Fidel Castro`s Mehari

In the back streets of old Havana there is a mall car museum in which the 1972 Mehari owned by Celia Sanchez is displayed. Celia was the assistant during the revolution and confidante to the Cuban leader, Fidel Castro, and the car was used by him and Che for daily transport. The car has standard military modifications. Celia died in 1980 aged 30.
The final pre-production 2CV prototype

The pre-production prototype was tested in every conceivable situation and terrain. The corrugated features of the body were later abandoned, as was the single headlight. However, much of the design was carried through to production. This prototype has a single hand operated wiper and a dipstick for gauging the contents of the petrol tank.
