  Lib. Dem. budget initiatives 2001/2

These are things that the Liberal Democrat group in Barnet have insisted be included in this year’s proposed budget (the budget headlines were published as part of the Council-in-committee papers on 7th December and can be obtained from the Town Hall):-

DOORSTEP RECYCLING COLLECTION.   From October 2001 Barnet will collect paper, glass etc., weekly, an upgrade of the current fortnightly paper only collection.  This is at the instigation of the “Street based Services Scrutiny Commission “ chaired by Mill Hill Liberal Democrat Councillor, Wayne Casey.

WEEKEND SKIPS to be placed strategically round the Borough 3 times a year for removal of unwanted items.  This is in addition to the current “deep-cleanse” twice a year.

ANOTHER PARK-KEEPER (added to the 9 in place) for Hendon Park. Childs Hill Park and Basing Hill Park already share a park-keeper.  The playground in Childs Hill Park will be resurfaced. Basing Hill Park has a new playground and multipurpose hard-surface area under construction.

ALL 17 LIBRARIES TO REMAIN OPEN. In addition to Sunday opening at Golders Green and Hendon, Chipping Barnet Library will also open on Sundays from October 2001.  Reservation charges are reduced to £1 per book including postage. Funding is being made available to prevent any reduction in opening hours.

CCTV in Golders Green from 18th December 2000 and on the Granville Road Estate.

GENEROUS SUPPORT FOR  OUR SCHOOLS and EXTRA NURSERY PLACES.

MORE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS for assessment and provision of needs (in partnership with the Health Service).
