Gracie,
my cinnamon oriental, had to be put to sleep.
Her story is very very sad. She was due to
give birth, but was not showing any signs of doing so. She was well in
herself and although she was panting a lot she was showing no signs of labour.
I waited until I could wait no more and consequently took her to the vet.
The
outcome of it all was that my darling Gracie had lymposarcoma and advised me to
have her put to sleep because it was very doubtful whether Gracie could give
birth, let alone have strong healthy kittens.
However,
just before the vet wanted to do the dreadful deed, she went into labour and
gave birth to four strong healthy kittens. The surgery kept Gracie alive
for 4 days to give the kittens a start but by the fourth day Gracie was rapidly
going down and she was put gently to sleep with her babies beside her.
The
good news is that one of the kittens survived and my thanks must go to Linda Hoal,
another breeder who lives near me, who took the kitten to foster. Her
girl had just given birth to 6 kittens and Linda felt that one more would not
put too much of a strain on her.
Gracie's
one surviving kitten is now six months old and is doing well. Her new
owners, Helen and Rob, love her to bits. After all she is a very special
girl.
