Im wondering if u would be able to help me track down some information on James Baldock parents.
Which are William Baldock and Francis Beck.

Thanking you
Deanne

Dear John Baldock
I have been talking to Brigid and she gave me your e-mail address.
My name is Deanne and i'm doing a family tree on Baldock's.
I have been tracing a William Baldock and a Francis Beck from England but i'm not having much luck in finding anything out like birth, marriage or death information.
They had a son James Baldock born 1810, Lynstead Parish, England. James was brought to Australia on a boat called Recovery from London and laned in Hobart, Tasmaina. James died in 1891 in Deloraine Tasmaina. James married Emmiline Jago in 1853, Tasmaina. Emmeline (also known as Emmily) Jago she was born 1837 in St.Veep Parishi Lerrin Cornwall, England. James and Emmiline had 13 children.
My Great Greatfather was Henry Baldock who married Hannah (Anna) Maria Jago they had 9 children.
My Grandfather was Mervyn George Baldock who married Hilda Fanny Jackson they had 6 children, one of there children was Aubrey James Baldock who Married Cleo Jean Rudd-Luke. which is my mother and Father.
Thaning you
Deanne

Hello,

Just saw your web site and the information about Teddy Baldock - he was my great uncle - and your information is correct.
I knew great Uncle Teddy when he was an older man in the 40's and 50's in London. My father, John Baldock owned a stall in Petticoat Lane - the famous London market place, and Uncle Teddy would sometimes stand and watch the stall. From memory he was unemployed and needed a helping hand from time to time, which my father gave.
In our part of the family, there was a saying that "...in 1928 Teddy had the world at his feet, but in 1948 he couldn't afford a pair of shoes to put on them." As I was a schoolboy boxer, Uncle Teddy was sometimes in my corner. He loved the sport of boxing and he would quite often been seen around boxing gyms in the East End of London, where he grew up.
My recollections of him as a schoolboy were of an old man, who was kind and gentle with a very soft voice.
Hope this is useful in adding to the web site.
I live in Australia and would be interested in any information you find
Leon (Lee) Baldock

LEE - Martin Sax is Teddy Baldock's Grandson - he also lives near Teddy's only daughter.
He would like to get in contact with you, I no longer have your e-mail address so please mail him at saxymartin AT hotmail.com.
Cheers
John

Martin Sax has submitted some more Teddy Baldock Info and Pics, thankyou Martin!

Subject: Baldock relatives in USA

John,

My name is Britt Baldock and I live in Loveland, Colorado with my wife and three sons. I am searching for some details about my grandfather, Milton Baldock and his family. He was one three sons born in America circa 1900. One of his brothers was named Oliver. His mother and father were supposedly born in England.
Do you know where I might find some more specific information about them?

Regards,

Britt Baldock

I'm looking for information on an ancestor name Thomas Walter Baldock/Baldick, b Dec 21, 1825, in Nye, Kent, England.
The story below was from my mothers' records and explains the name change. Can you help?
Thank You, Charon Young Jensen The name Baldick was changed from "Baldock" after the family arrived here from England by one of the "Aunts". In the New York State Census of 1850 (As found in the National Archives in Washington, DC) Thomas was listed under the original spelling "Baldock". However, at the time of his death in 1882, the name is shown as "Baldick" and is shown that way on his grave stone. Carl Joseph Baldick passed on the tale of young Thomas leaving his home in Kent to visit the town of Liverpool where he struck up a friendship with a group of sailors. Thomas liked the idea of going to sea and returned home to get his fathers' permission. Before the ship sailed, the sailors and Thomas spent time visiting the English pubs and the last night in port they got the ship's captain drunk and were able to sneak Thomas aboard.
The ship sailed for New York City with Thomas safely aboard. He was shot in the leg during a poker game before the ship docked. Thomas decided to stay in New York state. He is said to have traveled North to Depauville or Lafargeville. In the year 1850, he lived in the town of Lyme in Jefferson County. That information was found in the National Archives where he is listed on page 361 and is recorded on microfilm roll #5l4

Hi John,

Congrats on a great site. I am very impressed.

I am a McCloy descendant living in Australia, although I am not related directly to Elizabeth McCloy that has submitted info. I have something that may be of use to your fellow McCloys. About 10 years ago, I got a letter from a now passed-away McCloy from County Antrim. He listed an entire generation of McCloys that he had in a family bible. The info is the oldest entry in my McCloy line, but could be useful because it covers all the siblings with exact dates of birth.

Anyway, here it is....

Martha McCloy (b. 11/3/1786)
James McCloy (b. 28/6/1784) married Jane Stuart. both died in Ballymoney, cty Antrim.
John McCloy (b. 23/6/1790)
Alexander McCloy (b. 8/9/1792)
Letitia McCloy (b. 13/1/1795)
Henry McCloy (b. 8/5/1798)
Robert McCloy (b. 23/2/1804)

They may have been born in either Scotland or N. Ire, although I know that at least James and his wife both dies in Ballymoney.

