MON 7TH AUGUST
High-flying Dundee could be forced to rethink their ticketing policy for major matches after the big increase in the number of home fans at Dens on Saturday.
In all, 7152 turned up to see manager Ivano Bonetti’s first home game in charge and, of that number, just over 6000 were there to support the Dark Blues.
They saw an exhilarating 3-0 home win and, if that form continues, numbers are expected to swell even further.
If that happens, the club will make sure extra space is reserved for their own fans.
"In the past we have given the south enclosure over to away fans when the likes of the Old Firm come to Dens Park, but if we are getting enough of our own supporters to fill it, we will keep it as a Dundee area," said Dens Park chairman Jimmy Marr.
"We would even be willing to look at the possibility of splitting the Bob Shankly stand when teams with smaller supports visit.
"However, that is something we would need to discuss with the authorities to see if it would be possible."
In the three years since the chairman and his brother Peter bought Dundee, the home support has doubled - and they remain confident more will follow if the early-season success continued.
"We have always believed the fans were out there and would come if they got entertaining football. It is early days yet, but if the team keeps playing like it did on Saturday, we’re sure the crowds will continue to grow."
On the team front, man-of-the-match Georgi Nemsadze and Argentinian Fabian Caballero both took knocks and were on the treatment table today.
"We do not think it is anything serious, but we will give them another day to see how they are," said boss Ivano Bonetti.
Tickets for the August 15 derby go on sale today at the usual outlets.
MON 7TH AUGUST
Striker Fabian Caballero claimed he wants Dundee to go all the way and to win the Premier title at the end of the season.
And after two excellent wins, why not? The player was on a high following another impressive display in front of his home support, and he said: "Since I stared playing, my aim has been to win. I came here to Scotland because I want this side to be the Champions of Scotland. From what I've seen, the Bonetti brothers are good at their job and are great to work for. Playing with Juan Sara, another Argentinean, up front helps us both. He comes from the same background and knows the same football as me. Tactically we are similar and I think we play well together as partners."
MON 7TH AUGUST
Manager Ivano Bonetti claimed there's more to come from Georgian midfielder Nemsadze after an impressing performance against Dunfermline.
The player was hailed as a genius by the Dens support who turned up in numbers for Saturday's first home tie under the new management team at Dens Park, and afterwards, manager Bonetti claimed: "I know Giorgi well and I know he can do better than that. He did create a lot of danger but he can do more. I wasn't happy with the first half show but we played well in the second half. We didn't concede many chances to the other side. But overall I am a happy man."
Bonetti will be available to select himself following his one game ban for this weekend's match against Hibs at Easter Road.
SAT 5TH AUGUST
Former Dundee defender Robbie Raeside has joined Greenock Morton on a two-year contract.
Raeside makes the move after his previous side Shelbourne crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers in the last week, leaving the player with no further interest worth pursuing at the Irish club.
He had previously signed for them on a month's trial
FRI 4TH AUGUST
Nottingham Forest have joined the race to sign the out-of-favour Steve Boyack.
Dundee United and St. Johnstone were in a two-horse race for his signature, but English First Division Forest are now also closely tracking the transfer-listed 23-year-old.
Boyack is set to have a trial at the City Ground, and if he impresses boss David Platt, the player may get the opportunity to play in England.
He is so far out of the picture at Dens this season he doesn't even have a squad number.
THU 3RD AUGUST
St Johnstone and Dundee United are both after the services of transfer-listed Steven Boyack.
Arab boss Paul Sturrock refused to comment on his £125,000 bid on his return from Europe with chairman Jim McLean, but Saints boss Sandy Clark said he was surprised at the amount of cash wanted by the club for a player who has just 10 months of his contract remaining.
As Rangers will command 25% of any ongoing sale for the player, and Dundee boss Ivan Bonetti said he didn't care who signed him - even if the went just across the road to Tannadice. Hhoever comes up with the highest bid gets him, simpole as that.
The player has had a brief trial down south with Bolton but failed to impress.
THU 3RD AUGUST
Hugh Robertson is set to be given a shock recall by manager Ivano Bonetti for Saturday's match against Dunfermline.
Just two weeks ago the player was told he had no future at Dens Park, but with Bonetti automatically suspended for the match following his dismissal against Motherwell last weekend, Robertson is the obvious player to replace him as Shaun McSkimming is out with a knee injury.
Ivano said: "The fact he's up for sale is not a big problem. I won't decide what to do until
the morning of the game until we have a closer look at McSkimming. We expect a huge crowd but we still have a lot of work to do before we are a good side, but we're going in the right direction."
THU 3RD AUGUST
Airdrie were this morning linked with a move for Dundee's former Celtic player Barry Elliot who could be available for transfer.
There has been a suggestion that Archibald has looked after the player as his agent, although we're not clear on how that would be viewed by the SFL. It all depends on whether Archibald has given up that side of a very lucrative business. Hugh Robertson has also attracted several enquiries with nothing substantial yet, as has Steve Boyack, with several clubs in Scotland after him. Dundee have rejected all offers made so far as Rangers are entitled to a 25 per cent fee of any sale. Meanwhile,
defender Craig Ireland will undergo surgery to see the extent of his knee problem, and Shaun McSkimming is a doubt for Saturday's match against Dunfermline.
WED 2ND AUGUST
He won rave reviews for his debut at Motherwell last week, but Juan Sara, one half of Dundee’s new Argentinian strikeforce, will not be happy until he’s started hitting the back of the net.
And the 23-year-old wants to do that when Dunfermline visit Dens Park tomorrow for the new-look Dark Blues’ eagerly-awaited first home game of the season.
Sara’s selfless work at Fir Park saw him get special mention from manager Ivano Bonetti, but he feels he has much more to offer.
"I am glad the manager thought I played well, but I was not happy. I like to help the team by working hard, but I am a striker and want to score," he said.
"I know I can player better and I would like to do that against Dunfermline. The game is at our house, and it is important we win games there."
Having come from Paraguay and a year with leading outfit Cerro Porteno, Sara has turned out in front of crowds as big as 60,000 in the Copa Libertadores - South America’s Champions League.
Although there were far fewer at Motherwell, he was still impressed by the 2000 Dundee supporters.
"Many of our fans travelled to Motherwell and it was nice for us. They made a lot of noise and if we have 6000 who can do the same tomorrow, they will give much help to the team."
In return for their support, Sara believes the fans will get an entertaining, but most importantly, winning team under the management of Ivano and Dario Bonetti. He also believes they’ll improve him.
"I have come to Dundee because of them and I have liked working with them. They can do big things for Dundee and me. One day I would like to play in a big league in Europe, but first I want to score many goals for Dundee."
He is likely to be handed the chance to do that tomorrow, and the only expected change will come on the left of midfield where a replacement has to be found for the suspended player-boss. Shaun McSkimming hasn’t recovered from a knee problem, so it looks like Hugh Robertson will play.
After their opening draw with Aberdeen, the Pars are expected to hand a debut to Barry Nicholson. Centre-half Justin Skinner has a groin injury but is expected to be fit.
The race to sign another of Dundee’s transfer-listed men, Steven Boyack, is hotting up.
St Johnstone boss Sandy Clark has made an inquiry, Dundee United have made a bid, and Bolton are keeping tabs on things.
However, the situation took another twist today as Nottingham Forest joined the interested parties, and it is understood the English First Division side have stolen a march on their rivals by fixing up a trial period for Boyack early next week.
WED 2ND AUGUST
The eagerly awaited Official video history of Dundee FC which features the JMB Video Allstars is on sale from Friday at the following outlets, DFC shop in Bobby Cox stand, D&G Newsagents, Clepington Road Dundee, West Port Bar, Kettledrum Bar, Ballinard Hotel, Ferrari's Bar, Centenary Bar and The High Corner Bar. This Saturday the shop in the Bobby Cox Stand will remain open after the match with Dunfermline for the supporters from the main stand and the south enclosure.
WED 2ND AUGUST
Dens Park was again the centre of transfer speculation today, but this time it appeared a departure was on the cards.
The race to land Dundee’s transfer-listed midfielder Steven Boyack is hotting up, with interest coming from very near and far.
It is understood the Dark Blues’ Tannadice Street neighbours Dundee United have made a bid of over £100,000 for the ex-Ranger.
That’s been knocked back by Dundee, who want at least £250,000, and who know they stand a chance of getting it from elsewhere.
There has been a string of inquiries about Boyack, with strong interest also coming from England. It is understood Boyack travelled south earlier this week to play as a trialist for Bolton in a reserve friendly against non-league Leigh.
The English First Division outfit’s manager, Sam Allardyce, only returned from a club tour to America early on Monday, but watched Boyack in action.
Now Dundee are waiting to find out if that will be followed up with a bid. Having sold Icelandic international Eidur Gudjohnsen to Chelsea for £4 million, Bolton could easily afford the asking price for the former Under-21 international.
It is, however, news of a bid from Tannadice that will spark most discussion among the fans.
United boss Paul Sturrock is in the market for attacking players and knows Boyack fits the bill.
As well as seeing Boyack play some of his best football in derbies over the last two seasons, he is a player the Tangerines manager knows well.
During his time as St Johnstone manager, Zippy tried to sign him from Rangers but failed in that bid.
TUE 1ST AUGUST
Jocky Scott has failed in an attempt to take Lee Wilkie south of the border on loan.
Jocky, now in charge at Notts County, is looking to strengthen his defence and approached Dens Park officials asking if they would lend him under 21 ace Wilkie, whose progress is being monitored by Premiership big guns Leeds United.
However, the answer was NO.
One who could be leaving Dens shortly is transfer listed former Celtic forward Barry Elliot.
He is a target for First Division Airdrie, now in the control of Steve Archibald, the player’s agent.
A further two of the eight members of the playing staff deemed surplus to requirements by player/manager Ivano Bonetti have been attracting attention.
Midfielder Steven Boyack has been the subject of a handful of approaches, from north and south of the border, although none of the figures mentioned to Dundee, who are due Rangers a 25% cut of any fee received for Boyack, have tempted the club into doing a deal.
Also Hugh Robertson has attracted one inquiry.
MON 31ST JULY
Defender Craig Ireland is set for an exploratory operation on his knee, while a knee injury has placed a doubt over Shaun McSkimming’s availability to replace the suspended Bonetti against Dunfermline this weekend.
MON 31ST JULY
Reports in Italy claimed Verona defender Luigi Appolloni was offered to Dundee boss Ivano Bonetti today.
The former Parma defender is 32-years-of-age, but according to the Dens Park club, he's not wanted. Manager Ivano Bonetti said this morning that he has never spoken to the player and wasn't even aware he was available on a free. But maybe now that knowledge has been passed onto him, he will change his mind.
SUN 30TH JULY
Ivan Bonetti claimed that the trio of strikers at his disposal would scare any defence in the SPL this season following their impressive showing against Motherwell.
The trio of Fabien Caballero, Juan Sara and Willie Falconer certainly looked impressive, with the boss saying: "There were so many things that impressed me about their performance. The pace, the movement and the way we worked so hard to help the rest of the team was so excellent. They might not have scored on Saturday, but if they continue to play like that, goals will come. Juan hit the post twice, Fabian had a goal disallowed, and when I went off, we still looked dangerous." There was no comment on the rumour Dundee had been offered Jim Hamilton as part-exchange for Steven Boyack.
However given that Hamilton is not anywhere near the quality of player being signed at Dens, as well as being an overweight has been and gone off the rails since he left Dundee for Hearts, It would appear unlikely.
TUE 1ST AUGUST
Walter Del Rio arrived back at Dens on a week's trial yesterday and could become Ivano Bonetti's seventh summer signing.
The Buenos Aires-born right-back spent a short spell at Crystal Palace last year but was freed when the club went into receivership.
Argentine agents who brokered his move to Palace are facing a FIFA probe after taking a pounds 187,500 loan fee from the London club even though del Rio was a free agent.
It's alleged Palace were given the impression the player was still contracted to Boca Juniors.
The Argentine club later confirmed they had no contact with Palace concerning del Rio and that they had not received a fee.
The player made only one top- team appearance for the Eagles but was cleared of any wrong doing over the transfer.
Bonetti is also considering a move for 20-year-old Sligo Rovers midfielder Conor O'Grady who is on trial.
The Italian will lead his side in the SPL for the first time when they take on Motherwell at Fir Park today.
He's had a rough ride since agreeing to take over from Jocky Scott in May.
Some have questioned his managerial credentials and accused him of stabbing Scott in the back.
Others have scoffed at his signings - claiming he's done little more than employ old pals on huge salaries.
Former Serie A star Marco de Marchi is one of the imports accused of coming to Scotland with less than honourable intentions.
But he claims they're all committed to getting Dundee into Europe for the first time in a generation.
He said: "I did not come here to have a bit of fun with my friends. None of us did. We all want to help Dundee progress and become one of the top clubs in Scottish football.
"It's a big gamble for all of us and for the club but it's not about seeing out a three-year contract - we want to build something for the future. I can't say it's always going to be easy. There will be times in the season when things get difficult but I'm prepared for that.
"Sure, I've played for some big clubs in the past but I'm a Dundee player now. Doing well and working hard for the club and the supporters is what is important.
"The fans are all excited about the new start and so are the players but we can't get caught up in that. It will take time for us to gel together so we don't want to be getting carried away before the first ball has been kicked."
The former Vitesse Arnhem star is itching to get his first taste of Premier League football.
He said: "We have all been working very hard during the pre-season and everyone is in good condition. The training camp in Italy was very useful.
"We will be trying to do our best to have a good season and I'm sure that will happen if we stick together."
Keeper Rab Douglas, skipper Barry Smith and defender Steven Tweed are expected to be the only Scots in the Dark Blues starting line up.
SAT 29TH JULY
Pat Nevin will renew an old acquaintance with Dundee player/manager Ivano Bonetti as he welcomes the DEE'S to Fir Park.
Nevin, now Motherwell's full-time chief executive, was a team-mate of the Italian's at Tranmere three years ago and if he had listened to the midfielder then, neither would be in Scotland today.
The former Scotland winger revealed last night that he and the Dens boss came ascloseasthis to buying Bonetti's old club Grimsby Town together before the lure of home drew Nevin back north.
He said: "Ivano is a brilliant player and he was a God-like figure in Grimsby. He joined us after the incident with their manager Brian Laws but he always retained an affection for the club.
"It reached the stage where he became determined to buy them over and he asked me to help him run it.
"He went far down the line, arranging all the financial backing he needed from various businesses and I was very keen to become involved with him.
"However, you never know what's round the corner. Just when it seemed likely to happen, Kilmarnock manager Bobby Williamson came in for me.
"I'd always wanted to play at the top level in Scotland and had planned to live here once my footballing career was over, so the Grimsby deal fell through."
Now Nevin, released as a player by Billy Davies at the end of last season, is hoping the Italian won't come back to haunt him.
He added: "Ivano had so much skill when I played with him and if he has any of that left he'll be a sensation up here.
"Most people are pessimistic about his chances of doing well at Dens Park but I'm not one of them. One thing in his favour is that he has better contacts than anyone I've ever met in the game.
"His brother Dario used to organise teams full of out-of-contract players from Serie A whenever AC or Inter Milan, for example, wanted a bounce game.
"It allowed the big clubs to keep their fringe players sharp and, at the same time, it put the free agents in the shop window.
"That means the Bonettis have access not just to Italian talent but Argentinians, Africans and Yugoslavs too.
"I know that some of the people he's brought to Dundee are top quality even if they're not exactly household names. Then again, I always expected Ivano to become a player in the wider sense."
Bonetti will come up against another former Prenton Park team-mate today in the shape of Ged Brannan. And the midfielder will be having words of warning with keeper Andy Goram about the Italian's prowess with a dead ball.
Brannan said: "It will be nice to see Ivano and it will be interesting if he's got all his team playing like him because he's fantastic on the ball and going forward.
"He's got great vision, some of his skills are unbelievable and it's obvious he's been a fantastic player in his time.
"I hope he plays as I would like to line up against him.
"At training he was always bending the ball into the top corner from free-kicks.
"He also tries the chip all the time so I'll have to tell the Goalie to stay on his line.
"I don't know whether he, or all the foreigners he has signed, will last in the winter but we'll see what happens.
"To be honest I didn't think he would make a manger when he was a player.
"I knew he wanted to go into management although I couldn't see it myself."
Brannan has targets of his own to worry about after losing out to Hearts last season in the chase for a UEFA place down the SPL stretch.
He added: "We were disappointed last season because we never made the UEFA Cup.
"But hopefully we can carry our form forward to this year and make it into Europe.
"Dundee were our bogey side last season. They always seemed to beat us and we never played well against them.
"This year they are a new side and we don't know what we are going to be up against."
FRI 28TH JULY
In the weeks since he controversially took over as manager, there has been a lot of speculation as to how Ivano Bonetti’s new-look Dark Blues will perform in the SPL.
As well as signing on as a player himself, Ivano has brought in five other foreign players - Georgian Georgi Nemsadze, Italians Marco di Marchi and Marcello Marrocco and Argentinian pair Fabian Caballero and Juan Sara.
Much depends on how they adapt to the Premier League and, having worked with them day in, day out for the past month, Spaniard Javier Artero, who achieved that after his arrival last season, believes they can do well.
"They are all very good players, who have played outside their home countries before and that is very important," said the midfielder.
"As well as Spain, I have been to Argentina and now Scotland. I found it much easier to settle here than in Argentina, and, hopefully, the others will like it as much as I have."
Remembering his own problems in South America, where he failed to adapt during a brief spell at San Lorenzo, the one-time Real Madrid player does strike a note of caution.
"Coming to live in a new country is a very personal thing. I like it here, but did not enjoy the different culture in Argentina and some people may take longer than others to get used to living in Scotland."
Out on the pitch, he believes all the new men have the ability to become instant favourites with the Dundee fans.
"On the park the game here is faster, but people like to talk too much about the differences between here and other countries."
"Many more things are the same than are different and it is football. When we have the ball we try to score and when the other team has the ball we try to stop them."
With so many new faces in the side, Dundee have faced a race against time to be ready for the kick off. Artero believes they now are.
"We have worked very hard in training here and during the training camp in Italy and now we are looking forward to starting. "
"We want to get to Motherwell and we want to start with a win."
FRI 28TH JULY
Ivano Bonetti revealed an eve-of-season boost with the news that Patrizio Billio had agreed to extend his contract by another two years - his current deal had 12 months to go.
"He should sign the contract today and that is good news. If you want to build something you must know you have good players and that you have them for the long-term future," said Ivano.
FRI 28TH JULY
Ivano has revealed a second trialist has been training at Dens this week, although he is not an entirely unfamiliar face.
He is Argentinian defender Walter del Rio, who played a game for the U/21s last term.
"He has been back in Argentina but has come here again so we can have a close look at him," explained Ivano.
Another link is that he was at Crystal Palace at the same time as Patrizio Billio and Dario Magri.
THU 27TH JULY
Dundee boss Ivano Bonetti has confirmed Barry Smith will lead the team out when their SPL campaign gets under way at Motherwell on Saturday.
Experienced Italian centre-half Marco Di Marchi had been expected to be given for job, but Ivano’s attitude appears to be if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Throughout the pre-season he has been highly impressed by Smith’s attitude and performances, so the ex-Celt will start his fifth season as Dark Blues skipper.
"Anything we have asked him to do in training, he has picked up and done the way we want first time. He is a very good player, a nice person and a captain, and he will be my captain," said Ivano.
THU 27TH JULY
Dundee have handed a trial to Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Conor O’Grady. The Sligo Rovers midfielder has been keen to move this side of the Irish Sea for some time. Ivano Bonetti was tipped off about the player by ex Dark Blue player and former Sligo manager Jim McInally.
THU 27TH JULY
The club shop and ticket office in Commercial Street will close for the last time at 1 pm tomorrow. From Monday, there will be a temporary ticket office in the main foyer at Dens until a new purpose-built facility is opened towards the end of next month.
Until that happens, telephone enquiries concerning tickets will be to the main switchboard (889966).
WED 26TH JULY
Nicky Banger and Frank van Eijs have become the latest players to learn they are not in Ivano Bonetti’s plans for the new look Dee's.
The pair were placed on the transfer list following a meeting between the new manager and the club commerical director Jim Connor.
Offers have already been invited for Steven Boyack, Barry Elliot, Willie Miller, Hugh Robertson and Lee Sharpe.
And Bonetti last night took the chance to reiterate what he feels is the routineness of the process, saying, "There are no personal problems involved here or anything like that-it is just what happens at football clubs."
"I have had a good chance to assess the players here and know in my mind which way I want to go with things in the challenge that lies ahead for us."
"The people who have been put on the transfer list are there simply because I don’t see them playing a part in my plans,"
"It is no reflection on them as footballers and I hope we manage to find them all new clubs who can offer them a regular game because that would be for the best for everybody."
"Footballers are always happiest when they are playing, it is only natural."
Banger struggled through injury and disciplinary problems, while Van Ejis was in and out of the side.
But Dundee appear to be sensitive about the subject regarding the inclusion of Boyack in the clear-out.
Boyack, who has been capped by Scotland at all bar first-team level, has his supporters and the club yesterday stressed that putting him up for sale was very much a business move.
"Steven is a player of outstanding ability and during his time here his commitment to the club has never been in doubt," said chief executive Peter Marr.
"The decision to place him on the transfer list was taken in the knowledge that he would have almost certainly moved on for nothing in a year’s time (his contract is due to expire at the end of next season), and it was taken by the manager with the long-term future of this club in mind."
TUE 25TH JULY
Juan Sara was recruited earlier this month in a double deal with Fabian Caballero, his arrival was overshadowed by the story of how Dundee beat off competition from both Italian Serie A outfit Bari and Porto of Portugal to secure his countryman’s signature.
An unspectacular career to date didn’t help. At 24 years old, Sara lacks both the international pedigree of 50 times capped Georgian skipper Georgi Nemsadze and the achievements of Marco de Marchi, a UEFA Cup winner with Juventus in 1993.
And while he had scored goals in Paraguay, his ranking as the country’s third top scorer this season was still two behind top dog Caballero.
All that though meant nothing to Ivano Bonetti, who took to the aggressive, hungry style of the player’s game the minute he saw it and knew he wanted him to be part of what he was trying to build with Dundee.
One and a half games and two goals later, he has seen nothing to change his mind.
A scoring substitute against Raith Rovers a week ago today, Sara was promoted to the starting line up for the challenge game at Grimsby’s Blundell Park on Friday night and responded in explosive style.
Hustling the ball off Town defender Paul Groves, he showed admirable composure to curl the ball into the net from 18 yards out.
"It was a beautiful goal and one which showed what the boy is capable of," said Bonetti who enjoyed an emotional return to his former club, of which an entertaining 2-2 draw was the highlight.
"He is tall and strong and has good ability as well as an awareness of what is going on all around him."
"Although he is still a young player, he has first team experience at a decent level from his time in Paraguay and I am sure he can do well in Scotland."
"Fabian’s signing was the subject of a lot of interest but I said at the time that I was pleased to tie up the double signing because it meant we would have three good strikers (Caballero, Falconer and Sara) as well as boys of really good potential such as Steven Milne and Michael Yates."
"I am sure Juan will get even better the more accustomed he becomes to the Scottish game and I am excited about what he can do with Dundee."
While the hundreds of Dark Blues fans who made the 700-mile round trip to Grimsby to watch Bonetti’s new look side were rewarded with an excellent view of Sara’s first half score, they had to strain their eyes to see Nemsadze’s amazing solo effort at the other end after the break.
Twisting one way then the other, the Georgian left a succession of defenders in his slipstream before striking the ball into the net.
MON 24TH JULY
Ivano Bonetti today admitted that he is still not sure what the best striking partnership will be for next season, although Caballero and Falconer are favourites.
The main problem comes in the shape of Argentinean Juan Sara, who looks as impressive if not more so than Caballero who has grabbed the initial headlines.
Bonetti said after the 2-2 draw with Grimsby on Saturday: "Sara's goal against Grimsby was a beautiful goal and on which showed what he is capable of. He is strong and tall and has good ability and awareness of what is going on around him. He's still a young player but he has played at a decent level in Paraguay and he'll do well in Scotland."
SUN 23RD JULY
Willie Miller, who was put on the transfer list last week, is attracting the attention of Stockport County.
Miller is a steady professional with a little bit of passion about his play that can sometimes lead to unnecessary bookings.
It is understand the club won't be difficult to deal with as they try to get players who won't be used off the wage bill.
SAT 22ND JULY
Willie Miller is being linked to Stockport County following Ivano Bonetti's decisionto place him on the transfer list.
Miller is now 30, however he may not favour a move to England at this stage in his career. It is now decision time for the veteran full back.
FRI 21TH JULY
Zippy Sturrock has remained tight-lipped over speculation Steven Boyack may be on his way to Tannadice.
Boyack, transfer-listed by Ivano Bonetti, was tipped by many to make a controversial move across the city, but Sturrock declined to comment on the matter.
He is completely out of favour at Dens Park and was not included in the squad that left for Grimsby yesterday, which fuels speculation that there is more to him being transfer listed than is being admitted.
THU 20TH JULY
Joining Steve Boyack on the way out of Dens last night were Barry Elliot, Hugh Robertson and Willie Miller.
All quality players and certainly men who could have done a job for the Bonetti brothers. But now they have been put on the transfer list and clubs are being asked to make Dundee an offer for all of them.
It was commercial director Jim Connor who broke the news to the players after calling them to a meeting in his office.
THU 20TH JULY
Dundee midfielder Steven Boyack has been put up for sale by Ivano Bonetti and that has alerted Arab boss Zippy Sturrock.
The player would cost a fee and that amount is yet to be decided,(rumoured to be £250,000) but the player himself refused to rule out a move across the road to Tannadice, claiming last night he''ll go only where he''s wanted.
THU 20TH JULY
Ivano Bonetti will play in the SPL next season despite reservations from some of the players that he is not ready.
He looked ring rusty against Raith Rovers the other night at Starks Park despite showing some superb touches plus a fierce shot, but his fitness isn't as good as it could be for the position he plays.
Other midfielders are going to have to do a lot more running to cover for their coach should he continue his plans, but with Dundee playing a back four with a front sweeper, that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
WED 19TH JULY
Leeds United today confirmed Dundee defender Lee Wilkie was one player they are interested in but said they were not ready to make a bid.
He has all that it takes to play at the highest level and has impressed many managers with his performances last term, but with several new signings in place under new boss Ivano Bonetti, it looks increasingly likely he will start the season on the bench.
TUE 18TH JULY
Ivano Bonetti is set to continue his playing for Dundee despite a lack of first team action in recent years.
Many of the Scottish players at Dens Park have reportedly said they were a little unhappy at the prospect of Bonetti continue to play his midfield role as he has in pre-season games as they feel he a little short of pace.
He is, but he looks such a quality player it's hard to agree with their fears. Against Raith Rovers the other night, his quality shone through although he was easily knock over in hard tackles, but his passing was superb as was his vision, and he looks like he has a fierce shot at set pieces.
SAT 15TH JULY
Lee Wilkie is wanted by Leeds United according to morning reports.
Leeds are also chasing Celtic target Joos Valgaeren of FC Roda, but see Wilkie as one for the future.
He's going to be playing a lot of games in the under 21's this season if pre-season is anything to go by, and that could influence his decision about his future if an offer is received by the club.
He's signed a one-year extension at Dens Park, but said already this week the arrival of Marcho di Marchi to play alongside Steve Tweed makes his position look shaky as far as regular first team games are concerned.
FRI 14TH JULY
Jamie Langfield was last night tipped to join the list of top-flight Scottish keepers by the clubs goalkeeping coach Billy Thomson, who was talking at the clubs training camp in the Italian Alps.
Langfield's first-team chances have been restricted up to now by the form of Scotland squad member Rab Douglas, but he is not letting that get him down and has shown his determination to improve his game during the time spent at training camp in Italy.
Now Jamie, is poised to make a strong challenge to become the first-choice keeper.
Thomson said: "Jamie is basically a first-team keeper in waiting and he has kept Robert on his toes.
"If Robert were to lose form or get injured, Jamie would be an outstanding deputy.
"He is as good as anyone his age in the country and I predict a very bright future for him."
Thomson is also impressed by Jamies ability to own up to mistakes and try to learn from them. "Jamie is self-critical and that's no bad thing. He and I often talk things through when he highlights a problem."

