Emulation & Roms
No...no...emulation has nothing whatsoever to do with making love to
flightless Australian birds!
Now we have cleared that little misunderstanding up we can find out just what
emulation is.
Emulation is a term used to describe the way you can trick your good old PC
into thinking it is a games console. Why? Well why not? Why not trick your PC
into thinking it is a playstation, (for example) and then downloading the games
(Roms) free of charge from the net and playing them! A whole world of gaming
then opens up before you.
I do not condone doing any of this as it cheats the software houses out of
potential sales and therefore jeopardizes (hic..) future game development. That
said, I do understand the temptation now laid before you to download a gameboy
colour emulator and all the Pokemon roms (inc. gold and silver!) You can't help
but be tempted to get these roms, especially as it may take 6-12 months for them
to be released in your own country!
As you can imagine, these sites come and go very quickly as the
"corporations" prowl around the net with their lawyers. In the past
week I've lost 90% of my favourite URL's (they have gone the same way as my feet and disappeared!) but I'll add up to date
lists for you so these should all be "live" if they are down please
