On 7 March 1875 Ravel was born in this house (now known as 27 quai Maurice Ravel) in Ciboure, adjacent to St.Jean-de-Luz, and spent the first three months of his life here, before being taken to Paris.

Although his principal homes were henceforth in or near Paris, he retained an intense attachment to his Basque roots, and from about 1902 onwards he would regularly return to St.Jean-de-Luz for summer holidays.
