also shown along with his family was, Betsey Wood, Sister-in-law, age 12y, b Lonford, Essex.

There is mention of a C. Courtman, Hatfield, Chelmsford, Farmer. in the 1862 Kelly`s Directory of Essex. at this stage we are not sure it is the same C. Courtman.

Marriage Notes for CHRISTOPHER COURTMAN and EMMA WOOD:
Christopher and Emma were possibly living with Emma`s parents at Langford, and also James was born there. by 1841 they had moved to Hatfield Peverel as shown with the birth of the remaining children.

The family are shown together (except Elizabeth) in the 1851 census, at Hatfield Peverel, Essex. Elizabeth would have been only ten years old. as she was known to have survived beyond this date, we are unsure as to why this is.
also shown in 1851 was, Betsey Wood, Sister-in-law, age 12y. could be she helped out on the farm.

we are unsure where Joseph was buried, he is not shown on the MI for St Mary The Virgin, Little  Baddow. or the U.R.C. Little Baddow. it could be the stone was unreadable, defaced or missing. assuming he was actually buried there.

Walter William was the eldest son of Joseph and Rebecca of little Baddow. he was baptised at the church in Little Baddow, in December 1831. he married Lydia Radley in 1852 with there son George baptised the following year, followed later by there daughter Sarah Ann in 1855.
Walter William died in 1856 aged just 25 years.

some years later his son George left for Australia where he married three times And fathered three children.

Charles Walter worked for the Weekly News in Chelmsford, he joined the paper in January 1925, when it was in the ownership of the Taylor family and operated from 26 High Street.
Up until his retirement in December 1969, Charlie worked first as a machine minder and then as a reader. Serving for 45 years, he became one of the company`s longest serving employees.

Doris was the youngest of ten children, six girls and four boys. she was first married to Walter Wade 17/05/1930, when she would have been 18y old. she was with child around this time forcing there early marriage. Walter was a Store Keeper and  worked for Ridley`s brewery, Hartford End, Essex. after they were married they were known to have lived in one of the `tied` cottages owned by the brewery at Hartford End. there was believed to be around three cottages, and they lived in the third one. the cottages are said to still be there, as is the brewery.
the child that they were expecting was born 20/07/1930, a girl, named Jean. she only lived a few short years and is probably buried in the local church yard. this will have to be researched along with her birth details.

Doris & Charles met at Colchester Army camp in the early years of the second world war, Doris was a NAFFI girl,and Charles was said to be in the REEME, stationed at Colchester. it is not certain if Doris & Walter had by this time separated, or if Doris had a affair. what is certain is that they lived together as man and wife after Charles was de mobbed from the army, probably 1945 or 1946. this is documented with the birth of there first child Jean born 22 Feb 1946 in Chelmsford. They moved shortly after to 29 Albion Grove, Stoke Newington, N 16, London. It is thought that Charles Brother William, and Sister inlaw also moved to the same street. Later Charles & Doris moved to Boleyn Road nearby, as it believed Charles worked at a Garage at his trade as a Motor Fitter. Doris was concerned about still being married to Walter Wade, and living as husband and wife, with Charles and child. they decided that Doris should change her name by deed poll to Fraser for decency sake. she obviously pressured Walter Wade for a divorce, but he never gave it. Doris had to wait the statuary seven years to be able to get divorced. this must have happened around the same time that there second child Janice was born, 17 Feb 1948.

Harry was a flight Seargent in the Royal Air force in WW2, he was in the first reserve and flew many sorties. these have been recorded by Harry in a Typograph he made out after the war, from notes he kept of his operations. he would have been in serious trouble if the R.A.F. new of his notes. but he was obviously a very careful man, anyone who flew over fifty sorties over many enemy held countries and survive, must have been.

He never told his wife Daphne much about his war time exploits, and these only came to light following his death when Daphne was sorting through his things, and must have come as a bit of a shock to have realised that her husband was a war hero.
