Jules's Garden Railway.

The Bambrough & Mallenbourne Junction line in OO Gauge

This is a pictorial record of the evolution of my garden railway. Construction began in late 2002 and by early spring 2003 all of the construction was complete leaving the track laying to be done. By April 2003 the track was down and trains began to run on what has become the Bambrough & Mallenbourne Junction line. In 2004 it became evident that the plastic platforms were not going to withstand relentless sunlight and began to warp and split so a new station was clearly needed. Wood was chosen for the new platforms and so far they have withstood the test of whatever weather is thrown at it. Not so the station furniture which has twice undergone replacement due to cats using the railway as a launch pad up the garden fence. I decided once again that wood should be used for station canopies and early in 2007 I constructed basic but functional canopies with in built lighting. Here then is the pictorial record of my railway.. to see each picture in full simply click on each individual thumbnail which will open up the full picture.... enjoy!

Overview of Bambrough Station in 2003

A lot of people ask.. what happens when it rains? Here's the answer!!

An unusual formation of Class 25 x match wagon and 4-car 1938 tube train

In 2004 the station platforms required a total rebuild as the original plastic ones were falling apart.. the new wooden platforms in situ at a (very) unfinished  station

For the majority of 2004 the station remained unfinished but there was enough furniture on the platforms to make it worth stopping!

One thing the station did gain in that year however, was an overall roof.

Clan Line swings round the approach curve to the station in late afternoon sunlight

Another shot from 2003 with Class 37 bringing in charter stock

A year later at the same spot but looking a bit less realistic is a class 25 with NSE stock

2005 saw little work on the railway and it was not until 2006 that things really got started again

Although the platforms got a bit of a paint in 2005 ..by May 2006 the weather had got to it and the cat's had demolished the overall roof!

An overview of the station in May 2006.. looking a bit tatty!

Rockery Corner.. with added scenery. The trees have survived well and still stand today

"Wilton" stands in the station on a hot summers day in 2006

A rather blurry shot of Class 52 "Western Empress" in late 2006

An elderly Tri-ang Brush type 2 (class 31 in new money)

Bambrough seen through the 2006 crop of toms!

Some ask me what happens when it rains.. you have seen the result above... unfotunately this is what happens when it snows! Even my trains get stopped in snow! this was the first shot of 2007!

The N class still puts in a sterling performance on the line this shot was taken in March 2007 after Bambrough had received a spruce up and new scratch built platform canopies (see next pic)

Although the canopies have been made they still require finishing off as the paint on the supports shows

N class again simmers awaiting the off

And finally... a look at the station in March 2007. there is still a lot to do to get it looking how I want it but I am pleased with the results so far... and it would seem the canopies are cat proof this time too!
