The Disc's best known civil servant, he once got the sack for developing a personality. Over the series death has become one of the best loved characters, appearing in most of the books, the only person to ever get the better of him is Rincewind on numerous occasions. It's easy to think of death as uncaring but he saved Isabel who became his adopted daughter, and most recently in Soul music and the Hogfather he has been reunited with his grandaughter, Susan. His favourite food is a curry from Ankh-Morpork and he has also been known to frequent the Drum (broken or otherwise) in an attempt to drown his sorrows. His caring side is shown in Reaper Man where he shares his lifetimer to save a little girl. He also loves cats recently taking in a houseful of unwanted strays. He rides on a white horse called Binky (skeletal horses used to fall apart).

The character has also made an appearance in Pratchett's parody of the Omen films, Good Omens written with Neil Gaiman.

This Death has style.
