According to local legend, if two lovers swim through the Canal D' Amour
together, they will
remain together for the rest of thier lives.

This photo was taken from inside the tunnel facing east.
As you near the exit the water gets deeper which makes walking all the way through impossible. There is a ledge on the left high enough to stand up on if you can manage to climb up. Once up there you realise you are standing on a sort of platform which measures about 8 by 12ft. Many names have been carved into the soft rock over the years. Not all are written in english, which gives you some idea of how many different nationalities visit this attraction. When we were there, a swedish couple swam all the way through together, very romantic, don't you think.

| This view is to the west. As you emerge from the tunnel
the water becomes a lot warmer and the color varies from deep blue through torquoise to aquamarine. A friend described it as, "like looking at a radox bath". Not until you have actually stood in the center of the tunnel, can you appreciate the natural beauty of the place. Stand and wonder at the power and corrosive effect of the sea. amazing! |