Argentinians Fabian Caballero (22) and Juan Sara (24), both currently playing for clubs in Paraguay, were last night in talks with Ivano Bonetti at the club’s training camp high in the Italian Alps.
"Things are at a a very early stage," Bonetti stressed, "but we are very excited because these are fantastic players we are talking about."
"Though their season is not at that advanced stage, Caballero has scored 13 goals for his club Sol de America this season while Sara has got six for Serro Portino. They are among the top scorers in the country, " (Caballero is first and Sara is third).
"They are young boys who have both been capped at representative levels and have good reputations."
"As things stand we haven’t even talked money yet but obviously we will have to pay their clubs something by way of compensation if we are successful."
"It has taken a lot of work just to get them here but it will all be worth it if we can persuade them to join us."
If Caballero does join Dundee it will be his second taste of British football, as he spent half a season on loan to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
A new striker has been a priority for Ivano and if he does manage to land his targets it will complete an impressive clean sweep with Italians Marco de Marchi and Marcello Morrocco already recruited to strengthen the defence, the Georgian international Georgi Nemsadze and the Spaniard Javier Artero brought in to add to the midfield.
Dundee have opened negotiations with two of South America’s top young strikers.
"I have been speaking for a long time about bringing in strikers of the highest quality to fill a need we have at the club. These are those players."
FRI 14TH JULY
Michael Yates has been boosted with the news that his back injury is not as serious as first feared, reporting that it hasgreatly improved.
Should it continue at the same rate, it is highly unlikely he will need the operation that was feared would be necessary.
"I’m not sure it’s going to be okay yet but things are certainly looking much more hopeful for me" said Yates.
"It would be brilliant if it turns out to be nothing worse than a strain, for missing the final 10 weeks of last season (spine problem) was incredibly frustrating for me."
FRI 14TH JULY
Dundee contract rebel John Elliot is trying out with troubled Airdrie, at the invitation of Steve Archibald. Elliot turned down a 1 year extension to his contract a few weeks ago. Should he sign for the Diamonds he would boost the squad to 3, Dundee would also be entitled to a fee as he is under 24.
FRI 14TH JULY
Paul Clark, who was released from Dens Park at the end of last term is also on trial with Archibald.
SUN 9TH JULY
Dundee play their first match under the new management when they take on Italian lower division opposition, Polisportina San Guiseppe, at the Borno stadium tonight. Ivano Bonetti plans to substitute the entire team at half time to allow him to see the whole squad in action. Speaking about the match Ivano said "The big test will come in time, but for now I need to assess the players I have and work on tactics. This and the two other games we hope to arrange against teams of an equivalent standard while we are here, will allow me to do this. It is an exciting time for myself and the other coaches because you can only do so much in training. Sooner or later you have to try to put it all together on the pitch."
SUN 9TH JULY
News of prices for the visit to Blundell Park comes courtesy of the official Grimsby Town web site www.gtfc.co.uk. The match is on Friday, July 21st with a 7.30 kick off. The game which will raise money for two local charities the Fisherman's Memorial Fund and St Andrews Children's Hospice Appeal. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for concessions with Juniors going free if accompanied by a full paying adult.
SAT 8TH JULY
Ivano Bonetti has started talks with an international-class striker and hopes to have a deal completed by the time the Dark Blues leave their pre-season training camp a week tomorrow.
Ivano is anxious to fill the void left by the departures of on-loan Francisco Luna and James Grady and has had his contacts scouring the world markets for an experienced goalscorer capable of partnering Willie Falconer up front and helping bring on youngsters Steven Milne and Michael Yates.
Earlier this week he commented that finding such a forward before the start of the season could prove impossible, a situation which would force him to turn instead to Chelsea and old friend Gianluca Vialli to ask for a player on loan.
Now it looks as if that won’t be necessary.
"I have an individual in mind for the position and have been talking to him over the last few days," Bonetti revealed.
"He is of the quality we are looking for but there is still work to be done for in these situations you have to offer contracts and then wait to see if they are agreeable to the player you want to sign.
"While that is still the case, I do not want to name him but I would hope that we will be able to get everything sorted out before we return home."
Bonetti has been a busy man in Borno for he has also contacted an additional three players he knows well to advise them he might soon be in touch to offer them the chance to come to Scotland.
"They are, as you say, on stand-by for I still do not know exactly what our needs are for the coming season," he said.
"I will make up my mind based on what I see from the players in the squad here over the next week then act, or not, as the case may be.
"The important thing is that these people are aware of our interest, which will make things much easier if we do indeed go back to them."
The new boss has already proved his readiness to make signings, with Marco De Marchi, Georgi Nemsadze and Marcello Marrocco all brought in soon after his appointment, but his clear satisfaction at the way the training camp is progressing would suggest there won’t be too many other changes to come.
"We are definitely getting there," he said.
"It takes time for people to adjust to new ideas and new management but there is a great willing- ness to learn among the squad.
"Although we have several different nationalities among us, communication is improving all the time, which makes a huge difference.
"One of the main reasons I chose to take the boys away was so that we could all get to know one another through working closely together over a sustained period of time and that has been happening."
What, of course, matters most is how the new set up will fare in the Scottish game with results, as always, the criteria by which players and coaches alike will be judged.
The first real hint should come tomorrow night when Dundee are scheduled to tackle Italian fourth division side Pavia at the Borno Stadium.
A semi-professional outfit, Pavia should not be in the Dark Blues’ class but as a local team they will at least have the experience of being used to playing at altitude.
Bonetti is set to start with his strongest side and then experiment as the game continues, an arrangement which could see a first outing for the all-continental midfield of Javier Artero, Pat Billio, Georgi Nemsadze and the manager himself.
Up front Steven Milne, last season’s third division player of the year while on loan at Forfar, is likely to feature at some stage after impressing in the last few work-outs.
FRI 7TH JULY
Dundee's season ticket sales for the new campaign are set to top the 4000 mark for the first time in 15 years.
The club slashed the price of the tickets in a bid to boost sales but the cut-price tickets will only be available from Dundee Direct until tomorrow.
A spokesman said: "The response has been superb and it vindicates the club's determination to make football affordable for all the family."
FRI 7TH JULY
Steven Milne reckons he can solve Ivano Bonetti's striking problem.
Savo was farmed to Third Division Forfar last season in order to gain some experience and to toughen him up a little.
He bagged 19 goals as the Loons clinched promotion and won the division's Player of the Year Award.
He has shown up well at Dundee's training camp in Borno, Italy, and said: "Eddie Annand, James Grady and Francisco Luna have moved on and I'm determined to make an impression in the SPL."
FRI 7TH JULY
DUNDEE’S Steven Boyack believes the coming season will be the most important of his whole career. Soon to be 24, he is due to come to the end of his contract next summer and knows his future depends on what he produces on the pitch. And that at a time when he faces the fiercest of competition for his first-team place, with the arrivals of Georgi Nemsadze, Javier Artero and the new player-manager Ivano Bonetti himself having squeezed the Dark Blues’ midfield tighter than a drum. Yet as he faces up to the challenge ahead, he is optimistic about what lies in front of him and determined to bury once and for all, hurtful perceptions of him as the ‘steal of the season’ turned chronic under-achiever. "I think it is time to put the record straight on my move from Rangers to Dundee," said Boyack. "Although the fee was £30,000 the only reason it was that and not £200,000 was because of a personal favour I received from Ibrox chairman David Murray. "I had been around Rangers since I was a boy and, though I had been capped by Scotland at every level bar the full side, I was clearly never going to break through to the first team. "Playing means everything to me so, around a year and a half ago, I went and pleaded for the fee to be slashed, arguing that if they did not I would sit out what remained of my contract then leave for nothing. "They could have easily have just said ‘go ahead’ but the chairman took pity on me and said, ‘OK, you go and out find yourself a club and we will let you go for a nominal fee.’ I found myself a buyer in Dundee and Rangers lived up to their word, for which I will always be indebted to David Murray." Boyack’s arrival at Dens and his instant promotion to first-team football co-incided with a winning streak, for which he was to be hailed as the bargain to beat all bargains. "It honestly got to the embarrasing stage," he recalled. "I would go to supporters’ functions and be literally overwhelmed with people telling me what a brilliant signing I was. I have little doubt the fact I had only cost £30,000 had much to do with the amazing receptions I got. "Dundee did not have that much money to spend on transfers-less certainly than many other provincial teams-and I think they liked the idea that (then boss) Jocky Scott had unearthed someone other managers had missed." It is an assessment which rings true; certainly the persistent talk that city rivals United had also wanted to sign him put a smile on the face of many Dark Blues fans at the time. Sadly, Boyack’s popularity was to plummet in the months to come as he failed to maintain his form, a situation which came to a head in Dundee’s winter camp in Cyprus last season. "I dipped, there is no doubt about it. I don’t know if it was an effort to concentrate more on my defensive duties or a loss of confidence. You need self-belief when you are playing in a creative position such as mine for you have to back yourself to beat the opposition player in front of you. For whatever reason, I wasn’t playing as well as I had been at the start and the fans picked up on it and started giving me stick during games. "I tried to put it out of my mind but when we went away to Cyprus, Jocky Scott took me in and told me he thought I was not playing nearly as well as I could. "He underlined by making me substitute against Hearts, which was our first game after we came back. I have never enjoyed being on the bench and took it badly at the time. In hindsight, though, it was perhaps the kick up the backside I needed for I worked really hard from then on and was happy with my performances in the second half of the season. "They may not have been as showy as some people would have liked but I believe I did my bit for the side, week in, week out. In addition, I feel the 3-0 derby win over United was as well as I have ever played for Dundee." The challenge for him now is to reproduce that sort of form often enough to convince new manager Ivano Bonetti he is worth a regular place in the side-a test he is looking forward to. "This is a huge season for me-the biggest yet because of my contract situation," Boyack said. "I am no longer one of the ‘young’ players anymore but someone with 50 SPL games behind him. "Of course, the influx of new faces is going to squeeze everyone, with competition for places sure to be intense. That said, I am confident I can do well because I feel I possess the ability to do so. In addition, I have been impressed with the new ideas the foreign coaches have brought with them. Ivano Bonetti, in particular, is a very talented, creative player and has been working hard to teach me and the other forwards his ideas about the game. "This season is going to be a different experience for us all but it will also be a very exciting one. I am very much looking forward to it." Dundee yesterday confirmed they have reached agreement with Preston over compensation for Iain Anderson. "Both parties are happy at the outcome of the negotiations and Dundee FC wish Iain all the best," said a Dens spokesman. Third choice keeper Derek Soutar is set to complete his season-long loan move to Brechin later today.
FRI 7TH JULY
Raith Rovers have announced prices for the friendly at Starks Park on July 17th. Adult admission will cost £8 with children at £4.
FRI 7TH JULY
Dundee have lined up their first match under new manager Ivano Bonetti.
They hope to play Pavia, an Italian fourth division side, at the Borno Stadium on Sunday night.
A semi-professional outfit, Pavia are based near the site high in the Alps where the Dark Blues have chosen to hold their pre-season training camp.
"At the stage we are at, this looks the right match for us," said Bonetti, who should know later today if the game will go ahead.
"Our aim has always been to build things, for we have not been long back in training.
"You have to remember that the game will be played at altitude (3000 feet above sea level), which makes a difference."
THU 6TH JULY
Ivano Bonetti plans to introduce a squad rotation system, made famous south of the border by Gianluca Vialli at Chelsea.
Vialli made headlines time and again last year with his repeated willingness to drop some of the biggest names in European football from his line-ups.
Gianfranco Zola, Marcel Desailly, Dennis Wise; no-one was considered so integral to the side they could not be taken out, rested then later smoothly re-introduced.
Controversial yes, but the strategy brought rewards, with Chelsea ending a season which had featured a spirited run in the Champions League with success in the FA Cup Final at Wembley.
Bonetti believes the key elements of the rotation policy can work at Dundee.
"Our situations are a little different, not just because of the players involved, but the number of games. Chelsea had to fulfil many Champions League fixtures which is not something we have to worry about."
"Nevertheless, it is my belief that this system has things to offer Dundee."
"I would like very much to be at a point where we have two players available for every position in the team - two players for each position who knew exactly the system we want to play and are able to interchange without upsetting the rhythm of the side."
"Of course, I accept that might not always be possible, but it is a goal to which we will aspire."
"The Scottish season is a long one and, from what I have learned of it, you need to have stamina if you are to achieve the goals you set yourself."
"When I say that I do not mean individual stamina but collective - in other words, the whole squad."
"Players do not always see that because, understandably, they are concerned about themselves. They want to play in each and every game."
"That can be a positive thing, too, because it means there is competition for places which often brings out the best in people."
WED 5TH JULY
Brechin City manager Dick Campbell is hoping to persuade youth team goalkeeper 19-year-old Derek Soutar, to join the Glebe Park squad.
Campbell has spoken to Dundee and the player and is confident of getting the go-ahead from his own directors to fill the post.
City had no successor in place when veteran Bobby Geddes departed at the end of last season and a replacement is needed quickly.
Soutar, a Scottish Youth choice, was signed by Dundee last year, having been on an S form.
WED 5TH JULY
Centre half Chris Coyne reckons his chances of being included in the Australian squad for the Olympics rests on whether he succeeds in impressing new manager Ivano Bonetti during the Dee's Italian training camp over thew next couple of weeks.
A full Australian internationalist, Coyne is desperate to be part of the side which lines up in Sydney in two months time.
As a 22-year-old, he fits the criteria-each country is allowed just three players over the age of 23 -but he is convinced he will only get the call if he is involved with the Dark Blues’ first team squad at the start of the coming season.
And with the chance to represent his nation in the opener against Nigeria before a sell-out 100,000 crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the line, he is happy to do whatever it takes.
"I would be lying if I said the Olympics wasn’t a big, big deal for me," Coyne admitted.
"As a kid I used to go to watch cricket and Aussie Rules (football) at the MCG and the thought of playing there in the Olympics, a tournament with such an incredible history, makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up even now. "
"However, I think my father was spot on when he told me to concentrate on doing my business for my football club because if I did that then I would get the rewards at international level."
He continued, "The Australian manager, Raul Blanco, is a good bloke who has always been very fair with me but I think any national coach would have doubts about players who are out of the picture with their club side."
"Although there is an age cap, the competition for places is fierce with the game getting bigger and bigger all the time back home."
"I honestly reckon that for me it could end up coming down to what I am doing with Dundee."
"Given that the whole purpose of this training camp is for the manager to assess the players he has at the club, that means I have to make an impression now."
"Since arriving in Italy I have been doing a lot of running to build up my stamina and I am now about at the stage where I can start doing myself justice on the pitch."
The defender is no stranger to being left out in the cold by his country.
As one of the first young Australians to move abroad to join a foreign club (West Ham), he was at the centre of a national controversy and believes he was made a scapegoat as a result.
It was an experience he found painful, and one he is anxious to avoid repeating.
"Myself and Harry Kewell certainly hit the headlines when we moved overseas," he said with a wry smile.
"Some people in the game back home seemed to panic that they would lose all their best young talent to Europe and felt that they had to do something to prevent it."
"I think there was a lot of politics involved but the end result was that we stopped getting selected for the Australian squad."
"Eventually things calmed down and we were brought back in again, but at the time it was very worrying."
"Just because I chose to come and play in Great Britain doesn’t mean I don’t love my country. "
"I am always proud to represent them and, as I say, doing so in the Olympics would be a special thrill."
Australia are sure to have the benefit of a partisan support.
And with Italy, and Germany to face in their section as well as Nigeria, they are likely to need it.
"Football is maybe not the first sport you associate with the Olympics but I don’t think there is any doubt that all the countries we will be up against are going to take it seriously," said Coyne.
"The Italians are delaying the start of their season by several weeks so their squad can get the best possible preparation for the tournament and I know the Germans will be out to make a big impression."
"We will be up against it, I am sure, but the whole soccer programme back home is making a huge effort too with the players from the Australian clubs already in training at a special camp set up on the Gold Coast."
"The players all know what these Games mean to the people back home and will give their all for them."
WED 5TH JULY
Javier Artero has become the first casualty since Dundee set up camp in Borno.
The Spaniard suffered a hamstring strain during one of the Dark Blues’ work outs. He is receiving treatment but the problem is not thought to be a serious one.
WED 5TH JULY
Frank Van Eijs reckons speculation about his future is sabotaging his chances of earning a place in Ivano Bonetti’s new-look side.
The Dutchman was one of three players reported at the weekend to be on their way out of Dens Park - Lee Maddison and Hugh Robertson being the others.
And, though Bonetti has since dismissed the stories as having no grounding in truth, Van Eijs is a concerned man.
"These type of situations are very unsettling," he said. "The arrival of the new management team had filled me with confidence for I am a continental type of player and I feel I am suited to the style of football they want to introduce."
"Then you hear suggestions you are not wanted, and your optimism disappears. I know the manager has said there is nothing to it, but things like this tend to prey on my mind."
"The timing could not be worse because pre-season training camp is when you need to be making a good impression. I will stick in, though, for I am determined to prove myself."
TUE 4TH JULY
Dundee’s Georgian internationalist Georgi Nemsadze is being tipped to be a huge hit in the SPL this season by his new clubmates.
The much-travelled midfielder has been the talk of the Dark Blues’ training camp in the Italian Alps, with opinion unanimous about his potential.
"That man is a machine, pure and simple," said Shaun McSkimming. "He has excellent technique, is very athletic and knows the game inside and out."
"Sometimes when players arrive you are not too sure about them, but I haven’t the slightest doubt Georgi will be a stand-out once the season gets under way."
McSkimming’s view was echoed by fellow midfielder Patrizio Billio.
"Georgi is a very talented player who can be a big star for Dundee," he said. "If he came from a country more fashionable than Georgia, he would already be a name everyone would recognise."
"That doesn’t matter to him for he captains his national side, and has played at the top level for clubs all over."
Another player taken by the new signing is Steven Boyack, who said, "He has to be one of the most skillful guys I have ever played with."
"Technically, he is so good and he has the fitness and physical presence to go with it."
"I would certainly expect him to go straight into our first team and, from a personal point of view, I will be looking to learn all I can from him."
While Dundee’s new boss Ivano Bonetti was happy to confirm Nemsadze’s name would indeed be among the first on his team sheet, he confessed he hasn’t decided where to use him.
Bonetti, meanwhile, has been forced to shelve plans for a friendly against Red Star Belgrade.
The Yugoslavs, currently on tour in Italy, had wanted to play at the start of this week and that was too early for Dundee.
MON 3RD JULY
Dundee have landed a five-figure sponsorship from a leading Italian coffee company.
Mokarbia, best known in their own country as makers of espresso, are planning to try to expand their business in the UK and see the increasingly cosmopolitan Dark Blues as the ideal advertising vehicle for their product.
The deal, initially for one season but with an option to extend if everything goes well, is to cover a range of media.
Under its terms the name Mokarbia will be seen at all home games at Dens Park and also on internet reports of the club’s matches on the Official website.
Team manager Ivano Bonetti was the man who made use of his long-term contacts to set up the deal and, while he was not able to testify about the drink’s suitability as a companion for the half-time pie, he was looking forward to taking personal advantage of the tie-up.
"It is great to bring in money for Dundee but what I am looking forward to most is being able to get a proper cup of coffee at Dens," he joked.
"More seriously, I am very pleased with this deal because I have known this company for a long time and they are good people."
"They saw what was going on at the football club and were very keen to get involved."
"The presence of myself, Dario (Bonetti), Enzo Romano, Marco de Marchi, Marcello Marrocco and Patrizio Billio has been the subject of much talk in Italy and Mokarbia believe there is going to be much interest in our progress this season."
"Linking their product to us makes good business sense to them."
The new sponsors have wasted no time getting involved, with the fences around the Borno stadium where the Dundee team do their daily work-outs draped with advertising banners.
That thinking has not been misplaced for the presence of the tourists has been picked up by locals, many of whom have taken the chance to watch the "Scozzese" go through their paces.
And while there tends to be confusion over whether Dundee are a "Serie A" outfit in their own country or not, the spotting of former Roma, Juventus and Genoa favourites among the sweating footballers is becoming a popular pastime.
"The people here don’t know too much about the Scottish game but they love the sport and welcome the idea of several Italians linking up at a club in another country," said Bonetti.
"We have already been told that there a lot of Vitesse Arnhem fans coming across to watch Marco de Marchi early this season and I would expect that we might get quite a few coming over from here too."
MON 3RD JULY
With temperatures in the 90s at the Borno training camp, the coaching staff gave the players an easier time of it yesterday, with some light running in the morning and a practice match in the evening.
Georgian internationalist Georgi Nemsadze continues to show up well, with almost everyone in the party taking the chance to compliment his ability and attitude.
In much of the training, the coaching staff have been working with a four-man midfield which pairs Nemsadze and Billio in the centre and has the manager on the left and Spaniard Javier Artero wide right.
The all continental combination has looked impressive, though Bonetti is still undecided over whether Namsadze should be the one to push forward while Billio fills a holding role or vice versa. As he says, he still has plenty of time with the matches against local regional selects pencilled in for next week looking an ideal opportunity to experiment.
The manager looks set to be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking his sides for the squad have been completely injury-free up till now.
Chris Coyne, the Australian central defender, is perhaps the only player who might struggle in a game for he is still building up his fitness after the summer break but even he feels he is close to match ready.
SUN 2ND JULY
Iain Anderson will become a Preston player this week after the newly promoted English First Division side agreed to stump up Toulouse's £500,000 asking price.
The 22-year-old was also rumoured to be interesting Dundee United however Ando is only the latest in a long list of players to snub offers from the Sticklebrick. Preston boss Davie Moyes is finally set to close the transfer deal after long-running negotiations.
That will net Dundee a £100,000 cash windfall under UEFA transfer regulations - because he has returned to the UK within a year of leaving Dundee on a Bosman, the Dee's are entitled to compensation.
SAT 1ST JULY
Marcello Marrocco, a 31-year-old left back who played directly behind Bonetti for Genoa and also had a spell with Napoli, had two years of a contract with home town team Modena remaining but was persuaded to exercise a special get-out clause to quit the club and sign for the Dark Blues.
"I have spent all my career in Italy," said Marrocco, "Though I had offers from foreign teams such as England’s Sheffield United, I was always happy to stay in my own country."
"That could have continued until I finished playing if it had not been for Ivano, as I had time left with Modena and was earning a good living."
"However, the chance to come and be part of the project that Ivano and Dario have embarked upon was too much to resist."
"I am a big admirer of both men and the fact that they had already signed top quality players such as Georgi Nemsadze, the Georgian captain, and Marco di Marchi, who I know well, shows they have great ambition."
"We will all be playing in a different country and in a different football culture but I am sure we can do well."
"The three-year contract I have signed shows not only the faith the club have in me but also the belief I have in them."
Bonetti, for his part, was more than satisfied to have persuaded one of his main signing targets to defect to Scotland."
"Marcello is a very disciplined and very clever professional footballer who plays the game as much with his mind as with his body," he said.
"When you are trying to build something solid for the future you need to know the pieces you are putting in place are dependable and I know that to be true of him."
"He has given up a lot to come and join us but I am sure he will not regret it."
"All the people we have been bringing know that this is a serious thing we are doing and want to give all they can."
"Between myself and my brother we have 40 years experience of being involved with top football clubs and we intend to use all that we have learned to make Dundee a very strong player in the Scottish game."
The manager’s top priority now is to recruit a striker of proven quality to make up for the recent losses of the Spaniard Francisco Luna and James Grady.
"I have a player in mind who would do very well for us but it may take a little time to secure him," he said.
"The unsuccessful negotiations with Luna have held us up to the point where we are now having to try to make up for lost time."
Marcello does not have that problem, his signing dovetailing perfectly with the start of the club’s pre-season training camp high in the Italian Alps.
Dundee’s trip yesterday took over 12 hours in total, their Borno base with its snowcapped peaks overlooking sylvan valleys nevertheless is sure to provide a stunning backdrop for the Dark Blues’ work-outs.
Of more value to Bonetti is the effect the 1000-metre height above sea level will have on his players’ fitness levels.
For many of their squad it is their first experience of altitude training, which is thought to help greatly with stamina.
Olympic hopeful Chris Coyne, newly returned from a summer trip back to his native Australia, is one who has been through it all before and reckons the effects will certainly be beneficial.
"It is really hard going at first as your body simply can’t get enough oxygen in and you end up feeling as if you are drowning," he said.
"Once you get used to it, though, there is no question that it makes you feel really fit."
Given the time spent on the road and in the air, Bonetti saw fit to spare them the ordeal yesterday. Today though there will be no such leniency.
Ivano Bonetti has managed to prise one of his former teammates away from his current Italian club.
FRI 30TH JUNE
Ivano Bonetti is forecasting bright times ahead for the Dark Blues after being struck by both the attitude and aptitude of his new charges.
The Dark Blues completed a final training session yesterday ahead of their departure for the mountain training camp at Borno in northern Italy and the smile on the face of the new boss was broad as he looked forward to taking the club’s pre-season build up to a new level.
"I am very happy with them all," he said, "If they carry on the way they have been going then I see only good things ahead for this football team."
"People told me before I came here that Scottish people were honest people who were always prepared to work hard but even having heard that, I have still found myself highly impressed by the response we have received from the players."
"To give you an example when I told them that I wanted the training to be carried out in silence to help with concentration, I expected it would make things quieter, not shut off the noise completely."
"However, they took me at my word and you could hear a pin drop as they went about their work."
"It illustrates what I am speaking about. Many of my ideas are new to them but they are very open to them and keen to do whatever we ask of them."
Despite his appreciation of his players’ ability and their collective willingness to learn, Bonetti still believes there is much hard work ahead."
"This trip will be no holiday," he said, "It should be an ideal stage in which to get the guys up to peak condition while communicating to them exactly what we want from them."
"In order to make the most of the opportunity though we will all have to make a big effort."
"I have said before that I think a mix of Italian and Scottish football philosophies is the best way ahead for us and that remains my view."
"Football is a universal game but there are some differences from country to country. My idea of how a back four should operate is not necessarily the same as the managers here have."
"We need to get our philosophies across and I am sure that we can do that. The exciting thing will be seeing how they work in the Scottish game."
THU 29TH JUNE
Dundee today announced that they are to make Forthill Sports Club their training base.
The club have been using the facility in preparation for heading off to Italy and have arranged a five-year lease with the facilities’ owners.
Said a Dens Park spokesman, "We have been searching for an all-purpose training base for some time and believe Forthill is ideal-it would be a massive coup for us to be able to use it as a dedicated training camp.
"However, we would stress that any association we have would be in the form of being good and responsible tenants. We would not impinge on any of the other sporting clubs who use Forthill. If fact we would be looking to assist in updating the facilities."
THU 29TH JUNE
The following is an official statement released by the club:
It is with regret that Dundee Football Club confirms today that Francisco Luna will not be returning to Dens Park next season. Terms were agreed between the player and the club earlier this week that would have brought Luna to Dundee on a three-year £300,000 deal. However, question marks over his family's willingness to move to the UK persisted and, as appeared insurmountable, Dundee Football Club and Francisco felt it would be unwise to push the deal through.
A spokesman for Dundee FC said, ''Rumours that the deal was dead a few days ago were premature. On football matters alone, both the club and the player had reached agreement as had his current club Sporting Gijon. ''However, we were all acutely aware throughout the talks that the prospect of settling their young family in a foreign country did not appeal to Paco's expectant wife and that it might be the stumbling block to securing the deal.'' During telephone conversations on Tuesday night it was clear that Luna's wife was becoming increasingly distressed at the prospect of moving abroad. Because of this the club felt it would be unfair to proceed with the signing.
''Dundee FC took a very cautious approach throughout these negotiations as we wanted Paco here next year. But at the end of the day family has to come before football. ''The player is upset he will not be returning to Dundee as he enjoyed his time here. We are disappointed he won't be joining us as he was as much a favourite with us as he was with the fans.
Confirming today that he would not be a Dundee player next term, Luna said, ''I want to thank the fans and everybody at the club for making my brief time at Dundee so enjoyable. They have a big place in my heart and I will not forget them. ''I wanted to be back at Dens next season and I am disappointed that won't now be the case. I just hope that the fans will understand that I had to put my family first.'' The club spokesman stressed, ''This was not a money issue, it was a family issue. If we had signed Paco and the family had struggled to adapt to life in Scotland, it would almost certainly have had an unsettling effect on the player. That would have benefited nobody. ''We have told Paco that we understand his situation and he has the best wishes of everyone at Dens Park for the future.''
Dundee Football Club will now turn its attentions to a number of strikers identified by Ivano Benetti as signing targets. The manager expects to add at least one more quality striker to the squad before the season starts.
WED 28TH JUNE
Dundee's squad for the training trip to Italy has been named. It includes new signings Marco de Marchi, Georgi Nemsadze as well as Australian central defender Chris Coyne and Scottish Third Division Player of the Year Steven Milne, who has returned to the club after a year on loan at Forfar Athletic.
| Goalkeepers | Robert Douglas, Jamie Langfield |
| Defenders | Barry Smith, Willie Miller, Marco dei Marchi, Frank van Eijs, Lee Wilkie, Lee Maddison, Chris Coyne, Steven Tweed |
| Midfield | Gavin Rae, Javier Artero, Steven Boyack, Patrizio Billio, Shaun McSkimming, Georgi Nemsadze, Hugh Robertson |
| Forwards | Graham Bayne, Barry Elliot, Willie Falconer, Michael Yates, Stephen Milne |
The squad leave Dens on Friday afternoon, returning to Scotland on July 16th.
WED 28TH JUNE
Jocky Scott was finally named as new boss of English side Notts County, still claiming Dundee had made a huge mistake in letting him go.
He doesn't have a contract with the club, but has some security in getting
four months notice should he be asked to leave.
Scott pointed out to the success he achieved at Dens Park with limited resources, and everything he said pointed to a real feeling of bitterness towards his former pals the Marr Brothers.
But as far as he's concerned, that's all in the past now and he was looking forward to his first appearance in England as a manager.
TUE 27TH JUNE
Dundee’s chances of signing Sporting Gijon striker Francisco Luna are still alive.
Reports had suggested that the striker, who made an instant impact with four goals in seven games when he arrived on a short-term deal at the end of last season, had killed off the deal because of his family’s reluctance to travel to Scotland.
However, a spokesman at Dens today said, "The deal isn’t dead and talks are continuing with Luna’s agent."
What is clear is that question marks still remain over the willingness of the Spaniard’s family to move to this country. This has made the Dens board wary as to whether to proceed with negotiations.
However, the club insist they haven’t pulled the plug on the deal.
Meanwhile, the Dundee squad continued their pre-season build-up with another double training stint. A physical session was followed by a workout this afternoon focused on tactics and technique.
"The players are working hard and, so far, everyone is OK," said new boss Ivano Bonetti.
The new regime has adopted a more continental approach to training with a longer rest at lunchtime and a later start to the afternoon.
The Dundee party that travels to Italy on Friday will consist of 24 players and the manager feels sure they will benefit from their pre-season training in his homeland.
"We will continue to work on our fitness and the hotter climate will help us improve on that. It will also be good to have the squad away together without distractions."
One player who won’t be making the trip is striker Nicky Banger. The former Oxford United man has picked up a strain and will remain at home.
While Georgi Nemsadze and Marco di Marchi have already been introduced at Dens, Ivano says he may make more signings before the season starts, adding, "We possibly need one or two more players but we’ll decide when we come back from our training camp."
MON 26TH JUNE
Jocky Scott looks certain to take over at Notts County within the next 48 hours.
Scott was due back from holiday last night and the indications are he’ll be named as the new boss at Meadow Lane by tomorrow at the latest.
"We hope to announce the appointment of an experienced and respected manager and Jocky Scott is very much in our thoughts," admitted County chairman Derek Pavis.
MON 26TH JUNE
The Dark Blues hopes of playing Udinese while on their 16 day pre-season training trip to Italy have been dashed.
New boss Ivano Bonetti has laid down a Juventus style training programme for his charges while they are based in Borno and the date offered by Udinese wasn’t suitable, clashing as it did with a critical stage in those preparations.
Bonetti still hopes to fix up a couple of matches. But these would have to fit in with the training regime.
Half a dozen first team squad men were missing, due to holidays, when the pre-season work got under way at Dens on Saturday. But Bonetti will have a full strength staff come this morning.
SUN 25TH JUNE
Dundee midfielder Steven Boyack reckons new boss Ivano Bonetti can be Dundee's answer to Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli.
Boyack's comments come fresh after the new Dens Park manager took his first training session after arriving at the club on Friday. Former Scotland Under-21 star Boyack hopes that the training methods Bonetti picked up whilst playing at top Serie A sides Juventus and Sampdoria will be of benefit at Dundee and likened the Italian's move to Scotland as that of Gianluca Vialli's to Stamford Bridge.
He commented: "When Vialli took over at Chelsea people wondered if he had the experience to manage them. But he had spent years playing for some of the best coaches in the world and used the methods he'd learned from them and look at Chelsea now. That's what our new boss will do."
SAT 24TH JUNE
Dundee boss Ivano Bonetti insists he is still confident of bringing Italian legend Attilio Lombardo to Dens Park.
However, Bonetti has revealed he may have to wait until next year to sign the veteran Lazio star after he pledged his future to the Rome side for a further season.
Nonetheless, the new manager believes he would have secured a deal to bring his target to Tayside already, had it not been for the offer of a contract extension with the Italian champions.
Bonetti revealed: "He has already signed for Lazio, but it was my intention to bring him to Dundee.
"I think I will have a better chance of getting him next year. I will certainly discuss it with him in the future. He will play for Lazio for just one more year, so I will wait and see what happens with that.
"We are close friends and I have already told him I want him to play for Dundee. When we spoke I told him he was already a rich man and that Dundee was the place for him," he added.
FRI 23RD JUNE
Work has started on Dundee FC's new club shop and ticket office which will be situated at Dens Park Stadium.
As many fans passing the ground have already seen, the new Dundee Direct outlet will be situated between the Main Stand and the Bobby Cox Family Stand and will be twice the size of the club's existing shop in Commercial Street.
Bringing the club shop into the Dens Park fold should be a huge benefit to fans who, from next season, will be able to take advantage of the complete football package without having to stray from the stadium.
From the club's perspective the switch makes economic sense as it will own the building, rather than leasing a city centre property. The existing shop will be closed and business transferred once the new Dundee Direct is ready to open its doors.
Another financial fillip for Dundee has been the generosity of the tradesmen and contractors who are giving their service and materials free of charge.
To that end, Dundee Football Club is grateful to Ceramic Tile Warehouse, Laird Brothers, Raymond Gloag, Xara Sportswear, Ward Plumbing, BR Electrical, RW Hynd and Marstar Builders for their support.
It is hoped to have the new shop and ticket office open from the start of the season and, as well as keeping true to the service and stock offered at Commercial Street, the new Dundee Direct will have a greater range of merchandise on sale.
''While Commercial Street has operated successfully over the years we felt the time was right to incorporate the shop and ticket office at Dens Park. Essentially we are bringing the shop to the fans and are sure that it will be more convenient for everyone concerned,'' a spokesman said.
Work is also scheduled to start soon on the club's first dedicated Media Lounge. The glass-fronted room will be situated at the heart of the Main Stand and will provide facilities for newspaper and electronic media.

