SAVE GOLDERS GREEN POST OFFICE CAMPAIGN Update June 14th 2006 We would like to thank all of you who signed the Councillors petition of 1500 names. The Post office are not going ahead with Paper Wishes (good news) but are still intending to franchise (bad news). Details below. Cllr Monroe Palmer reports: In my conversations with Melanie Corfield Head of External Relations of Royal Mail she confirms that the deal with Paper Wishes has fallen through. However, she also confirms, unfortunately, that it is still their aim to franchise out Golders Green Post Office. In the meantime they will continue in present premises presumably by an extension of the lease. The term of 2 years which has been mentioned by somebody is not unfortunately 'guaranteed' if they find a franchisee. To say 'not in the pipeline' is a mite misleading as it means that they have failed to identify anyone acceptable to take on the franchise. They are still looking. In my view they will find this difficult in Golders Green. They will probably, bearing in mind their commitment to franchising, look to entice a business willing to take over an empty premises and incorporate the Post Office in that venture. We won the battle but not yet the 'war'. We will fight on. HENDON LIBRARY BABY RHYME TIME & CHILDS HILL STORYTIME The latest library hit is the singing rhyme session for the under two’s. Cllr Susette Palmer says, “I took my 9 month old grandchildren and they were enthralled.” Hendon now has two sessions on Friday morning. Childs Hill has storytime for the under 5’s on Tuesday at 11.30. |
