Current Version: 1.08

16 October: Ebay have changed the format of the "seller's other items" page which Auction List uses to extract the item list.

Originally, this change affected the US site (ebay.com) only, it has now been rolled out to all the Ebay sites.

I am currently working on an update, which should hopefully be ready shortly.

Software to monitor page hits, bids and feedback changes for Ebay sellers.

The program regularly checks your auctions, and displays a list of all current items and those which have finished recently. It also uses the Andale site to show the number of hits that each item has received.

Whenever a potential buyer looks at one of the listed items, the program marks the item with a > and plays a user chosen sound. When a bid is received, the item is displayed in red and a different user chosen sound is played.

Additionally, when the seller's feedback changes, the new rating is displayed in the window's title bar and a third user chosen sound is played.

Once configured, the program operates automatically and can be started with Windows by adding it to the StartUp folder on the Windows Start Menu. Updating will start as soon as the computer is connected to the internet.

The program is © Keith Harrison, 2002-2004 and is available for all eBay members to use on their own auctions.

The program is tested and working on my system and, thanks to a number of eBay Q&A/Round Table users and many "volunteers" around the world (you know who you are), has been tested on most versions of Windows from 95 upwards.

Note for existing users: Before downloading a new version of the program, please exit from your current version. It is also recommended that you either save the new version over the top of the old one or delete the old version first and then download the new one. Your current settings will be retained.

IMPORTANT: For Auction List to work properly, you must select your local Ebay site from the pull down list on the Make window. If you try to use another site and don't sell all your items "worldwide", the time remaining will always show as 9d 09h and bids will not register correctly.

Right click here and select Save Target As... or Save Link As...
Wait for the Save As window to appear.
Select the location (eg. Desktop, c:\Program Files) to save the program and click Save.
Wait for the program to download.

The program is now installed.

Note: If you do not have windows installed on your C drive, follow the above instructions, but download from one of the following links: drive D or drive E. <P><A HREF="#top"><B><FONT SIZE=2>Back to top</B></FONT></A></P>

Start Auction List from its saved location.
When the main window opens, click on Setup.
On the Selling tab use the Make buttons to create/enter the required Ebay and Andale URLs for the IDs you wish to monitor. Please use the help system to guide you through the process.
Click on the Sounds tab and choose the sounds to play when a count, watch count, bid or feedback changes (most audio formats are supported except mp3).
The Options & Advanced tabs allow you to customise the behaviour of the program. The help system provides details of the available options.
Click OK to save your settings.

The program should now download and display your current auctions. <P><A HREF="#top"><B><FONT SIZE=2>Back to top</B></FONT></A></P>

The information displayed will automatically update according to your chosen interval.
Press Refresh to update immediately.
Selecting Fast will cause updates to happen more quickly (useful near end of auction).
Deselecting Counts allows you to turn off the Andale counts feature on a temporary basis (ie. when their site is down or running very slowly). The eBay information will be downloaded as normal.
Selecting Pause will stop all updates (so you can leave the room and not miss any bids). You can still press Refresh to get the current status.
Press Reset to clear any old information displayed, ie. auctions which have ended or ended over 24 hours ago according to your preferred configuration.

Note, the Ebay part updates reliably but the Andale counts can be a bit erratic when their site is busy. <P><A HREF="#top"><B><FONT SIZE=2>Back to top</B></FONT></A></P>

Auction List is not part of some huge software company - it's a program that I have written as a result of my own experience of buying and selling on Ebay.

It would never have got this far, were it not for the invaluable contributions of time, ideas and persuasion from other Ebayers.

Its success and future development depends on its ability to remain responsive to the needs of Ebay users.

Auction List is free, but like a lot of people here, I also have to work long hours in a "proper" job (and find time to list my Ebay stock). So if you find Auction List useful and would like to make a contribution to its future, it would make me happier still!

Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

If you think of a way to improve the program or would like a particular feature adding, then please contact me and I will try and incorporate it into a future version.

If you have a problem getting the program to work correctly on your computer or with your auctions, please e-mail me a full description of the problem. Please include your version of Windows and any error message you may have received.

If the problem is with your auction information, you can attach a copy of the file ebay_sell_page_1.htm from your c:\windows\temp folder. This file contains the information downloaded from Ebay about your auctions. Or you can just include the item numbers of any items that are not showing correctly.

Version Released Details
1.08 04/07/2004 This version now takes its information from the "View Seller's Other Items" page as the new My Ebay 2.0 is completely unusable due to changes to the login procedure and its highly customisable nature.

There is no new functionality added in this release.

Currently, it will list "Buy-it-Now only" items, but unfortunately Auction List cannot tell whether the items have simply ended or actually sold (this problem will be addressed in the next version).

There are one or two other minor features which have also disappeared for the moment, but hopefully these will also return in a future version.

1.07 25/04/2004 This version now supports Baconbuttie watch counts (click here to visit the Baconbuttie website) and non-English language Ebay sites.

When hovering the mouse over an item in the list, an information "hint" will appear, showing more details about the item.

Quick access to an item's Auction Page and Bid History and to the seller's My Ebay and Feedback pages are provided via a menu obtained by right clicking on an item in the list.

You can now choose to have all appropriate sounds played at each update.

Many internal changes have been made in further preparation for version 2.01.

1.06 28/09/2003 This is an interim release to cope with the changed layout of the Andale counts page.

It also allows the number/priority of sounds played on an update to be selected.

The internal workings of the program have been considerably rewritten, ready for the introduction of many new features in version 2.01, due out shortly.

1.05 09/04/2003 Ebay, in their infinite wisdom, have changed the my Ebay selling page to replace certain special characters by their HTML character code equivalents. This causes some very strange behaviour!!

This version simply provides a workaround for this problem and does not otherwise add any new functionality.

1.04a 14/12/2002 Fixed problem with non-display of counts for ebay.com users.

Ok, Ebay have updated the ebay.co.uk pages now, so everyone will need to download this version.

No new functionality added.

1.04 05/12/2002 Added support for up to four Ebay selling IDs. The items from each ID can be intermingled according to end time or kept separate.

Works correctly with multiple Buy It Now items, the number of items sold is indicated next to the price.

Added configuration options to remember window size and position, to keep the window on top of all other windows, to change the update speed and to select the currency symbol to use.

Added a comprehensive help system.

Added an automatic check for the availabilty of an updated version. If a newer version is found, the program will inform you of this by popping up a window shortly after starting up. The window also allows you to see what features are available in the new version.

1.03 30/10/2002 Added support for both formats of Andale listing page.

Improved error handling, no longer gives a file not found error when the Andale counts have not been downloaded.

Created new icon for the program and added the option to place an icon in the System Tray rather than the main Windows taskbar.

1.02 23/10/2002 Added eBay user id and feedback rating to title bar of window, plays a sound when feedback rating changes.

Listing has a bit more space for the price and shows time to end of auction. Finished items are marked Sold or Ended as appropriate, can also choose how long finished items remain on the list.

Added Counts and Pause buttons.

1.01 10/10/2002 Fixed for systems where windows is not installed in c:\windows.
1.00 09/10/2002 First release version.

Lists current auctions and those ended within the last 24 hours.

Plays sounds when a count changes or a bid is received.