WED 21ST JUNE
Lee Wilkie yesterday signed a 12-month extension to his contract, which had two years left to run-then pledged to remain a Dark Blue until the summer of 2002 at least.
"I know there has been a lot of stuff in the papers linking me with other clubs but I just want to concentrate on developing my career at Dundee," said Wilkie.
"Last season was really my first at top team level and I know I need another couple of good years under my belt before I can think of anything else."
Wilkie confessed to being excited by the arrival of the new regime at Dens.
"We are going to be in for different times at Dundee and I am looking forward to them," he said.
"There are going to be a lot of changes at the club and the signing of someone as experienced of Marco di Marchi for example can only benefit me personally."
WED 21ST JUNE
While Wilkie was signing on the dotted line Dundee placed left-back Lee Sharp on the transfer list.
As Sharp cost them just £25,000 from Dumbarton 18 months ago the Dens Park club say they will not be difficult to deal with.
Another trio of first-team squad men are set to join Sharp in being listed.
However, the identities of those individuals are being witheld for now.
"We are going to announce the availability of others but cannot identify at the moment as they are presently on holiday and we haven’t spoken to them as yet," admitted a club insider.
WED 21ST JUNE
The arrival at Dens of Francisco Luna’s agent Jorge Lera Astofili has been delayed. Astofili is expected to meet club officials today though and the signs are Luna will become a permanent member of the playing staff.
WED 21ST JUNE
Dundee will unveil a new mystery Italian signing by the end of this week.
The new management regime - of Ivano Bonetti, Dario Bonetti, Dario Magri and Enzo Romano - will arrive at Dens Park on Friday and be accompanied by the highly-rated player.
Georgi Nemsadze, Marco di Marchi and Javier Artero have already signed for the club and Francisco Luna is on the verge of clinching a move.
A spokesman for the club said: "It is correct that they will be arriving on Friday with the player and we are confident of unveiling the new signing by the end of the week."
The club also expect to reach an agreement with present boss Jocky Scott and his assistant Jimmy Bone in the next few days to end their contracts before they are due to expire on July 9.
That would open the way for the new management team to move into Dens Park earlier than expected and start preparations for the forthcoming campaign.
The Dundee players are due back at the club this Friday to start pre-season training - a week earlier than originally planned.
A talk-in with the playing staff is planned for early that evening and pre-season training gets under way the following morning-a week earlier than originally planned.
A spokesman added: "Talks are progressing with Jocky and Jimmy and we are confident of an agreement within the next few days."

