 Introduction to 6 properties the Monchique area

Monchique is a mountain village, which owes its fame to the hot mineral springs at Caldas de Monchique. Frequented by the Romans and later by the gentry of the Middle Ages, Caldas became a fashionable Spa, the sulphurous waters helping to cure rheumatism.

The Monchique area is about a 15-minute drive up from the town of Portimao, and about 20 minutes to several beaches. It is bliss up here in the season, when the coast can be so crowded. A wonderful place to walk with sweet chestnut, eucalyptus and pine trees, and the air is so fresh and clear.

There are several villas to rent in this lovely area, of which most are very secluded and private. On a clear day there are magnificent views all the way to the coast. Car hire is essential.  I currently have the following 6 villas to offer in the area; however if you are looking for something different, larger, or smaller in the same area, do please ask, as there are more than these 6 available.

At the Spa village of Caldas de Monchique there are the recently re-opened Thermas de Monchique, a thermal spa complex with hotels, luxurious thermal baths, therapy treatments, pools, skin and fitness clinics and anti-stress programmes. Why not spend an hour or so soaking up one of the therapies on offer?

Casa Hattu is located near the Spar resort of Caldas de Monchique in a completely secluded fertile valley. There are superb views across fruit orchards to the Algarve coast.  The property is a 5-kilometre drive from Monchique village and a 20-minute drive from the coast. Car hire is essential when staying at this property.
The villa has 1 double bedroom with full bathroom en-suite, and a smaller double bedroom with a separate shower bathroom. Between the two is the cosy living room with fireplace, colour TV and CD player. There is a well-equipped kitchen.  Outside is a large covered terrace with outside furniture and below this the lower terrace houses the swimming pool. There are extensive grounds with fruit trees.  There is a maid service.

Quinta Carmelo is a perfect mixture of rustic charm and modern convenience, an ideal retreat for clients who want complete privacy.  The villa is situated a 10 minute drive from the mountain village of Monchique, and is within walking distance to the mountain village of Casais. The villa is reached by driving down a narrow mountain lane through the eucalyptus, sweet chestnut and pine forest, and car hire is essential.
Quinta Carmelo has a large and attractive sitting room, with a separate conservatory housing the dining table and chairs. The large well appointed country-style kitchen is to the rear of these rooms.  From the sitting room terrace, steps lead down through planted garden terraces to the fair sized swimming pool. Pool heating is available at an extra cost.
The villa has two bedrooms; a double bedroom suite and a smaller second twin room which we normally only rent to two children. There are two  bathrooms.  The villa is very well furnished and equipped. There is a maid service and a gardener. The pool is serviced weekly.

 MONTE DO SOL

Monte do Sol is situated in the exclusive Montinho development near to Caldas de Monchique. Montinho is about only a few minutes drive from Caldas, and about 20 minutes from the coast. This is a well maintained and nicely decorated house built on one level, and facing south with super views of the Algarve coast and the distant sea. Car hire is essential.
The house has a West Wing with two double bedrooms and two en-suite bathrooms. The East Wing has two twin bedrooms, one bathroom and one shower room. The central part of the villa has a spacious living room with satellite TV and patio doors out to the front terrace and lawned garden. There is a separate dining room and a fully fitted kitchen. The front terrace is equipped for outside dining. The solar heated swimming pool is at the side of the house and benefits from changing rooms and a bar. There is maid service.

Situated in the exclusive Montinho estate in the Monchique hills, close to the Spa of Caldas de Monchique, and within walking distance of Monte do Sol & Casa Periquita. This lovely villa, which was designed by the Canadian Architect owner, is furnished in a modern style and equipped to a high standard. The villa is set against a backdrop of pine trees and has the most tremendous views.
The accommodation is on two floors with central open-plan living accommodation in the centre and the bedrooms set in the wings to either side on both floors. There are 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and 2 shower rooms. The living/family rooms on both floors are huge. There is a well-fitted kitchen, a laundry room, and a snug. The pool terrace has low walls with built-in bench seats, making the villa unsuitable for young children.
The swimming pool is an unusual triangular shape, matching the design of the house and has built-in steps. The terraces are equipped with pool and sun furniture. There is a maid service. Car hire is essential.

Casa Tigina is located at Foia, which is the part of the Monchique Mountain leading up from Monchique village to the top. Still below the tree line, this magnificent villa stands on the hillside and enjoys superb views over the Algarve to the coast.  A recently built villa, it is comfortably furnished and equipped to a high standard.  Just 5 minutes drive up from Monchique village, and also within walking distance of several mountain restaurants.
The villa has four twin bedrooms and three bathrooms. Large comfortable sitting room with TV, and a separate elegant dining room. There also is a well-equipped kitchen, utility room, cloakroom, garage and carport. Outside, the front terrace has covered and open sun terraces and a triangular shaped swimming pool with Roman steps. By the pool is a shower and changing rooms.  The villa has a maid service. Car hire is essential.

This gorgeous, high-class villa is situated in the exclusive Montinho estate just outside Caldas de Monchique and only a few hundred metres from Monte do Sol on page 22.  Montinho is about a 5-minute drive from Caldas and a 20-minute drive from the Algarve coast.  The villa sits high on the mountainside, surrounded by pine and eucalyptus trees, and has fantastic panoramic views down to the coast.
The villa is entered via a magnificent hall. Downstairs is the guest double bedroom suite with dressing room and en-suite bathroom. There are two further twin bedrooms both with en-suite shower rooms. Each bedroom has patio doors out to the lower terrace, garden and pool. Upstairs there is a master double bed and bathroom suite, a large living/dining room, a family room with fireplace, satellite TV, HiFi, and a cloakroom. The large very well fitted kitchen has a dining table for 8. All the upper rooms have doors out to the upper terrace.  Outside is the beautifully landscaped garden with walk-in pebble finished swimming pool, and outside pool house with bar, barbecue, fridge and shower. Maid 5 days per week.
