Matrix Reloaded Review

I was lucky enough to catch the advance screening of The Matrix Reloaded on the 21st May 2002. Any other Matrix fanatic would agree that this is a film that has to be seen on the big screen!

The opening scene is action-packed, Trinity blasts into the Matrix on a motorbike; displaying graceful acrobatics seconds before causing a mighty explosion. Very cool. This is immediately followed by a healthy fix of bullet-time as Trinity jumps from a window chased by Agents.

All the action is interrupted by an anxious Neo awakening suddenly, something we are all familiar with from the original film.

Neo is adjusting to life in Zion, and has freed many minds in the months between 'The Matrix' and 'The Matrix Reloaded'. But things are getting interesting; the machines are burrowing their way towards humanity's only hope with an army of destructive robots. Morpheus believes Neo's path, as seen by the Oracle, is the path to the salvation of the humans, and the end of the resistance. But many do not believe the prophecies.

We follow the Nebuchadnezzar through the underground maze once again as our freedom fighters battle their way to end the war. Neo demonstrates amazing, physically impossible, stunts as he fights heroically inside the Matrix. Agents are no match for Neo; although Smith has learnt a new technique that Neo is forced to deal with.

The Matrix Reloaded has everything The Matrix lacked; in particular, focusing on the rip-roaring car chase scene. Neo is left stranded while Morpheus and Trinity try to get the Key-Maker to safety, the Key-Maker is a vital part of the Oracle's prophecy. We experience rush after rush of exhilaration through speeding traffic and explosive crashes as the machines try to stop the Key-Maker helping the resistance.

Prepare yourselves for the closest misses and greatest escapes ever seen and stunning fight sequences that will leave your heart pounding.

Neo plays Superman using his 'Spoon Bending' powers in the computerised world of the Matrix, the Wachowski's demonstrate some more of their eye-popping effects as he speeds through the air like a bullet. An inclusion that perhaps should have appeared corny and over the top is pulled off brilliantly by the creators of 'The Matrix'.

The plot takes an incredible twist leaving an air of uncertainty over the events that are to follow. It seems there is much to look forward to and not too long to wait, with 'The Matrix Revolutions' due to appear in early November we can safely hold our breaths until then. Of course, there are also nine Animatrix shorts not to be missed.