MON 19TH JUNE
No-one at the club was available for comment today, but It is understood several of the obstacles delaying the transfer have already been removed, and that the player is keen to resume his career at Dens .
Sporting Gijon originally wanted £600,000 for the player, but it now looks as if he could be bought for around half of that amount.
Any deal now looks likely to be similar to the club record £300,000 which brought his fellow-countryman Javier Artero to Dens.
This shows the commitment that the current board have towards keeping Dundee as THE top club in the city, as opposed to the tired old men at the Sticklebrick who only appear to be courting the signitures of way past their best English 3rd Division journeymen.
Francisco Luna’s agent is expected in Dundee tomorrow to continue talks aimed at bringing the striker to Dens Park on a permanent contract.
SUN 18TH JUNE
Eddie Annand feels that Dundee are heading for relegation under the new leadership of Ivano and Dario Bonetti.
Annand, who recently signed for Ayr United, fears that the new duo will draft in too many foreign players who will struggle to settle in Scottish football, culminating in their drop from the top flight.
Annand commented: "I think they will draft in too many foreigners. A lot of lads from abroad have come here and failed and I fear Dundee will be relegated."
This smacks of someone bitter at not being offered a new deal and having to ply his trade at a lower level. Although had he shown the same amount of effort on the pitch as his mouth seems to do off it then things might have been different.
SUN 18TH JUNE
Arbroath are in the hunt to sign former Dundee striker Keith Wright.
The Second division outfit will be able to sign Wright for nothing as he is available on a free transfer.
It is also possible that he may be joined by Tommy Coyne who was recently released from Dens Park - Although wether they would be able to rekindle the striking partnership of years gone by is debatable.

WED 14TH JUNE
Dundee United could end up handing the Dees a cash windfall through their interest in former Dark Blues winger Iain Anderson.
Anderson quit Dens Park last July when he made use of the Bosman Ruling to join the French outfit Toulouse for no fee.
He struggled to establish himself across the Channel and ended up being loaned to Preston North End who he helped clinch the English second division championship.
North End manager Davie Moyes was impressed and moved to tie up the player on a long-term deal.
Anderson agreed personal terms but the transfer stalled when Toulouse rejected Preston’s £250,000 offer as some £500,000 shy of their valuation.
On paper the delay looked a setback for Preston but in practice it worked in their favour. Buy Anderson before July 16 and, under UEFA regulations governing the transfer of players aged under 24 moving out of the country then returning within 12 months, they will also have to fork out compensation to Dundee.
With the player on record about his desire to stay at Deepdale and Toulouse looking at clear profit on the transfer, close observers of the situation fully expected an announcement that everything had been worked out-once the year was up.
However, United’s admission that they have been on to Anderson’s agent to inquire about his availability could prompt Preston to bite the bullet and settle things now even though it would mean them also having to pay Dundee.
"We remain hopeful that Iain will be a North End player next season," said Deepdale chief executive Tony Scholes on hearing the news yesterday.
"Negotiations have been taking place with Toulouse to make that happen and are continuing at the moment.
"These things can take longer than one would like at times but there is a will on all sides to get it done and that is the most important factor."
Scholes’ confidence would suggest that whether or not Dundee get their cut, United manager Paul Sturrock will need to look elsewhere for the quality wide player he is searching for.
WED 14TH JUNE
Jocky Scott has been severly censured and warned to his further conduct by the SFA after being reported by Tayside Police for gesticulating towards a section of the Dundee fans in the home match against Rangers on February 27.
WED 14TH JUNE
Dundee have been told to stop haggling over the fee for Francisco Luna or be prepared to lose him altogether.
Sporting Gijon have apparently offered the player to the Dens Park side for a knockdown £125,000, but even that doesn't appear to satisfy Dundee's demands.
Considering the Spanish side originally wanted £600,000 for the player who certainly impressed during his time on Tayside, £125,000 seems more than reasonable. Dundee, of course, are entitled to carry out their business as they see fit, but Luna warned last night as Spanish side Real Murcia take a closer interest: "If there is a possibility to remain in Spain I will take it. It's too much trouble to move my family to Scotland."
WED 14TH JUNE
Despite weekend reports that Argentinian World Cup star Claudio Caniggia had refused an offer to join Dundee, rumours are mounting that he has had second thaughts and may be prepared to join the Dees.
THU 8TH JUNE
The Dundee board have today refused to rule out the possibility of top Italian stars Attilio Lombardo and Roberto Mancini being at Dens Park next season .
As new manager Ivano Bonetti continues his summer spending spree on the continent, rumours have been growing locally that former internationals Lombardo and Mancini could be among the next batch of players to be fixed up.
While, it is unlikely either will be in the squad for the start of the new campaign next month, I understand there is a chance they could join up at some stage in the coming months.
Both are on good terms with Ivano and his assistant, older brother Dario, and through that contact it is possible they could sign.
Lombardo, in particular, could be on his way before too long. After recent spells at Crystal Palace, where he was even player/manager for a short time, and Lazio he has been playing in China.
That, though, is understood to be a short-term arrangement and he will be looking to get back to Europe in the next few months.
Former Sampdoria star Mancini - he formed a deadly strike force with Lombardo and Vialli is less certain to link up with Dundee.
Although now 34, he is still looked upon as a valuable member of the Lazio squad that clinched the Italian championship just a few weeks ago.
The club would not comment directly on the rumours, but their words made it clear they are keen to sign big names.
"One of the reasons we wanted Ivano Bonetti and his brother Dario at Dundee FC is because they would be able to draw upon the excellent contacts that they have built up at the highest levels of the European game," said a spokesman.
"Both have played at the best clubs in the world alongside some of the biggest names in the global game and they are now in a position to take advantage of that superb contact base."
"We will not comment on potential signing targets, but it is safe to say that we expect another two or three players to arrive at Dens Park from the continent in the near future."
THU 8TH JUNE
The club have announced that from next season, they will take their catering in-house in a bid to reduce the cost of the traditional half-time pie and bovril.
As well as hopefully getting rid of the dreaded CRUSTY BURGERS.
You never know maybe even EDO'S dream of a bar in the Bobby Cox Stand may yet be realised.
WED 7TH JUNE
Morning reports have linked Jocky Scott with a return to Pittodrie for the third time in his managerial career.
His last job was under Alex Smith where they formed a powerful partnership, and as he's out of contract at Dens Park on July 9, there's certainly something in this move top benefit both Scott and Aberdeen.
Neither party was willing to comment on the speculation as Jocky continued to be in talks about getting a payoff from his deal before the contract expires next month.
If he walks out, he gets nothing, and if Dundee release him before that date, they have to pay him a year's salary.
WED 7TH JUNE
Dundee have told two Danish trialists they will not be getting the offer of a contract at Dens Park.
The players were visiting Tayside last month looking for a deal, but that now appears unlikely.
Meanwhile, the agent acting on behalf of Spanish striker Fransisco Luna, Angel Rodriguez, said this morning he believes he can get Dundee the player for a bargain £150,000.
His current side Sporting Gijon want £600,000 for the player who looks to be a good one, and Rodriguez said: "To be honest if Dundee offer £150,000 to Gijon they will sign him for that amount.
"The player has already agreed a three-year deal with the club as he enjoyed his time there so much last season."
WED 7TH JUNE
Dundee fans were out in force again today to take advantage of the club’s season ticket prices.
Traditionally, the club shop closes on a Wednesday, but it was open for business today and staff were greeted by a line of supporters who were all eager to guarantee their seats at Dens Park next term.
Already, signs are that the club’s determination to make football affordable for all the family could see the Bobby Cox Family Stand sold out by the end of the week. About 2600 tickets have been claimed by fans in a little over a fortnight and there are now fewer than 1000 seats available in the Bobby Cox Stand.
When the 1999-2000 season kicked-off, Dundee had sold in the region of 2500 season tickets - which indicates that the supporters are now snapping up the season briefs like never before.
"We were certain that the season ticket package for next season would prove popular, but, obviously, we are delighted and even proud of the way that Dundee fans have responded," chief Executive Peter Marr said.
"But cut-price season tickets are only part of the equation. Fans must be entertained and be allowed to have aspirations for their team along the way. We are excited by what is happening at this club and I think it’s fair to say that the supporters are as excited as we are about the future of Dundee FC."

