PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Fellow bowlers
Being born
a Yorkshireman,
you can
imagine
how
honoured
I
am,
to
be elected President of
the Yorkshire
County Bowling Association for the
year
2009.
I
hope
I
can match
the high
standards
set by
my predecessors.
My
sincere
thanks
to
my
club
Driffield Recreation
for
their nomination
and
also for
the
enthusiasm
shown
for
my presidential
year.
We at Driffield
Rec. look forward
to
hosting
a
number
of
Yorkshire
CBA
fixtures
during
2009.
I
thank
Alwyn
Baron for
encouraging
me
to become involved with
Yorkshire
County
Bowls
and
for
his guidance
and
support
over
the
years.
I
am also
indebted to the
Past
Presidents who
have
consistently
provided
constructive
advice
to
me
as
and when required.
Congratulations to our C team on winning the Armstrong Cup in 2008 ad the mixed under 21 team, for winning the Tom Butler Top 9 Trophy at the 2008 Northern Counties B.A. finals; the team has an average age of under 17.
I know that Tom Addison, team manager and Chris Kelly, team captain will be doing their utmost to bring success 10 our County in 2009, and they will of course have us all rooting for them. I also wish all our County representatives every success at the National Finals at Worthing in 2009.
Thanks to those who nominated for A B and C team matches and also for county friendly and patrons matches in 2009. The Northern Counties BA recognise that travelling costs have now become a real issue when bowlers are deciding whether or not to nominate for matches, and with this in mind they are considering changing the format of the Northern Counties matches from 2010.
I conclude by expressing
a
sincere
wish
that all Yorkshire
bowlers
enjoy
playing
this
wonderful game of
ours
in 2009 and for many years
to
come.
Geoff Burnell
