John Moore
Wins Nomadic Celts Open, 5th May 2003
Nine players turned out for the first tournament
in R.O.I. in over 5 years. John Moore claimed victory in
the final against Darren Territ, 4-3 on shots, after a
0-0 draw. John went all the way without conceding a goal.
His semi-final against Gary Moore also went to shots,
another 4-3 victory, after a tense 0-0 draw. A special
mention must go to Danielle Murtagh in her first
tournament. She managed a creditable 0-0 draw with John
Askin in her opening match. A great event was had by all.
Scottish
International Open & GP, South Queensferry 2003
Ireland's Gary Moore was in the draw along
with a strong lineup consisting of players from Holland,
Belgium, Malta, Austria, England, Scotland, Wales &
Northern Ireland. Eric Verhagen of Holland won both
events. Gary qualified from his group in the Open &
lost to Josef Mifsud of Malta in the last 16. The GP saw
him in the same group as England's Chris Thomas and
Malta's Hansl Mallia. He didn't qualify but went down
fighting with a 3-6 defeat against Mallia. He had some
consolation, however, winning the 'Plate' with a 3-0
victory over Susan Wright in the final.
Welsh
International Open, Flint 2003
The Irish Premier League picked up their first
ever trophy, as they finished 2nd in the team event,
losing 3-1 to London in the final. TFAI members, Gary
Moore and John Moore also performed well in the
Individual Open. They were unfortunate to be drawn
together at the group stage. Gary progressed with an
exciting 4-3 victory over John and reached the
quarter-finals, only to lose to England No.1 Phil Redman.
Also, in
an extra, open draw, straight knockout competition, John
reached the semi-finals but had to forfeit his match in
order to catch the ferry home.
English

beating Algy Taylor 3-2 in the final. Southern &
Northern players combined to represent Irish Premier

the Individual Open. Andy Fitzpatrick gained invaluable
experience in his first international tournament.
Gary Moore was interviewed
on Sky Sports News, with John Moore & Andy
Fitzpatrick playing a match in the background. The event
was also covered by the BBC and local newspapers.

Thanks to the Barge Pub, Charlemont Quay, Dublin who
sponsored the trip, especially the proprietor, Philip
Hickey, for his generosity. John Moore and Gary Moore promoted Ireland's
trip by appearing on TV3's AM show. Sporting Ireland
jerseys, both gave an account of their 'Subbuteo' days
while playing a live game for presenter Aidan Cooney.