United season ticket prices These are well worth a look (NOT!)- the only areas where season tickets are available at the prices the Arabs quoted in the press are in the east stand - Only, there are no reduced child prices there!!!!
Also if you want to take advantage of the cheap child tickets you will have to sit in the wings of the lower tier George Fox stand with the adult expected to pay around £200. So the only way a family will benefit from going to Tannadice is if they split up and the adult goes to the East Stand (lower) and the kid sits in the wings in the George Fox (lower)
Does Geriatric Jim really expect a father to take his under 8 year old son to the game - deposit him in one stand, then go and sit at the opposite side of the ground.
I DONT THINK SO - and neither does McLean - Another cynical ploy by the Arab board to generate some revenue by letting the fans think that they have got a bargain.
They are also stating that season ticket sales are 5 times higher than at the same time last year - Given that they refused to disclose season ticket sales last year they can state any figure they like .
Their season tickets are also structured so that its more expensive to sit in the middle of the Travel Rug and Slipper Stand than at the sides. It is an absolute farce and if they don't get any negative publicity about it I will be most surprised!!!
TUE 6TH JUNE
Winger John Elliot has refused to sign the one-year contract offer that has been put to him.
He will be given more time to consider his options, although he has been told to give the club an answer as soon as possible.
TUE 6TH JUNE
Dundee also confirmed the news that midfielder Paul Clark has been released. The player left Dens Park to go on-loan to East Fife last season and is now looking for a new club.
MON 5TH JUNE
New Dundee manager Ivano Bonetti will be right at home when he takes up his duties next month because instead of flying here to take up his duties, the squad will be travelling to Italy to meet him.
Today, the Dundee board announced they had fixed up a two-week training camp in Borno, near Ivano’s home town of Brescia. The squad will fly out on June 30, for Altitude training - Borno is 1000 feet above sea level - and will also play two games over there.
One, already confirmed, will be against a Serie B select, while arrangements are still being made for a meeting with Serie A opposition as well. As well as the games, the players can expect some hard work in training, with two or three daily sessions as they get their first taste of pre-season continental style.
There will be little room for rest on their return and a friendly against Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park has been fixed up for July 17 - just 24 hours after the players fly back into Scotland.
Before the start of the new season on July 29, a trip to Ivano’s former club Grimsby Town will also be fitted in.
Talks between solicitors acting on behalf of the club and Jocky Scott continue. His contract is not up until July 9 and both parties are keen to come to an arrangement that enables him to go earlier and allow the new boss and his coaching team to take over right at the start of the Italian trip.
Talks are also continuing between Dundee and representatives of Spanish striker Francisco Luna. The player, who scored four goals in seven games while on loan from Sporting Gijon, is keen to make his stay permanent. However, there is still some hard bargaining to be done with him and Sporting before that happens.

Patrizio Billio is said to be making good progress after dislocating his left elbow in the final moments of Dundee's season.
Billio suffered the injury in the 2-0 defeat against Aberdeen in the dying moments of what was the club's final outing of the season. The injury was only a slight dislocation but nonetheless left the player in a great deal of pain.
However, the early diagnosis suggests the player will be fit to return for pre-season training as new boss Ivano Bonetti prepares for his first season in charge at Dens Park.

The wife of striker Francisco Luna could scupper Dundee's bid to sign the Spaniard.
Luna proved a huge success when he arrived on loan for the last few weeks of the season, and Dundee are now ready to smash their transfer record to prize him away from Sporting Gijon.
Dark Blues chief executive Peter Marr is prepared to top the £300,000 fee paid last week for fellow Spaniard Javier Artero, but Luna's pregnant wife may veto the deal.
"We'd love to keep Francisco," confirmed Marr. "He's made his mark in a short period and has become a big fans' favourite.
"Francisco is looking to come back for next season and beyond. But his wife is expecting soon and he'll have to see if she is prepared to move to Scotland with the child."

Former Dundee winger Iain Anderson remains caught up in a transfer tug of war between Toulouse and Preston North End.
The cheeky French outfit, who snapped up Anderson from the Dark Blues for nothing under the Bosman ruling last year, want £750,000 for him while Preston, with whom he was on loan this season are willing to pay only £400,000 for his services.
The player-who is also interesting Birmingham, Wolves, Tranmere Rovers and Vitesse Arnhem-is desperate for a permanent move to English football.
"Preston manager Davie Moyes has made it clear to me that he wants me back. Now I’m praying that Toulouse and Preston can come to an agreement," he said.
Anderson’s agent Blair Morgan said, "Hopefully the clubs will negotiate an acceptable fee for Iain."
FRI 2ND JUNE
Dundee have announced they have sold more than 1250 season tickets when they went on sale a few days ago.
That's brought in around £112,000 in much needed revenue and is about one third of last season's tally.
The most popular package with the support has been the family package available, and a spokesman for the club admitted last night: "Football clubs must offer value for money these days and we are certainly doing that through the cut-price deals we have on offer. With new signings to come we are also doing the business on the park and we are certain our fans will have something to cheer about."
THU 1ST JUNE
The widely quoted moves of strikers Eddie Annand and James Grady to Ayr United were completed today when the pair signed for the Honest Men. James has been one of the fans favourites during his three year spell at Dens. A spell in which he was top scorer as the Dees won promotion, won the SPFA First Division Player of the Year and scored in three separate derby wins. He found goals hard to come by at times in the Premier League but never gave anything less than 100% effort and of course we'll never forget THAT GOAL.
On the departures the club said today "Our new manager Ivano Bonetti is currently targeting players he feels will provide a potent strike force and we are hoping for developments soon, Meanwhile, both James and Eddie leave here with our best wishes for the future. "We were negotiating with James but he was looking for a three-year contract and that was something we did not feel we were in a position to give him."
Jamie Langfield gained his first under 21 cap on Wednesday when he kept a clean sheet in Scotland's 1-0 win over Wales. Hibernians' Kenny Miller scored the winning goal for the Scots.
The match took place in Northern Ireland as part of the Presidents Cup and Jamie was joined in the starting eleven by Lee Wilkie who won his sixth cap. Lee also came close to opening his scoring account at this level when he ran half the length of the field and fired in a shot which the Welsh keeper palmed away.

Robbie Raeside who is at the end of his contract has been offered a trial by current Exeter City manager and former Dee Noel Blake. Blake has also offered a trial to ex Dark Blue Craig Tully who has just been released by Ross County.
Gavin Rae has signed a one-year extension to his current contract that will keep him at Dens Park until the summer of 2003.
New manager Ivano Bonetti has been impressed by what he has seen of the 22-year-old in the videos of last season's games.
The Italian was eager to secure the former Scotland Under-21 star on a longer deal and he was delighted that he put pen to paper on a 12-month deal.
But they are set for more good news on the player front with highly-rated young defender Lee Wilkie also close to signing a one-year extension.
The Scotland Under-21 international has one year remaining on his current contract and the club are optimistic he too will put pen to paper.
Dundee chief executive Peter Marr said: "I am delighted that Gavin has committed himself to Dundee on a longer deal and we are confident Lee will follow suit very soon.
"Both are Scotland Under-21 internationals with very bright futures ahead of them and we want them to play a major part in our plans for this club."
Peter Marr poured cold water on the rumours which have suggested that Dundee will selling off the pick of their youngsters. Speaking to Ron Scott of The Sunday Post Peter said "Nothing could be further from the truth. Although our new manager Ivano Bonetti has concentrated on signing experienced players to date, I can assure our fans that we have not forgotten our youth policy." The article also states that Lee Wilkie and Gavin Rae are about to extend their contracts at Dens Park while Peter said of another couple of youngsters "Steven Milne will be returning to Dens after his successful loan to Forfar, while big things are expected of Graham Bayne - However, these two young strikers will require experienced help. Ivano intends continuing to play himself, just behind the front two, so this will obviously help Milne and Bayne develop."
MON 29TH MAY
Lee Wilkie, has been told he'll miss the first three games of next season as he's gone through the penalty point threshold.
The booking Wilkie got against Aberdeen in the last game of the season took him through that threshold, and now new manager Ivano Bonetti will have to find a replacement in the short-term as Wilkie is certain to be a regular starter next season.
SUN 28TH MAY
James Grady looks to be on his way from Dens Park. He admitted the club and his agent, Raymond Sparkes, have been in talks but they have now ground to a halt with no decision being made, and the player has confirmed he's likely to play for Ayr United next season in the first division, although he can't officially sign until his contract finally expires.
Ayr have so far made him the best offer.
SAT 27TH MAY
Dundee should know this week if their bid to keep a second Spaniard at the club next season will be successful.
After their £300,000 capture of Javier Artero, Peter Marr will be talking to Francisco Luna’s representatives over the next few days.
For Dundee to get Luna will take some hard bargaining - his weekly wage is understood to run well into four figures.
On top of that, his Spanish club Sporting Gijon want in excess of £500,000 for him and, unless they drop that price, it is unlikely a deal will be done.
FRI 26TH MAY
He proved not only to be a real crowd pleaser, but an elemental part of the club's strong finish to the league campaign. The Spaniard's contribution to the team's fortunes on the park left the board determined to bring him to Dundee on a permanent deal, after his earlier contract expired and his registration returned to San Lorenzo. Wearing his heart on a Dark Blue sleeve, Javier - or Harry as he is known at Dens - formed an instant bond with the club and its supporters and expressed a desire to commit his future to Dundee.
Negotiations between Dundee FC and San Lorenzo lasted the best part of week as both side's sought to agree a transfer fee. The deal was struck late last night (THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2000).
Chief executive Peter Marr expressed his delight that a deal that both the club and player had wanted had at last been delivered. ''In the very short time that Javier has been with the club, he has shown that he can be one of the shining talents in the Scottish game. ''He is an outstanding talent and one that will be complemented by the other signings that will be made by the new management team during the close season. ''With players of this calibre and the firm foundations we have in place at Dens Park, we have every reason to look forward to an exciting new season for Dundee Football Club.
Speaking from Malaga today, Javier said, ''I am very happy. I stayed in Dundee for three months and it was really good. The club was very good to me and the supporters were fantastic. ''Now I have one month's holiday, but already I am missing Dundee and my team mates and cannot wait to be back for training. ''The plans ahead are good, with a strong team and a new coach. I think it is going to be a very good season for Dundee next year. With the ambition everyone at the club is showing, it should not be too long until Dundee is back in Europe again''
Dundee Football Club provided their fans with the news they have been longing for today (FRIDAY, MAY 26, 2000) with the announcement that Javier Artero has signed from Argentinian outfit San Lorenzo for a club record £300,000. By securing the 26-year-old midfielder, who was being closely monitored by a host of other clubs, on a three-year deal, Dundee has given yet another indication that their Premier League ambitions are set far above mere top-flight survival. The club believes Javier Artero can play a key role in realising Dundee's aspirations to establish itself as the third force in Scottish football and make European competitions a regular fixture at Dens Park. Javier was in outstanding form during his initial three-month contract at Dens Park.
Ivano Bonetti will take Dundee to play his former side Grimsby Town as part of the pre-season build up. The match will take place at Blundell Park on Friday, 21st of July with a 7.30 kick off.
The JMB Dark Blues may be running a bus to the game with an overnight stay planned - although hopefully not in Grimsby itself as the place is a total dive.
The Somerset Park club plan to make a big push for promotion this season and have made the out-of-contract striker one of their top targets.
Manager Gordon Dalziel has been involved in negotiations with the player’s agent Raymond Sparkes over the last few days and it is understood he made it clear he is prepared to meet both Grady’s wage demands and his request for a three-year deal.
And with the Dark Blues still to come back to him with a concrete offer, it appears the 29-year-old could soon be on his way.
"Ayr are the favourites to get me at the moment," Grady admitted last night.
"Given the choice of identical packages from them and Dundee I would probably stay put, but that is not the situation I am in at the moment.
"It is disappointing because I keep hearing the club are signing this player, then the next, but still they have not come back to me.
"That suggests that I am not top of their priorities. I have to look out for myself and that could mean heading south."
James Grady looks to be on the verge of a move to first division Ayr United.
Moves aimed at clearing the way for the new management team to take over at Dundee in advance of pre-season training starting at the end of next month have begun.
The Dens Park board are looking to strike a deal with Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone which would lead to them leaving the club before their contracts expire on July 9 and allow Ivano and Dario Bonetti to move in more quickly than is possible at present.
It is understood that talks between the parties, albeit through legal representatives, are now under way.
Artero’s representatives, Jorge Lera Astofili and Steve Archibald, were due in Scotland last night to discuss the situation face-to-face with Dundee directors.
Artero’s Argentinian club San Lorenzo originally slapped a £500,000 price tag on the player but have since shown a willingness to reduce their demands, raising hopes agreement can be reached.
"We are reasonably optimistic that a deal can be done," revealed a Dens Park insider.
Astofili and Archibald also represent Francisco Luna, whom the club would also like to hold on to.
But attempts to land Luna-who would cost a prohibitive £600,000 from Sporting Gijon-are being put on the back burner until Artero’s future is settled.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that Patrizio Billio suffered a slight dislocation of his left elbow against Aberdeen at the weekend.
The club should have a clearer idea of whether they can secure the services of Javier Artero on a permanent basis by later today.
WED 24RD MAY
Hard on the heels of news that Georgian international Georgi Nemsadze will join the club next season comes word that Vitesse Arnhem’s Marco de Marchi will become Bonetti’s second signing.
The 33-year-old Italian central defender, who has played for Bologna, Juventus and AS Roma, is reported to have agreed a three-year deal with the Dark Blues. However, the signing won’t be formally concluded until Bonetti officially takes over.
De Marchi, who arrives under the Bosman ruling, is expected to link up with his new team-mates for pre-season training next month.
A club spokesman would today confirm only that talks between Bonetti and the player had taken place. But he added that the new manager was confident of securing De Marchi’s services.
Dundee boss Ivano Bonetti is set to add another new face to the growing band of foreign imports at Dens Park.

Dundee are keen to keep Spanish loan stars Javier Artero and Fransisco Luna next season but fear they could be priced out of a deal for the latter player.
The Dens Park board are currently in negotiations with the players' agent Jorge Lera Astofili and are hoping to tie up the pair on long-term contracts.
But while Artero's Argentinian club San Lorenzo are looking for a nominal fee, Sporting Gijon are demanding almost £600,000 for striker Luna.
The Spanish outfit would have to drop their valuation for Dundee to be interested in signing the player despite him being a hit with the club since his arrival in March.
Luna scored four goals as Dundee finished the season on a high and new manager Ivano Bonetti will be looking to hang on to the best players.
But Sporting Gijon chairman Juan Manuel Perez said: "We have already received a few offers from other clubs in Spain, but we are waiting for Dundee.
"Dundee still have first option as we have an agreement to sell for £600,000, but we haven't heard anything yet from them."
Midfielder Artero has flown home more confident of returning and has made it clear he wants to stay in Scotland next season.
Artero said on leaving the city: "I am not sure yet what will happen but I am very happy with Dundee and it's supporters and I hope there will be no problem with me returning in July. My agent is having talks with the club and I hope things can be sorted out."
The player is currently under contract to Argentinean side San Lorenzo, and as he had only been there eight months before falling out with them, a transfer fee will be demanded.
A Dundee spokesman said: "Negotiations are going on at the moment between the club and the players' agent. We'll have to wait and see what comes out of those discussions."
Dundee are still in negotiations with three players over contracts for next season.
The Dark Blues are holding talks with James Grady, as well as Spanish pair Francisco Luna and Javier Artero.
The 29-year-old wants a three-year deal, which he can get elsewhere, while the Dens board have so far offered him a two-year contract.
What I would point out to Jamsie is that although 3 can get a 3 year deal elsewhere the grass is not always greener on the other side - look at Dave Rogers - last season the club offered him a one year deal - he accepted a two year deal from Ayr United only to be sold by them to Partick Thistle and is now plying histrade in the 2nd Division.
Grady himself hopes his future can be settled this week and has admitted his preferred option is to stay a Dundee player.
The negotiations with Luna and Artero may take more time, and both are due to return to Spain this week. Before he flies out Artero will have his injured toe examined again - it is feared he has broken a bone.
Strikers Eddie Annand and Tommy Coyne have both been told they are free to seek new clubs.