Hope this may be of some use to your visitors.

Cameron McCullough

John
I just found the passenger list of the Thomas Arbuthnot as this is ths ship on which Stewart McCloy travelled to Australia arriving in 1849
The passenger list also includes a Mahala Baldock. Does this ring any bells for any one?

Very Interesting, if you go and have a look and do an all round search on all vessels on Baldock and McCloy you will see quite a few migrations, including a few Baldock criminals - I couldn't find any McCloy criminals though...

John:

Nice site; just found it after time away from the hobby. Do you have current info/links on John McCloy, who came to US from County Down, Northern Ireland, in about 1832. His son Samuel (my ggg) was born in County Down (parish unknown) in 1827, acc. to his Civil War discharge papers. His father John was born 1795, location unknown, married Mary Brady, died in Oakdale, IL. They were Covenanters.

Hi, All McCloys!: There are also McCloys living in Madagascar, Wow! just in case all the other McCloys thought we had vanished from the Earth. We challenge all other McCloys to come and visit us on this interesting, extremely poor, dirty, beautiful, smelly and unique island, the 4th biggest in the world and the 4th poorest. Colleen and Ian McCloy. mccloy AT bow.dts.mg

To Elizabeth McCloy: Thanks for all the info so far, you are an asset to the progress of the site. Thanks for the Memoriam and the Family Tree. John.

I am searching for my Grandma's maternal family. Her mother was Anna Jane McCloy born 12/17/1859 in Venice, PA. She died in 8/8/1929, I presume in Indiana. Her parents were Alexander McCloy born in 1791 and died 1871. He married Mary Ann Denny born 1801 and died 1871 with one child: William Henderson McCloy born 1832 died 1898. They had Josiah, Anna Jane (my maternal ggrandma) William Alexander, and Martha Louella. Anyone recognize any of these names, please? Benita Basham. amac49 AT lycos.com

Subject: Baldocks in Kent

Hello,
My Grandmother was Jessica Baldock (before she married my Grandfather, Charles Beale) she was born in Whitstable in June 1918. Her parents were Jane Earl(1893-1981) and John Charles Baldock (1892-1972. We think John was born in Barham, Kent and that his father was a Charles Baldock, we are not too sure about his mother but we think her maiden name may have been Mummery. John's siblings were Henry, Minnie, Bertha, and Edie.

Does any of this sound at all familiar? We seem to have become a bit stuck at this point so any help or links would be gratefully received!

Regards
Amanda

(Please contact me regarding any help on these messages or on the site itself. Cheers, John)

I am trying to locate any info on my Grandfather. His name was Alfred Enos Baldock. DOB unknown but I think he died around 1950. He was married to Daisy ? and had a son called Derek John (my father). I am a bit green at all this family tree searching and really could use some help. I am sure Granddad originally came from Kent. Hope you can help. Steve Baldock.

Are there any McCloys still living on Arran?
Try the phone book! http://www.bt.com/phonenetuk/ there are a few.

To Alan Abell: Thank for the McCloy Bio Sketches, keep in touch. John.

I am a McCloy and have just found your website, I would be grateful if you would add Australia to your McCloy-o-meter. If you would like to know a little about our family history please let me know. I do know that my ancestor, Stewart McCloy, came from Glasgow to Australia in the 1840's. Regards, Elizabeth McCloy.

There are McCloys all over Australia, except I think in Tasmania. To give you an idea, I attach a link to our main telephone directory. If that link doesn't work try the main link. I will send more info this week but the info I have is very limited. Regards, Elizabeth McCloy. PS Where are you on the McCloy-o-meter?

To Elizabeth: I am in England, UK.

To Didi: You missed your last message, but it wasn't life threatening so you'll live. Thanks for being so understanding your whole life, especially with us young rebels and runaways - sometimes I wonder what we would have done without you. Thanks for not judging any of us and always being happy to support us in anything we've done. All my love, John.
Mike would like to second the above message.

To Biggy: Cheers for the McCloy stuff, It's now live (after much typing!). Next time - you type it and send me the .txt file. Cheers, John.

To Donna: A big thankyou to Donna Curry Elrod for her Baldock documents! Nice one, John.

To Jaq: Are you sure you've got time to read this? Lots of Love, John.

Are you from Casey County KY? I sure hope so! This is a very interesting website you have going! I can't wait to see it grow! where are you from. I will definitely send you some Baldock info. From Donna Curry Elrod, Houston.

Just browsed a little further and I think you must be from Down Under? The Baldocks are everywhere then aren't they? From Donna Curry Elrod.

Scary isn't it?!

To Me: John...obviously you are in England and I am in America. The Baldock's I'm researching are not directly linked to your line. I would prefer to not give you family trees because I am writing a book, and I have also had to promise not to let the information onto the net in order to get it. I do feel that all Baldocks or baldock descendents deserve to know their beginnings..thus Baldock, ENG. I do wish you luck with your site and your research. If the English Baldocks are anything like the US Baldocks... its a wonderful family to be associated with.
