Mainsheet - March 2000
New Season Start
Compound Clearing - 1st
and 2nd April
Shrug
off the winter and welcome a new sailing season.
We need a really good turn out on Saturday to clear the site of winter debris and fix all the small defects before the new sailing season starts. Please bring tools for gardening, painting and carpentry, but if you have no tools still come we will lend you some.
Jobs that can’t be finished on Saturday will complete on Sunday -
Please
try and come on one or other of these days.
Before I go any further I must first apologise to Paul Illman. I failed to mention at the AGM that he is standing down from the committee. Paul served on the Committee of the ODC for several years as was of great assistance; in particular playing an important part in establishing the much closer relationship between the club and the caravan owners when the administration of caravans and car park was being reorganised. Many thanks, Paul.

As a result of the changes in the committee from this year’s AGM some responsibilities have been reallocated. So that you all know whom to contact on which matter here is a complete list:

Rod Newing Treasurer
Nick Croston Secretary
Graeme Woods Racing Officer

Looking Forward
Compound Clearing - The recent warm, sunny spring weather makes the possibility of sailing seem closer. Lets hope that it stays fine for the compound clearing weekend. We need a really good turn out to clear up after the winter and do all the small maintenance jobs that prepare the site for the new season. Try and join us on the Saturday and if that is not possible come down on Sunday to see if there is anything left to finish off.
Bring some gardening or D-I-Y tools with you if you can. If you want to be sure of an interesting job you can contact Peter Atkey in advance to offer your skills and identify specific work to do.
Safety - The Safety boat will be manned on weekends from 15 April getting the season started. When your turn for safety boat duty comes along please be conscientious and not only turn up, but be aware of all that is going on around the club that day. You are the official face of the club for the day and should be alert to anything that could compromise safety (such as power boats close inshore or swimmers where boats are launching and landing).
Sailing - There
is an early event on Easter Sunday to encourage you to get your boat out. This
will be a short cruise along to Goring with lunch at the Sea Lane Café.
The Millennium Event – Mark your diaries now for Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 June our “Millennium Madness” weekend. This is also the East Preston festival weekend so our plan to launch our whole fleet will now take place on the Sunday, but earmark the whole weekend – there will be plenty of fun, social and sailing activities. Vic Smith is going to be our coordinator for the events of the weekend - More details with the next Mainsheet.
A long look Forward – Dinner Dance
There are few places close to home that can take our numbers for the dance in the autumn, and the Rugby Club has been suggested. The only stumbling block to this selection is that we would have to go for a Friday rather than Staurday evening. Would this prevent you from coming? Please make your feelings known soon. You can reach Martin Solomon on 771849.