Last week Peter Marr Stated that "A number of top quality European Internationals will be wearing the Dark Blue next season".
We top borrow a well known phrase from Chick Young "I can exclusively reveal" that one of the Top Internationalists that will be arriving at Dens in the next few weeks is none other than Italian International Roberto Mancini who is currently with newly crowned Serie A champions Lazio.
Remember that this site first announced back in December that Mancini was in the frame for a position at Dens.
Rumours also persist that he may be joined by current Lazio teamate Attilo Lombardo.
SUN 21ST MAY
The 24-year-old Argentinean said last night: "I've met Dario Magri before and hopefully he remembers me and I would be willing to talk to him if he agrees."
Magri is the cousin of new coach Ivano Bonetti, and he's now acting as the middle man between management and staff at Dens Park.
Although he would like to come to Dens, I doubt that he is good enough for the quality of player that we are trying to attract to the club for next season.
Aberdeen reject Juan Cobian has told Dundee he's available and he would welcome a move to join the Dens Park side next season.
He was surprisingly released by Ebbe Skovdahl after a series of injures, but there's no doubting his ability.
he can sign on Bosman, clubs like St Johnstone and Kilmarnock can afford to take a risk.
He scored over 30 goals in his three seasons and that's without being a first-team regular for many of Dundee's games, and will find no trouble in getting picked up as a bargain buy.
Whether managers Sandy Clark and Bobby Williamson see that is entirely up to them, but no offer has been rejected by Annand as he looks around.
Eddie Annand has been linked with a move to St Johnstone, but Killie and Ayr are also interested in the freed striker.
But the good news for Dundee fans is that he will definitely be returning to Dens - not just because close pal Ivano Bonetti is taking over as manager-and would consider extending his existing contract, which has a year to run.
Billio has been linked with a permanent return to his homeland to play for Perugia, however he claimed yesterday that his ambitions lie in helping Dundee secure European football next season.
"I will be spending the next five weeks-first in Riccione and then in Sardinia, where I have a house-resting and relaxing," he said.
"I am looking forward to that because although I do not consider playing football to be hard work, as it is so enjoyable, it is mentally draining.
"But I am sure that I will be back when pre-season training starts.
"I have found a good place to stay and I like the supporters here, and that is important for my football, because if I am feeling good it helps me to play well.
"I really like Scotland and Scottish people.
"I did not enjoy my time at Crystal Palace. My English is only so-so and I did not have a good relationship with the people in England.
"Perhaps I was unlucky in the club I went to but, for sure, the people here are very polite, willing to help me make myself understood and generally assist me to integrate.
"I appreciate this and want to repay the welcome I have had by doing well for Dundee.
"It is not about who is manager for me because I think I have a good relationship with the gaffer (Jocky Scott)," he continued.
"With my being Italian some people think I know everything about the Bonettis.
"But, while it is true that they are actually friends of mine, it will be different when they come to the club because then they will be my coaches and our relationship will change."
"I have read some newspapers in which people have said this is a gamble but I do not see it that way because Ivano is, having played 15 years in Serie A, long on experience and so, too, is Dario.
"And I believe Peter Marr is too clever to make a mistake over this.
"If people show patience the new management team will be successful, I think.
"I know Peter wants a UEFA Cup place, and I think that is not impossible because this can be a good team, which is another reason for my not being interested in going back to Italy."
Billio revealed Marr has sounded him out about extending his stay at Dens.
"We spoke four months ago but nothing has developed since then when I was told the club might be interested in prolonging my contract," he said.
"However, I am thinking only about playing football and nothing else. If other teams are interested in me that’s good, and if Dundee want to give me a longer contract then we will speak, but neither situation bothers me."
Tomorrow’s home meeting with Aberdeen brings the curtain down on the season and, of course, Scott’s tenure as manager.
But he is determined the focus won’t be entirely on himself and assistant Jimmy Bone, who is also leaving the club.
"The players have a lot to play for regardless of the fact it is the last time Jimmy and I will be in charge," said Scott.
"It is our final game here, but not theirs, and it is so much nicer to come back after the summer break having finished the previous season on a high note.
"There are plenty of incentives to win on Sunday.
"Firstly, it would be great to keep the run of victories going. Secondly, the boys have bonus money as well as pride to play for.
"And, finally, it would be nice to get a monkey off our back given we haven’t beaten Aberdeen here for so many years (not since 1988, and only twice in 25 years)."
But Scott did admit thoughts of his departure are likely to enter his mind.
"When you work at a club for as long as I have done-regardless of whether you have left and returned or, like Mo (Malpas) down the road, your time has been continuous-you get a feel for the place," he said.
"It will be a wrench to leave but I think it would have been harder if I were leaving under my own accord.
"The way in which things have transpired has made it easier for me to walk out the door."
The Dark Blues are unlikely to include Javier Artero (foot problem) in their line-up but Steven Tweed trained and should be OK.
Craig Ireland, a long-term absentee, has had the results of a scan on his injury, with a bruise on the bone of his kneecap being the diagnosis.
Patrizio Billio is returning to Italy immediately the season ends tonight.
Billio does admit, though, to believing the Bonetti brothers will surprise the doubters and prove themselves a hit in the SPL.
"If they want to come to me and make an offer I would be interested.

GEORGIAN CAPTAIN SIGNS
New Dundee manager Ivano Bonetti has lined up his first signing. The man set to join the Dens Park club is Georgian international captain Georgi Nemsadze.
The 28-year-old, who has made 49 appearances for his country, has agreed in principle to sign a three-year contract and will meet his new teammates for the first time when pre-season training gets under way.
He admitted yesterday, though, that he sees linking up with the Dark Blues as a stepping stone to a move across the Border.
"I am looking forward to joining my new team in early July but I would love to play in the English Premier League some day," commented Nemsadze.
The once £1.5 million-rated Nemsadze, who was formerly with Grasshoppers Zurich, has played for four different teams in Georgia (Lokomotiv Tblisi), Russia and Ukraine since last November.
He had been without a club after leaving Reggiana in the summer of 1999 following their relegation from Italy’s Serie A.
Two months ago he played a trial for Hibs, turning out for their under-21 side against Kilmarnock.
Subsequently he was watched by Easter Road number two Andy Watson in an international against Israel.
But he played sweeper that day and Hibs boss Alex McLeish dropped his interest in the player on the grounds that he had not learned enough about him to warrant meeting his financial demands.
"Dundee FC can confirm that it is confident of securing the services of Georgi Nemsadze," confirmed a club spokesman. "Terms are close to being agreed.
"However, the deal will not be formally concluded until the new manager takes up his post."
MCSKIMMING COULD FACE DONS
Midfielder Shaun McSkimming could be fit enough to face Aberdeen on Sunday but may not figure.McSkimming has not played since damaging a hamstring against Celtic a month ago.
Dark Blues manager Jocky Scott revealed yesterday, "Although Shaun is back in training he has been out quite a while and to play him would be a risk."
INJURY DOUBTS
Certain to be missing when the curtain comes down on the season-not to mention Scott’s reign-are crocked pair Craig Ireland and Nicky Banger, while Steven Tweed (hamstring and knee injuries) and Javier Artero (toe) are rated doubtful."Neither of them is training at the moment and both are causing us concern at this stage," said Scott.
"However, Artero says he is hopeful of making it and with the game being on Sunday there is time yet for them to recover."
HUDDERSFIELD FOR DENS
Dundee have received the offer of a pre-season friendly against Huddersfield at Dens Park.It is unclear whether that will be taken up but the Dark Blues will play English opposition as part of their build-up to next term as new boss Ivano Bonetti has arranged to meet his old club Grimsby at Blundell Park.

BONETTI SIGNING TARGET
Reports suggest that new boss Ivano Bonetti could be set to make his former Grimsby teammate Johnny Walker his first signing.Walker has recently completed a spell at Greenock Morton, and Bonetti is said to be keen on joining up once more with the former Rangers man. The player himself is also believed to be keen on a move to Dundee.

GIJON WANT FEE FOR LUNA
Sporting Gijon are reported to be looking for a fee in the region of £600,000 for on loan striker Luna, even though the striker is out of favour at his Spanish club.
BILLIO DISMISSES PERUGIA MOVE
Pat Billio has been tipped to be on his travels with a report in one paper speculating that he would soon he heading back to Italy to join Perugia. The Italian midfielder admitted yesterday that he had heard talk they might be interested in him but added that had been about a month ago and there had been nothing since.
He also added that he is looking forward to playing under his old friend Ivano Bonetti.
GRADY WANTS TO STAY
James Grady is ready to sign himself up for the Dens Park revolution-provided the price is right.Out of contract in the summer, he finds himself in the happy position of being a wanted man.
In addition to his current employers, St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Ayr United are all keen to have him playing for them next season and have been in contact with his agent accordingly to note their interest.
Grady’s preference is to stay put but with the Dark Blues’ board still to come back to him with an improved offer, he admits he is unsure what the future holds for him.
"I love it here at Dundee and nothing would please me more then getting a new deal sorted out to keep me here for another couple of years," he said.
"The new manager, Ivano Bonetti, appears to have exciting plans for the club and if he can deliver on them then I would certainly want to be involved.
"The fact is, though, I have to consider all the offers that are made to me because I have my financial security to think about.
"I am 29 years old now, not 21, and at a stage of my career where my next contract is an extremely important one.
"It is a bit unsettling because I would really like to have everything in place before I go on my summer holidays, though it is nice to have people after you at a time when so many players are coming on the market.
"I do feel that I have proved I can score goals in the SPL and am confident I can continue doing so for a wee while to come." The visit of Hibs to Dens Park tomorrow afternoon will provide the forward with another chance to advertise his well-being following his derby score against United last weekend. It is an opportunity he intends to take.
"Obviously the more goals I score the more bargaining chips I have, so yes it is an extra motivation," he said.
"I say extra because I always try to do best any time I run onto a football pitch. The season may be finished but people will be paying good money to come and see us and we have a duty to try and entertain them as much as possible.
"For Jocky’s sake, too, we have to try and finish the season as strongly as we can. He has been really good with us and we don’t want his stay to end on a flat note."
ANNAND ON WAY OUT
With Francisco Luna likely to miss out after failing to train all week because of a groin strain, Eddie Annand could be returned to the starting line-up.Like Grady he is also due to reach the end of his current contract in the summer and again like Grady he has been linked with moves to the west with Ayr and Killie also among his admirers.
He has admitted that his time at Dens is coming to an end as he has been out of the first team picture since christmas and has not been offered a new deal even though his contract ends in just 3 weeks.
This coupled with the fact that he is one of the least popular players at Dens with the Fans who more often than not recently has been booed onto the park when coming on as a sub.
SAT 13TH MAY
LUNA DOUBTFUL
Jocky Scott could be without striker Francisco Luna as the Spaniard struggles to overcome a groin problem.Luna suffered the injury in last weeks derby victory over Dundee United and looks a major doubt for the game. On the other hand Steven Tweed is confirmed as being fit following a knee problem.
Jocky is looking forward to the game and hopes his players can emulate their performance last week. He said: "One of the things which has let us down this season has been our lack of consistency and it would be nice to change that, particularly on the back of last week's success at Dens Park.
Victory over Hibs would see the Dees rise to 6th in the League and more importantly above the Arabs.

DUNDEE FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT
Dundee Football Club can today confirm the appointments of Ivano and Dario Bonetti as manager and assistant manager at the Dens Park club.Between them the Brescia-born Bonettis have more than thirty years playing experience at top club level, along side some of the biggest names in world soccer.
While both are still learning their trade as club coaches, they have taken on three-year deals with Dundee, confident that they can draw on the knowledge and experience gained from playing at the very highest level under the finest European coaches.
They have won two Italian League Championships, 2 Super Cups, 1 Intercontinental Cup, 1 UEFA Cup, and 4 Italian Cups between them. Dario has also been capped at international level.
Ivano (35) has played for Brescia, Genoa, Atalanta, Bologna, Juventus, Sampdoria, Grimsby and Tranmere in a playing career spanning 18 seasons. Dario (38) played for Brescia, Roma, Verona, Milan, Juventus and Sampdoria.
Ivano today said that he and his brother were tremendously excited to be joining Dundee Football Club.
''We are very enthusiastic about the job ahead of us. Dario and I have been impressed by the attitude of the Dundee board. They are ambitious and determined to achieve success for this club.
''We have been watching the Scottish game for a number of years now, and monitoring the fortunes of Dundee throughout this season.
"While there are some people who are quick to criticise Dundee's ambition, I see absolutely no reason why this club should not establish itself among the top three clubs in the country."
The new management and coaching staff will seek to implement the training regimes that have made Italian football the envy of other football nations. While new players will be introduced to the club, some from the continent, the new management team recognise that Dundee's flourishing youth set-up provides the foundations for the future.
"I am aware there is great potential within the existing playing squad, especially among the youngsters, and we will seek to make the most of that.
''We are not interested in spending lots of money on unnecessary foreign signings, or establishing a United Nations football team at Dens Park. However, it is our intention of sign a number of experienced European professionals who will help to bring balance to the side and bring the youth players through.''
In their first steps into a coaching career, Ivano has been assisting Dario at Sestrese over the past year. During that time the team, who were faltering until the Bonettis stepped in, have narrowly missed out on promotion, but earned the plaudits for having the tightest defence in all of Italy.
''Questions have been raised about our lack of coaching experience and, unfortunately, some of that criticism has bordered on ridicule. We accept that, because we are replacing a man who has a worked within the Scottish game all of his life.
"But Dario and I have worked under a lot of successful managers within teams who have enjoyed success at the very highest level. We will be judged by what happens on the pitch.
"All our careers we have worked within winning environments, among the best professionals in the sport. Success and a will to win are what has driven us forward all of these years. Now we want to put to work at Dundee what we have learned along the way.''
The brothers have played under world-renowned coaches, including Trappatoni, Zoff, Maldini, Boskov, Capello, Ericcson and Vicini. Equally, they count some of the greatest stars the game has seen as former colleagues. Platini, Vialli, Conti, Baresi, Van Basten, Gullit, Mancini, to name but a few.
Current members of the Dundee coaching staff - Billy Thomson and Ray Farningham as well as youth development co-ordinator Kenny Cameron will not be affected by the managerial changes.
The club can also confirm that former Roma defender Enzo Romano will also be joining Dundee as the fitness coach.
Dario Magri will join the club as co-ordinator - forming a link between the new management team, the playing staff and the Board of Directors.
''There is a lot of hard work ahead for the players and ourselves as we seek to marry the Scottish footballing mentality with a European one.
''Change will not come overnight, although it is important that we satisfy the loyal Dundee support. We are here for three years and look forward to exciting times and offering the fans quality football along the way.''

