A Frisky Whisky Barbecue

For centuries the Scots have been distilling Whisky - or as it is known in Gaelic - uisge beatha (water of life). Originally, before distilling became legal, this was carried out in small, illicit stills in the glens. Whisky making is now carried out in legal distilleries, some of which can be found in the same location as the old illicit stills.

Distilling is an interesting and lengthy process (some malts can take up to 15 years to mature). Many distilleries now open their doors to visitors (though usually only at limited times and often only by prior arrangement) offering an insight into the process of creating the water of life.
