DARKNESS: THEATRICAL VERSION |
 |
PICTURE:
Very clean anamorphic transfer of the previous Universal print,
with solid color and detail throughout.
SOUND:
Excellent 5.1 mix with good bass and well placed effects,
especially in action scenes and Danny Elfman's
"March of The Dead"
score.
(This is the best looking and sounding version of this
movie
available it is just a shame it is the shortest and poorest cut
of the film.)
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The "original" apocalypse ending which we have all seen.
Theatrical trailer which shows just how desperate
Universal
were to sell this movie as a a separate entity, though it
does contain a clip from the opening of Evil Dead 2.
The featurette "Men Behind Army" is a
good documentary
narrated by Campbell featuring interviews with the
KNB EFX
guys, in depth looks at effects process and lots of behind the
scenes goofing around.
Two small bios of Campbell and Raimi nothing that cant
be found on the net, and of course the choice of widescreen and
fullscreen versions.

DARKNESS:DIRECTORS - CUT |
 |
PICTURE:
Varies due to different sources of film used to restore footage,
but generally OK, the worst being the windmill scene. However
as this is the version Raimi intended to put in cinemas,
the dips in quality can be forgiven just to see how the film
should have been.
SOUND:
Dolby 2.0 stereo ( Pro logic) is good but as it is
sourced from prints of varied quality this is probably as good
as the sound could be. Not bad though.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Excellent commentary as usual, plus
the restored footage
in the movie.
4 deleted scenes, an alternate beginning which is a lot darker
than the rest of the movie, and 3 deleted scenes, which add to
the plot, but were obviously cut to trim down the time.
(scenes also have optional commentary by Raimi and
Campbell)
Director's story boards available while watching the movie by
pressing your subtitle button, nothing too impressive. |