IVANO DEAL NOT YET SIGNED
Morning reports claim that Peter Marr's attempts to sign Ivano Bonetti could be hit with a snag as another Italian side are keen to get him.Bresia who are currently 2nd in Seria B with 5 games remaining are poised to offer him a deal as boss.
But that's unlikely as the player revealed he has already been at Ibrox to see his pal Patrizio Bilio in action and he is about to fly into Tayside for a look around Dundee.
He'll arrive alongside his brother Dario, and said last night from his home in Genoa: "At the moment, nothing is official.
"There are a few things to be sorted out. I went to the match at Ibrox and enjoyed the game and the party afterwards.
"But it's too early to say anything about Dundee. My situation must be clear before I do that."
DUNDEE BOARD MUST BACK AMBITION WITH HARD CASH, SAYS SCOTT
Dundee directors will need to back their ambition with hard cash if the club is ever to become a third force in Scottish football, Jocky Scott has predicted. The Dark Blues boss, who was told on Monday that he is not to be offered a new contract when his current deal runs out on July 9, is still coming to terms with the prospect of his imminent unemployment.
However, while he is diplomatic on the subject of his successors-the Bonetti brothers Ivano and Dario, commenting only that time will be tell if they are better qualified to run the club than himself and Jimmy Bone-he does question whether the board's aspirations are realistic.
"I read their statement, all the stuff about finishing high enough up the table to be involved in European football season after season and of eventually aiming to become a third force in the Scottish game," he said.
"All I can say is if that's to happen then a lot of money will have to be put into the club-and I mean a significant amount.
"I have tallied the figures up and, by my reckoning in the two and a bit years I have been here, I have only spent £210,000.
"In my opinion, you are going to need to spend quite a bit more than that to mount a consistent challenge to the teams in the top half of the table.
"We played Hearts recently and when I counted it up nearly every player in their side was an internationalist at either full or under-21 level. "That is a guide to the level you are talking about. You don't always need money to get quality players but you need experience as well as ability and invariably you have to pay for it.
"Recently we have been lucky enough to get guys into the international scene- people like Gavin Rae, Lee Wilkie and Robert Douglas. "That is great but they are all still learning the game and when everything is tallied up I think you have to say we are a long way behind Hearts when it comes to the respective strength of playing squads."
All of which, Scott believes, only makes some of the results achieved over the last two seasons all the more remarkable-a fact he conveyed to his players in a special meeting yesterday.
"I had a chat with the guys and thanked them for all their efforts," he said. "They have been magnificent for me, the character and attitude they have shown has never been less than first class.
"What has happened is not their fault and it is important they got on with things and continue to give their best in what remains of the season.
"Managers losing their jobs is a fact of life in Scottish football. They know that and know they have their own careers to consider." The departing boss will continue to take interest in the development of the young players at Dens-of whom he has particularly high hopes for Gavin Rae and Lee Wilkie.
"They are all talented lads who, I believe, have the chance to play at a lot higher level some day. All being well, I would hope they could go on to play for Scotland."
Of more pressing concern to Scott is where he will be working next season with nothing ruled in and nothing ruled out. "I am too young to retire so I am open to offers. A couple of agents have already been on to me, so my CV will be winging around England and the rest of the world as we speak," he said.
"The situation is pretty tight in Scotland for there are an awful lot of talented coaches currently looking for work but my kids are grown up now so its not like I am tied to this country any more."
Meanwhile the new head coach is set to visit his new club within the next few days. But it seems Dundee are looking for Scott to see out his contract because the Bonettis aren't in a position to take over at the moment.
"I have still to speak to more people before this is official but hopefully I will be in Scotland before the end of this week," Ivano confirmed from his home near Genoa.
"I still need to clear my situation here, however."
Explaining why he will be joined at Dens by older brother Dario, he said, "If we do anything we do it together-that is the way we work." If Bonetti does arrive this week it will be a quick-fire return to Scotland for he was across here quite recently.
It emerged yesterday that Bonetti was in Glasgow just 10 days ago watching his new side crash 3-0 to Rangers at Ibrox, although he claims the purpose of that visit was to watch pal Patrizio Billio playing for the Dark Blues.
Billio will have another familiar face coming to join him at the club. Dario Magri, the man who helped facilitate his transfer from Crystal Palace to Dundee and Ivano Bonetti's one-time translator, has been confirmed as part of the new management team.
Yesterday, though, he diplomatically declined to comment on the situation saying it was not his place.
Fans chief Norrie Price, meanwhile, admitted the supporters have mixed feelings-sympathy for Scott but also excitement over the ambition being shown by the club.
"First and foremost we are supporters but we also appreciate the contribution of the manager and particularly one who is a Dens Park legend," he said.
"It's disappointing for Jocky. I have known him since the mid 80s and I'd hoped he would've been allowed to stay on and work with new players.
"But it is the board's prerogative and if they feel this is the way they want to go it is up to them.
"At the last association meeting we had, we spoke about how we would support any Dundee manager but also, if the club was moving in the right direction, the board-and the club has moved in the right direction since the Marrs took over.
"Only time will tell if the decision that has been taken regarding the manager is the right one but increasingly clubs are looking outwith Scotland for managers and it is an angle that could be beneficial.
"Dundee have every right to be ambitious. Why should we be content to finish ninth?
"Luna, Artero and Billio have been absolutely superb signings for Dundee and if the entertainment value provided by these three guys is the shape of things to come we'll be happy.
"Twice as many fans as United on Saturday shows that people are coming back to see these guys."
IVANO - "I WATCHED MY BOYS AT IBROX 10 DAYS AGO"
New coach Ivano Bonetti last night revealed he has already had a sneak preview of his new club when he watched them play Rangers 10 days ago.But the former Sampdoria star insisted it is far too early to come to any conclusions about the players he will inherit.
The Italian disclosed he was at Ibrox with girlfriend Erika to watch his mate Patrizio Billio.
Yesterday Billio found himself the most in-demand player at Dens Park as his team-mates tapped him for information.
Bonetti's arrival came as no huge surprise to the players as departing manager Jocky Scott had warned he was "99 per cent" certain to be leaving after suffering a clear lack of backing from the board.
The Italian, who is set to take over along with brother Dario, is expected to fly to Scotland before the end of the week.
Speaking from Genoa, he said: "At the moment it is not official. There are a few things to be sorted out.
"But if things go well I should be in Scotland this week.
"I went to the match at Ibrox because I wanted to watch my friend Patrizio Billio playing and I enjoyed the game. "I also enjoyed the party afterwards.
"But it is too early to say something about Dundee. My situation must be clear before I do that." Bonetti played down the fact that he is expected to come to Dundee as No.1 whereas he is assistant to brother Dario at Sestrese, who are in Italy's Fifth Division.
He said: "Wherever Dario and I go we work together as a team. But I need to have more talks before I can say any more."
Billio - whose transfer to Dens Park was arranged by agent Dario Magri, the Bonettis' cousin - spent the time before training filling his mates in on the surprise choice.
Striker James Grady, one of the heroes of last weekend's 3-0 derby win over city rivals United, admitted there was a strange mixture of emotions at the club yesterday.
He said: "The boys were upset about what happened but the gaffer wasn't here in the morning because he was at the funeral of the father of one of the young players.
"Jimmy Bone took training instead and he stressed it was business as usual and he wanted the usual professional approach.
"But Jocky came in afterwards and he thanked us for everything we had done for the club.
"It was upsetting but the gaffer had already told us a month ago that it was 99 per cent certain he'd be off at the end of the season.
"From that point of view we knew it was on the cards and that lessened the blow. It also helps that he's staying until the end of the season.
We know we can still finish fifth in the league and we would like to send Jocky off on a high."
Grady admitted the players are playing a waiting game as they count down the hours until the arrival of the Bonetti brothers who are being brought in by the club's other pair of brothers, directors Peter and Jimmy Marr.
And despite the briefing from Billio, the Italian pair remain something of a mystery to their new squad.
Grady admitted: "At first we just heard that we were getting Italian- speaking coaches and that didn't really help much because we thought it might be a Yugoslav coach who spoke Italian.
"Now we'll just see what happens.
"I've heard of Ivano more than Dario because he played in English football.
"And everyone knows about the fight at Grimsby. That's intrigued everyone, although we don't know an awful lot more." That's why Billio was the man everyone wanted to talk to yesterday.
The Dens players are also winding up the midfielder by pondering if he will be given special treatment when Bonetti finally arrives. Grady said: "Pat was telling us that Ivano is a good friend of his and is a friendly sort of guy.
"He's going to help translate for the coach when he gets here because his own English is getting better all the time."
Grady and the other players at Dens know that Bonetti will come in with definite plans and that there will be some uncertainty as a result.
The striker has already been linked with Kilmarnock along with team-mate Eddie Annand but he knows another deal will be on the table at Dens. He said: "The new coach will have his own ideas and we'll have a better idea of where we are when he arrives.
"It remains to be seen whether he'll change training and things like that.
"As for myself, the talks are ongoing and I know that a contract will be offered."
The whole managerial upheaval at the club means that Grady has not yet been able to revel in the kudos which undoubtedly await him from the Dark Blues fans in the city following the record-breaking 3-0 win over United.
He said: "It was big Robert Douglas's stag night down in Lanark after the game so we didn't see any of the fans after the game.
"But Barry Smith was at a player of the year dinner and I don't think he had to buy a drink all night."
Grady made a huge impact on the derby after appearing as a second- half sub, scoring and playing a part in both Willie Falconer goals.
He said: "I hope I keep my place because we all want to send Jocky off with a couple of wins."
NEVIN RATES BONETTI
PAT NEVIN reckons former Tranmere team-mate Ivano Bonetti can meet the challenge at Dundee. The Italian midfielder took the Motherwell chief executive's place at Prenton Park and Nevin thinks he can still play at the highest level.
Nevin said: "Ivano was very talented. He has played for top clubs in Italy and his play and fitness were exceptional. He kept his body in good condition and he can hack it at the top level in Scotland."

RUMOURS RUMOURS RUMOURS
On the injury front, Shaun McSkimming and Craig Ireland are still struggling, while Francisco Luna, taken off at half-time against United, did not train today.Steven Tweed, who also came off injured on Saturday, was in for treatment yesterday and will continue with that today.
Meanwhile, following hard on yesterday's revelation that the Dark Blues team next season will be run by Italian brothers Ivano and Dario Bonetti, it has emerged that a third Italian will join the new coaching team.
Ivano will be head coach, but his brother will not be his No. 2.
That appointment will go to another Italian, Dario Magri, who has had coaching experience in England with Crystal Palace.

SOME EMAILS THAT HAVE BEEN SENT INTO THE SITE RECENTLY ALEDGE THE FOLLOWING:
peter marr admitted in the drumgeith tonight jocky is going to tannadice in the summer and is being replaced by an italian.
look out for at least 4 new signings , the dees are after the captain of
croatia and a couple of swedish internationalists.
I HAVE HEARD FROM A CONTACT INSIDE DENS PARK THAT JOCKYS LEAVING PARTY FOR
PLAYERS AND STAFF IS ON OR AROUND 20TH MAY . ALSO HE HAS
BEEN ASKED BY THEM ACROSS THE ROAD TO JOIN THE COACHING STAFF,ALL THIS FROM A
GUY THAT SHOULD KNOW
A Scouse friend I work with lives next door to 'one of his own' in
Invergowrie who just happens to be a young Dark Blues fringe player.
I have written regarding rumours over Jocky Scott`s future.
As you can see some of the rumours have come true - so lets hope the one about the Croatian and Swedes is true!
Said player has revealed that the squad all know that Jocky & Jimmy will be
out at the end of the season and most out-of-contract players too!
Apparently the teutonic one has already lined up TWELVE players who he wants
to see at Dens Park next season including some of the Marr-inspired loan
signings.
I have been told that Jocky Scott does know he will be leaving at the end of the season. Apparently a member of jocky`s wider family, i.e. not immediate, admitted the fact. He said that it has been made clear to jocky that he does not have a future at dens after this season. As far as he seems to be concerned everything is done and dusted.
WHAT THE PAPERS ARE SAYING!
The following stories are whats being said in the various papers today following the replacement of Jocky and Jimmy with the Bonnetti.Remember that it was way back on 3rd December last year that this Website first announced Bonnetti as a candidate for the Job!!!!
The Courier has gone with the headline "Dundee to Copy Vialli"
Dundee are to follow Chelsea's lead in appointing an Italian player-coach.
The man who will attempt to do the kind of job for the Dark Blues that Gianluca Vialli has done at Stamford Bridge is Ivano Bonetti (35), a former Sampdoria teammate of Vialli's who is presently player/ assistant manager of Sestrese in Italy's fifth division.
The identity of Jocky Scott's successor emerged yesterday after the Dens board at last confirmed Scott and his number two Jimmy Bone will not have their contracts renewed when these expire on July 9.
The new set-up will be a family affair for Bonetti, who will be assisted by his brother Dario (38), who is presently in charge at Sestrese. The club have just missed out on promotion to Serie C (2).
Although the pair are coming from a relatively humble coaching background, their football pedigree in a playing sense is first rate, having between them spent 21 seasons playing in Serie A.
Winger Ivano's top-flight career began in 1981 at Brescia where he spent three years before moving on to Genoa.
He then spent three seasons on the books of Juventus, for whom he made just 18 appearances. He moved on to Bologna, Sampdoria and Bologna again before making five appearances for Torino during the 1994-95 season.
During his career in Serie A he won two Italian league titles, one Super Cup, a World Club Championship (for Juventus when he replaced Michel Platini against Argentinos). He also appeared in a European Cup final.
From Torino, in September 1995, the flamboyant Bonetti moved to English first division outfit Grimsby, where he became something of a cult hero. But his stay at Blundell Park ended amid acrimony following a dressing room bust-up with manager Brian Laws in February 96, which left him requiring 12 stitches to a facial wound and surgery for a broken cheekbone.
Bonetti later received an out-of-court settlement from Laws but though he returned to action after missing 19 matches he was never the same player. He moved on to Tranmere Rovers and then Crystal Palace, where he saw just 50 minutes' action, before joining Serie B outfit Genoa.
In the summer of 97 he fronted a bid to buy Grimsby which failed and last year a similar attempt to take over Hull City also foundered.
Brother Dario also started his playing career at Brescia before spending five seasons with Roma-playing for them against Dundee United in the European Cup-as well as having two years at Verona and featuring for AC Milan, Juventus and Sampdoria.
During his playing career he won four Italian Cups, one Super Cup and one UEFA Cup. He appeared also in two European Cup finals.
The Bonettis, whose cousin Dario Magri co-ordinated the signing by Dundee of Patrizio Billio from Crystal Palace, for whom he works, have already seen their new club in action this season.
They took in the city derby at Tannadice on December 12 -and in fact met Jocky Scott that evening. The match in question was staged more than a month prior to the directors actually offering Scott a new deal. However, the pair were there, it seems, representing a group attempting to buy over an Italian club and interested in forging links with the Dark Blues.
"As it was a night game we trained at Dens and had a meal there before going down the road," recalled Scott last night.
"I was introduced to Ivano Bonetti as someone who had played in England and was now in the process, along with a consortium, of taking over an Italian first division side that was going for promotion.
"I was told he was interested in forging links between the team in Italy and a Scottish club and was looking at Dundee in that light."
Bonetti was actually linked with attempting-in conjunction with fellow Serie A performers Attilio Lombardo and Roberto Mancini-to buy out the Marr brothers late last year. The Italians' interest was vehemently denied by Dundee at the time. And according to Dens sources the Bonettis are becoming actively involved now on a coaching basis only.
Dundee were yesterday refusing to comment on the identity of Scott's replacement other than to confirm he would likely be a foreigner.
The head coach in waiting, speaking from his base near Genoa, was also being cagey.
"We are talking to Dundee but it is premature to say that everything has been agreed," he commented.
However, I understand the deal to bring the Bonettis to Tayside has been sealed and the official announcement of their appointment should be made at a Press conference before the week is out, albeit they may not be available to take charge immediately.
The news that he and Bone had no future at the club beyond July 9-which came as no great surprise to anyone -was confirmed to Scott at 11am yesterday.
The decision had been finalised last Friday but was to have been kept under wraps for at least a week, to allow chief executive Peter Marr to return from Spain to take charge of its implementation.
However, Courier Sport's revelation yesterday that an Italian coach was to replace Scott prompted them to act immediately. The meeting between chairman Jimmy Marr and commercial director Jim Connor and the current management team was short and sharp.
"Obviously anyone losing their job would be hurt and upset and that was the reaction from both Jocky and Jimmy," confirmed Jimmy Marr.
"We, the directors, all like Jocky and that combined with the fact it is always difficult ending someone's employment makes this a sad day. I hope both of them get other jobs.
"But everything we do as a board is done in what we see as the best interests of the club."
Marr indicated the directors are looking for the pair to work on until their deals end.
"We hope they will see out the remainder of their contracts but the only indication we have as to whether they will is Jocky saying as he left today that he would see us tomorrow," he commented.
The positions of the surviving members of the coaching staff-Billy Thomson and Ray Farningham, along with youth development chief Kenny Cameron-look to be secure, not least of all because they still have two years left to run on their contracts but also because the board value the part they have played in laying foundations for the future.
Jocky Scott insisted last night that-however his employers might want to present the course of action they had taken in ending his tenure as manager-he had been dismissed.
"I am angry, frustrated and very disappointed about the whole situation,"
"Jimmy and I were informed this morning that they will not be renewing our contracts, end of story, with no reason given as to why.
"And as far as I am concerned I have been sacked.
"As a football manager, of course, that is always likely to happen.
"But there is a right way to go about sacking someone and several wrong ways and it is the manner in which this has been done that is particularly annoying.
"This could have been done weeks ago but wasn't and it has become the worst-kept secret in Dundee.
"I have, because of the vibes I was getting and things I was hearing were going on behind my back, known for some time what was going to happen.
"I just wish they (the board) had been honest with me.
"But the only reason they've acted is because of today's story in The Courier that I was being replaced by an Italian coach."
As to how much longer he would continue to act as manager-his current deal runs until July 9 but the Bonetti brothers are expected to attend a Press conference at Dens within the next 72 hours-Scott would not be drawn.
"Jimmy and I will be there tomorrow but beyond that all I can say is we'll be taking things daily," he said.
Scott's fate being confirmed came less than 48 hours after he led Dundee to their first home win over United in 11 years. There will be considerable sympathy for him throughout Scottish football.
Even the Dens board, in announcing their departure, acknowledged that Scott and Bone had done a fine job.
Indeed the official statement issued on their behalf hinted that the pair were, in effect, victims of their own achievement in establishing the Dark Blues as a fixture in the SPL.
"There is no doubt that both men have been instrumental in taking this club forward to the point where everyone's aspirations surpass mere Premier League survival," it read.
"The decision not to proceed with the current management team is no reflection on the abilities of either man. Nor should it be interpreted that the directors felt that the manager and his assistant had achieved all that they could for Dundee.
"The records of Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone speak for themselves. But the unanimous decision of the board is that a change of direction at management level is the desired option."
Chris Roberts of sporting-life.com goes with "SCOTT "ANGRY" AT DUNDEE EXIT"
Jocky Scott accused the Dundee board of betraying him by leaving him in the dark for months before eventually telling him his services were no longer required as manager.
Speculation about Scott's future has been fierce in recent weeks and the Dens Park club finally confirmed they will not be renewing his contract when it expires on July 9.
The Dundee board, headed by owners the Marr brothers Jimmy and Peter, issued a lengthy explanation for their actions which made clear they felt their ambitions had outgrown Scott.
That is despite Scott guiding the club to fifth place last season with another mid-table finish guaranteed this term, while on Saturday Dundee outplayed city rivals United 3-0 in derby action.
Scott's position and that of his assistant Jimmy Bone, who will also leave the club, has been compromised in recent months, however, with the arrival of a clutch of overseas players signed at other parties' instigation.
It is understood Dundee have already met with candidates for the managerial position and Scott outlined his fury at how he has been treated by a club he believes he has served with distinction.
He said: "I'm angry and resentful. What started off as the best week of the season with the derby win has turned into one of the worst days in my football career.
"I think it has been the worst-kept secret in Dundee my future was under review, but it does hurt that I wasn't told the truth when I asked for my future to be clarified quite a while ago.
"I asked them to be honest with me, but they were not. It was only when stories about possible successors started circulating that they were forced into doing something official.
"All of this is something which has been going on for ages and the unfortunate thing is that everything has been done behind the scenes and I've never been told anything."
When asked whether he planned to now walk out on the club, Scott said: "All I can say at the moment is that I will still be back at the park tomorrow morning working away as usual."
Scott's fate mirrors that of his predecessor John McCormack, now managing Queen's Park, who lost his job back in 1997 at a time when Dundee topped Scottish Division One.
McCormack said: "I would not wish what has happened to Jocky on anyone. I thought Jocky did a good job. In many ways, over the past two years he has finished the job I started.
"I think he has done well, but I know all too well the guys he is working for and that has made it difficult for him.
"I don't have any real sympathy for Jocky. He knew what was happening with myself. He knows that as well as I do. He knew what he was getting himself into.
"But I do have concerns for Dundee because I think you must have, given that two successful managers have now lost their jobs. I know the club well having played for it and managed it.
"New owners came into the club saying they were Dundee supporters so it's a bit disappointing what has happened since. All we can do now is wait and see if they (the Marr brothers) have made the right decision."
Jocky Scott has accused the Dundee board of betraying him by leaving him in the dark for months before eventually telling him his services were no longer required as manager.
Speculation about Scott's future has been fierce in recent weeks and the Dens Park club finally confirmed on Monday that they will not be renewing his contract when it expires on July 9.
The Dundee board, headed by owners the Marr brothers Jimmy and Peter, issued a lengthy explanation for their actions which made clear they felt their ambitions had outgrown Scott.
The Marrs are believed to have lined up Italian brothers Ivano and Dario Bonetti to replace Jocky Scott next season.
While Dundee have yet to officially confirm that the Bonetti brothers are to take over, their appointment is expected to be announced when Scott's contract expires on July 9.
Ivano, a former Sampdoria, Torino and Grimsby striker and Dario, formerly of Roma, were involved in a bid to buy Dundee earlier this season.
Dundee fans' chief Norrie Price said that he is willing to trust the Dens Park board's decision to replace Jocky Scott - because they had got every decision right in the past.
The Evening Telegraph wrote;
ITALIAN brothers Ivano and Dario Bonetti will replace Dundee boss Jocky Scott when his contract expires in July.
The pair, who helped bring Patrizio Billio to Dens earlier this season and were part of a consortium that even considered bidding for a controlling interest in the Dark Blues, are now certain to move into the manager's office during the summer.
When they do, they are also expected to bring their own team of coaches and severalnew players.
So far Dundee has refused to confirm they will be the men in charge and, while no one expects Jocky Scott to be at the club next term, he has still to be told officially that his services will not be required beyond July 9 - the date his present contract ends.
However, I understand detailed negotiations with the board and the Bonettis have already taken place and agreement for them to take over team affairs has been reached.
Owner Peter Marr and his directors see them as them men to lead the club back to Europe and secure an all important top six place by the time the SPL splits into two halves in the middle of next season.
Even so, they are taking a gamble on two men who have only limited experience of British football. Ivano did have a short spell at Grimsby Town, though Dario does have managerial experience in Italy.
As well as bringing Continental thinking and a new style of play to Dundee, the board hopes the Bonettis will also use their extensive contacts on the Continent and further afield to bring in new talent.
For many the news the Italians are coming - exactly when their appointment will be formally announced is not clear - will seem harsh on Jocky Scott.
In his time back at Dens, he has completed the job of steering the team back to the top flight, kept themthere last season with a highest ever top 10 finish.
While it was known weeks ago there would be no relegation, Saturday's emphatic 3-0 derby win over Dundee United confirmed Dundee would not finish last and, with two games left, a repeat of last term's fifth placeis still possible.
It has, however, been clear for some time that Jocky Scott's days at Dens were numbered and, while disappointed, today's news will hardly come as a shock to him.
The Evening Telegraphalso went with the Headline "TIME IS UP FOR JOCKY"
Once they realised the news about Italian brothers Ivano and Dario Bonetti was out, the Dundee board moved quickly to inform Jocky Scott his services would not be required for next season.
They also informed assistant boss Jimmy Bone his contract would not be renewed.
The pair met with chairman Jimmy Marr and commercial director Jim Connor at Dens late this morning, and the two board members admitted it was not a pleasant experience.
"Anyone who is losing their job is hurt and upset, that's obvious," said Jimmy Marr.
He stressed the decision to go for change had been unanimous but had been very difficult, and out of respect declined to explain why it was felt Jocky Scott was not the man to continue in charge of team matters.
He would neither confirm nor deny the Bonettis' appointment, though every indication is they will be appointed in the near future.
They will not, however, take up their duties until the build-up to next term starts and, while Jocky has not confirmed as much, he is expected to remain in his post until July 9.
In a statement, the board paid tribute to the men they feel are no longer good enough to take the club forward.
"The board wishes to convey its sincere thanks to both Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone for their efforts during their time in charge. There is no doubt that both men have been instrumental in taking this club forward to the point where everyone's aspirations surpass mere survival.
"When they leave Dens Park, they will go with the best wishes of everyone involved with the club."
While they will take stick for dismissing a successful manager for the second time in little over two years - John McCormack was replaced with the team atop the First Division - the Dens Board remain convinced they're doing what is right.
"Ever since we've been here we have done what we feel is best for Dundee FC, and for as long as we are here, that is what we will do," said Jimmy Marr.
While Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone are leaving, coaches Ray Farningham and Billy Thomson, plus Youth Development supremo Kenny Cameron, will stay on.
For their two last home games, Dundee have been forced to make the South Enclosure all-ticket. These are now on sale.
The Daily Rec**d as can be expected have gone for the headline "AMATEURS"
Dundee yesterday booted out manager Jocky Scott in favour of two rookie coaches from Italy's FIFTH Division.
The Dens Park boss was sickened yesterday when he was told that his contract won't be renewed at the end of the season.
Now the club have lined up brothers Ivano and Dario Bonetti who have just failed to get amateur club Sestrese promoted to Serie C2, the Italian fourth division.
Bonetti played for Roma against Dundee United in the famous European Cup semi-final in 1984 while brother Ivano is best known for having his cheekbone fractured by Grimsby manager Brian Laws in a notorious "sandwich throwing" incident in February, 1996. And although Ivano is currently assistant to Dario at Sestrese, a club from the Genoa area, he will be head coach in the new look set-up at Dens Park.
The brothers are expected to arrive on Tayside later this week.
Last night Ivano, who played for Sampdoria in the 1992 European Cup final, would only say: "We are talking to the club."
Sports Record , however, under-stands the double appointment is a done deal and will be confirmed before the weekend.
Scott received the stunning news that he and assistant Jimmy Bone are out at 11am yesterday, although the club expects them to work through until the end of their contracts in July.
Despite his shock and anger Scott still went ahead with a planned golf outing at a local course.
Dundee's decision is a quite astonishing one, replacing a highly-rated Premier boss with the two inexperienced Italians just two days after the club's record-breaking 3-0 win over city rivals United.
The move though was not entirely unexpected because Dens chief executive Peter Marr, who is based in Spain, recently signed two new players Santiago Luna and Javier Artero without Scott's knowledge.
Last night Scott's worst fears were realised and he said: "I can't say it has come as a shock but I thought it would have been handled a lot better.
"There has been talk and speculation for weeks that I wasn't going to be there but I'm angry because they didn't have the decency to tell me. I think the Marr brothers have behaved badly."
This is not the first time the Dundee board have replaced a successful manager. Previous boss John McCormack was sacked two years ago when the club were five points clear at the top of Division I, ironically to be replaced by Scott.
Club chairman Jimmy Marr commented: "Our reasons for the parting of the ways are based around a new direction for the future of the club.
"Due consideration was taken of discussions with Jocky.
"We sought out candidates from throughout the world of football and the decision not to renew Jocky's contract was an incredibly hard one to take.
"He reacted exactly as anyone would when losing a job in that he was hurt and upset. There is genuine sympathy from the board in that respect."
All the manager was prepared to say on that subject was: "Jimmy Bone and myself will be in for training in the morning."
Ivano Bonetti, who is 35, suffered a fractured cheekbone in a dressing room fracas after Laws saw red when the Italian casually started eating a sandwich during the post match rant which followed a defeat by Luton. Bonetti accepted out of court damages from Laws in December 97.
It is believed Dundee were first informed of the Bonetti brothers when their cousin, Dario Magri, acted as agent for the Patrizio Billio transfer last year.
Sportal went with the Headline "Scott to leave Dundee"
Dundee manager Jocky Scott has been told that he will not have his contract renewed at the end of the season. Scott and assistant manager Jimmy Bone will be allowed to leave the club when their contracts expire on the July 9 and it is thought the club will look to the continent to find a successor.
"I can confirm that the directors spoke to Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone this morning and informed them that their contracts won't be renewed when they expire in the summer," said a club spokesperson. "It was not a snap decision and is something the board have considered over a period of time."
Scott's departure was widely expected after chairman Peter Marr had signed several players without his manager's consent. Marr has also refused to back his manager throughout the season despite their solid Premier League campaign and first derby victory over Dundee United since 1989.
The club also released Scott's predecessor, John MacCormack, after he took First Division Dundee to the brink of promotion in February 1998.

