week 2 of a Scottish Country Dancing Holiday fortnight,
held in the Tej Marhaba, Sousse, which is only a short
coach trip from the International Airport near Monastir.

Tej Marhaba outdoor pool

If a certain well known intoxicating beverage manufacturer
owned a hotel, would it be this one?

No, probably not this one either.........

I am sure there will be a great many hotels offering excellent standards of both
accommodation and food in Tunisia. However if you are satisfied with:

a) scrambled rubber for breakfast

or
b) cold baked potatoes with tepid string for dinner,
then boy - are you in luck or what??

It is possible within the complex to have "leather" and chips for lunch. It's actually listed on the
menu as "Chicken Breast". Also within the "resort", you can sample the largest, thinnest cheese
omelette you are ever going to see in your entire life.
It's my guess that they put the hens through a mangle just before they lay the egg
1*
enabling them to make 2 omelettes from 1 small egg. That sort of ties the two together.
I'm sure the cheese (traditionally PART of a "Cheese Omelette") would have been marvellous -
but for one small detail. I couldn't actually find any.

At least the chef (I use the term advisedly) had the decency to extinguish his fag while he
was actually cooking. The manageress however used the kitchen as her smoking area.
It's a funny old world........or is it just me? No, it isn't.....................

NOTE: In fairness to the Tej Marhaba, the hotel staff are ALL very friendly and helpful.
The rooms are cleaned to a reasonable standard - or, with a small tip of 1Dinar a day pp (1 Dinar approximately UK 50p) to an excellent standard. Bins emptied, clean sheets and towels, carpets vacuumed, balcony swept, bathroom cleaned, fresh tumblers - even your toiletries arranged daily.

Hotel Air Conditioning obviously turned off during our visit (19th - 26th March)
Even when turned down to "0 deg C", my room just got hotter.
Function Suite (for SCD) was the same. Not an ideal situation.

1*Allegedly

Incidentally - if you don't smoke, I recommend you start before going to
Tunisia. After a week, you'll feel as though you have a 40-a-day habit anyway.

I find it difficult to imagine a lesser display of respect for no smoking areas.
The new section at the airport (Habib Bourguiba) is thick with fag smoke.

I was appalled that even airport officials themselves openly ignore the signs.
What sort of an example is that to set to your staff?

Why are they there?

(that question involves both signs and officials, though not in that order!)
