Some of you may remember that I asked a couple of weeks ago now if
anyone had seen this band and several people said that they were
great. I also got a couple of privaye emails as well from some people
as well.
I have to admit that i was, like some other people it seems thinking
that this was a case of tribute band brown nosing, as I searched for
what other people had said about them not having a drummer etc etc.
I saw a solo "Stars in your eyes" type singer the a few weeks ago now
Rob Lewis I think his name is who sang Genesis and phil songs, but he
waqs poor so I expexted Face Value to be more of the same.
HOW WRONG CAN YOU BE.
What i saw was a band of top musicians led by an awesome singer and
frontman. From the first song a great version of Mama to the last
which was Domino, Face Value sang and played as well as I have ever
seen anyone.
Taking the crowd by the throat John sang his heart out. He was
incredible for the whole 2hours+. In the air tonight was my favourite
but he didnt let up. I was waiting for his voice to give out later in
the set as this other singer had done
NO CHANCE
I didnt think Id ever see a singer to match Phil live, but I have now.
His voice on Afterglow has to be heard to be believed.
Will on guitar was a Daryl clone, and if thre lads ever get back
together someone give them his phone number. Two songs really did it
for me Many Too Many that was bliss to hear live was spot on with the
guitar note for note perfect and Easy Lover which showed his skill
with the fast stuff.
Tony the keyboard player was tops as well. Great solo on Follow you
and a great version of Afterglow. Just think of the songbook and add
better vocals. He must of spent a long time on the backing tracks
because to me they sounded perfect. He also sings a bit on easy Lover
as well.
With this in mind I went back and looked at the messages on here
again and I have to ask if this is the same band that I saw?
The lack of a drummer and bass didnt bother the 100 people who packed
into the Belle view one bit. I must admit that i have seen several
tribute bands there and Face Value had by far and away the best sound
of them all.
I will certainly be going to see the band again. I think I heard them
say that they are back in August.
One request lads.
HOME BY THE SEA PLEASE.
See ya
