How often and type of exercise

Exercise not only keeps you fit and healthy, but makes you look and feel your best. Other very good health benefits of working out include:

  • Weight loss
  • Reduced raised cholesterol and reduces risk of heart disease and reduces high blood pressure
  • Reduces risk of diabetes and risk of osteoporosis
  • Reduces stress levels



If you are new to regular exercise or have had time out, take it slowly at first and build up at a suitable pace for you

  • Cardiovascular (CV) exercise, 20 minites +, 3 times a week (eg CV machines in a gym, aerobics classes, brisk walking, swimming)
  •  Resistance work - 2 x week minimum (eg resistance machines in a gym, body conditioning classes)
  • Stretch - do not forget to stretch out the muscles you are using, before and after your exercise session (warm up first!). This helps prevent injury and maintains flexability.