JOCKY GOES - DUNDEE FC STATEMENT
The Dundee Football Club Board of Directors today (MONDAY, MAY 8, 2000) confirmed that they will not be renewing the contracts of manager Jocky Scott or assistant manager Jimmy Bone when they expire in the summer. Both Jocky and Jimmy were informed of the board's decision this morning. The board wishes to convey its sincere thanks to both Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone for their efforts during their time in charge of the team. There is no doubt that both men have been instrumental in taking this club forward to the point where everyone's aspirations surpass mere Premier League survival. When they leave Dens Park, they will go with the best wishes of everyone involved with the club.
In reaching this decision, the directors took an unprecedented length of time to carefully assess the many options available to them in relation to the management structure at Dens Park. They were determined that when a final decision was reached, it was done in the firm belief that they were acting in the best interests of Dundee Football Club. The decision not to proceed with the current management team is no reflection on the abilities of either man. Nor should it be interpreted that the directors felt that the manager and his assistant had achieved all that they could for Dundee.
The records of Jocky Scott and Jimmy Bone speak for themselves. But the unanimous decision of the board is that a change of direction at management level is the desired option. Now is an appropriate time for change to be made as the existing managerial contracts are almost up and a new management team must be put in place in time to start preparations for next season.
Dundee Football Club is in the best health it has been in for years thanks to the hard work of all concerned on and off the field.
There is an exciting future ahead of this club and, contrary to views held by some outside of Dens Park, everyone involved with Dundee FC is entitled to be ambitious for the future and set their sights high.
Dundee Football Club's primary goal for next season is to finish in the top six of the Scottish Premier League, before the division splits in half. Thereafter, the aim is to achieve a level of success and consistency year upon year that would guarantee European football at Dens Park each season.
We do not believe that we are being unrealistic in striving to become the third force in Scottish football.
A Press Conference to announce the new management team will be made in the near future.

JOCKY DEE-LIGHTED
Jocky Scott allowed himself a rare smile after his men produced the performance of their season to demolish United by 3-0.Two goals from Willie Falconer and one from James Grady gave the Dark Blues their first success against United this season and Scott's side could afford the luxury of a missed penalty from Patrizio Billio.
Scott beamed: "This performance was the best I've seen all season."
"We kept it going from the start of the game to the end. Our passing and movement of the ball was excellent."
"It was a great team performance and it was very important we got the result. Some players haven't performed to their best this season, but they were brilliant against United."
"It's a long time since I've seen a Dundee team beat Dundee United so convincingly, not just in the scoreline, but also in the manner of our victory," he added."

Tonights match at Dens was attended by a surprisingly small crowd for the 'Wee Derby'.
Dundee struggled to get out of there own half in the first 25 minutes which was dominated possesion wise by United, without ever threatening Jamie Langfield's goal.
The remainder of the first half however was a different story with the Dee's coming close on 5 occasions in quick succession from John Elliot, Graham Bayne (twice), a Chris Coyne Header and a visious drive by Willie Miller from the edge of the box.
The first 10 minutes of the second half started with possesion even, However on the hour mark John Elliot sprinted down the right wipping in a low cross which Graham Bayne just failed to connect with.
In 63 minutes Jamie Langfield almost gifted United the opening goal, when after grasping a cross he attempted to throw the ball out however connected with Barry Forbes back, the ball landed at Sturrock Jnrs feet but Jamie reacted brilliantly grasping the ball when Sturrock attempted to round him.
An attempt at goal by Graham bayne went just over the bar in 65mins.
Zugovic was beggining to spray the ball about quite well and Barry Forbes latched on to a long diagonal passonly to be foiled by Gallacher in the United goal.
Chris Coyne was booked in the 75th minute for a sliding tackle.
Keith Gibson attempted a strike at goal from 30 yards which hit the bar in 80 minutes.
A beuitiful cross field ball from Barry Forbes was received by Steven Robb on the left hand side who crossed into the box towards Graham Bayne who was unmarked, he seemed to be caught in two minds when it seemed easier to score and Gallacher claimed the mis hit shot in 83 minutes.
That was the last clear opportunity in the match which finished goalless.
DEES HEAD FOR ARBITRATION
Dundee are awaiting a date for an arbitration hearing to settle their long-running dispute with the SPL over Sky TV fees. The Dark Blues have been arguing with the SPL for almost two years over a payment of £400,000-which they insist they are entitled to.Dundee claim they are due a share of the original sum received from Sky. The SPL, who instead split the amount concerned between Hibs (by way of compensation for helping set up the SPL, but being relegated from the old Premier League before the new set-up came into existence) and Falkirk (who were deprived of a play-off tilt at the top flight by league reconstruction), disagree.
Various attempts to end the row have failed and now an independent panel, who's judgment will be binding, is to be convened to settle the matter once and for all.
GRADY CONTRACT OFFER
Dundee have opened re-signing talks with striker James Grady, whose contract is up in the summer. However, the figures suggested by Grady's agent Raymond Sparkes are way above what the Dark Blues would consider paying and the Dens Park board have advised Sparkes he will have to come back with amended proposals if a deal is to be struck.
DANISH SIGNINGS LATEST
Dundee's interest in two of the three mystery Danes they were first linked with just over a month ago is still alive. The pair recently made a hush hush, whistlestop visit to Dundee to look round the club and the city, and Dark Blues officials-these would again be boardroom rather than managerial signings-will watch them in action in Denmark again before a final decision on whether to offer the duo contracts is reached.
MILLER FIT FOR DERBY
Willie Miller will bid to stake a claim for a starting place in Saturday's derby when he runs out as an over-age player for the under-21s for their meeting with Dundee United at Dens Park tonight. The full-back's first-team contributions have been restricted to rare appearances from the substitutes' bench in the last couple of months, but Dundee manager Jocky Scott admits the player is in his thoughts for the weekend.
"The way I am thinking about things just now, Willie will be in with a shout if he comes through the game okay," he said.
"He is a very experienced footballer, who has been unfortunate not to get more playing time recently."
The Dark Blues other over-age performers in the wee derby will be Frank van Ejis and Jose Mesas.
SEASON TICKET PRICES
Dundee are on the verge of finalising their season ticket arrangements for next term and these are expected to include a special deal which will allow a family of four to watch a match for about £20, with the youngsters getting a drink and a snack thrown in with the price.
MCSKIMMING OUT FOR FOR REST OF SEASON
Dundee's Shaun McSkimming may not kick a ball for the first team again this season. The midfielder has featured regularly this term and even a hernia op over the winter shutdown failed to keep him out for long.
However, the 29-year-old hasn't featured since the 2-2 draw with Celtic at Parkhead last month, when he was substituted after picking up an Achilles injury.
Now, with only three league games remaining, it now seems unlikely that he will recover in time to feature in any of them.
"Shaun is progressing slowly, but I would have to doubt whether he will be able to take part in our last three games," said manager Jocky Scott today.

SAVO WINS AWARD
On-Loan Dee Steven Milne last night won the Division 3 Players Player of the Year Award at an awards ceremony in Glasgow.
NO INJURY WORRIES FOR DERBY
With the exception of the injured Shaun McSkimming who is out for the rest of the season, Dundee should have no fitness problems when they play host to Dundee United on Saturday for the final derby of the season.Disappointed at losing three second-half goals to Rangers last night, boss Jocky Scott at least had the consolation of not having any major injury problems from the Ibrox visit.
He gave his squad the day off today, so their preparations for the United clash will start tomorrow.
ANNAND FOR KILLIE?
As first reported on this site months ago Kilmarnock boss Bobby Williamson has today been linked in the national press with a summer move for Eddie Annand.Williamson is keen to enhance his squad after a disappointing season struggling against relegation and reckons Annand could add depth and versatility to his ranks.
Williamson has also been heavily tipped to sign Rangers striker Gordon Durie.
DERBY BATTLE NEXT
Next Saturday sees the final derby of the season with Dens Park hosting the event in front of what should be a huge crowd. For Jocky Scott, the game will be more interesting than usual as it's likely to be his last game in charge, although both he and Peter Marr refuse to confirm or deny the story.
SCHUSTER TURNS DOWN DEES
Bernd Schuster has said he won't be taking Jocky Scott's job even if the Marr brothers offer him a king's ransom. The former Real Madrid and Barcelona star, a pal of Steve Archibald who supplied the players so controversially, said he is currently negotiating with a Spanish club and wants to stay in that country.
Peter Marr claimed recently that Schuster was the sort of man with a long pedigree who the club wanted in place for the start of next season, and while Marr didn't name names, he mentioned Schuster as a man with such qualities, but he's now said no and his hunt for a new boss continues.
