The making of Power Pig. Behind the scenes.
That comic was composed of images
found from searching Google's image directory for pigs. I have not
kept a record of all the sources of all the images, but my one
source was basically Google's search technology.
After getting a collection of
suitable images together, I opened them up with Paint Shop Pro and
began work on the comic. I started at the top and worked my way down
(simple, eh?). The title was done with the text tool using an
interior fill blend pattern that I had set up previously. I
colourised 'Power Pig' (the chosen one) at the top also.
The speech bubbles are a handy
feature within Paint Shop Pro. The Shapes tool also provided me with
many comical effects; i.e: circular cutouts, explosion effects,
stars.
I created the comic on one page; all
as one big image. It was around 400KB in size:

I tried chopping the image up and
reducing the colour depth in order to reduce it in size, I found the
loss of quality was too great in ratio to the loss of file size so
ended up keeping the original one and a black and white version
which isn't all that much smaller than the original.
Even though I consider 388KB to be
too large for one image on the Internet, I decided in this instance
it was acceptable. On fast connections it will still be a very fast
loading page.
