Bulldog Squadron Organisation

The Bulldogs are a Squadron formed in the style of a British/Commonwealth WWII Squadron. However

 ALL NATIONALITIES ARE WELCOME.

The style of the Squadron is reflected in it's Organisation, Ranks and Decorations.

The Bulldogs exist to protect, extend and preserve the Great Az Territories Comprising Az and all it's captured lands.

The Bulldogs achieve their objectives through coordinated aggressive actions in Fighter, Fighter-bomber and Bomber roles. The Bulldogs are willing to work with other Az Squads in a common mission. Bulldogs excel in backs-to-the-wall situations, brought about by the many cowardly dweebs that congregate in huge numbers in Cz, and Bz, and hence are worthless!

The Bulldog Squadron is not for the faint-hearted (on account of the numerous cowardly Cz and Bz dweebs :). We take, or make, Pilots of guts, determination and commitment.

Squad Organisation,
The Squad comprises up to three Flights, A,B and C, depending on Squadron strength. Each has it's own Flight Commander, one of whom is also the Squadron Commanding Officer. The Bulldogs also have a Training Officer.

There is a clear Rank structure to the Bulldogs Squad that allows members to see their future. There is also a range of Decorations in the form of Personal and Campaign Medals that reward active and successful Pilots.

Bulldogs of all ranks are encouraged to plan and lead Squad missions.

Ranks,
Ranks reflect the style of the Squad. They carry flying duties ranging from Pilot to Wing Leader. Ranks are mostly achieved through length of service up to the Rank of Flight Lieutenant, and then by Duty Post (Squadron Leader or Wing Leader).

Length of service equates to seniority which is measured in the number of Bulldog missions* flown. A number of missions must be flown before promotion from one rank to the next but field promotions can also be made by agreement between the C/O and the Pilot's Flight Commander.

Up to the rank of Flight Lieutenant you may keep your CO informed regarding number of missions flown at rank so that promotions can be made when due. The CO will otherwise make best efforts to keep track of your service

Flying duties and Ranks are as follows :
for both EU (European) Wing and NA (North American) Wing.

Rank Duties & Responsibilities (apart from planned missions)
Flight Sergeant Recruit Pilot
Pilot Officer command up to a  2 planes
Flying Officer command up to a  4 planes
Flight Lieutenant  command up to a  8 planes
Flight Commander command up to a  12 planes
Squadron Leader command all planes in a Wing
Wing Commander command both EU & NA  Wings

* Missions are any Air Warrior sessions in company with other Bulldog Pilots.

** Pilots transferring in from other Squads will usually take a full rank but may drop at least one rank from their old squad rank.

Posts are permanent appointments but lower ranks may have to undertake "Post" duties on an occasional basis, e.g. Flight Lt. sometimes leads the squad.

Decorations,
There are 4 Personal Medals:

The Air Force Cross (AFC)
The Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC)
The Distinguished Service Order (DSO)
Knight of the Bulldog Empire (KBE)

These can be earned during Bulldog Missions. They can also be earned in any other action which is entered into with at least one other Bulldog wingman (making it a Bulldog action). Some may be earned more than once, i.e. a Bar to the Medal).

There are also Campaign Medals named after each Air Warrior III field, e.g. The Saratoga Cross. These are for outstanding action in defence of, or capture of, an airfield. These citations are only awarded on recommendation by the C/O or a Flight or Mission Commander. The action must be on a par with a DFC action and take place during a Formal Bulldog Mission. Each can be won twice (Medal and Bar). Similar Campaign medals are also awarded for major involvement in a Multi-Frame scenario or War Weekend.

Decorations can only be won in Full Realism arenas.

Air Force Cross 4 Landed Gunner kills of any aircraft types in 1 sortie
Distinguished Flying Cross 4 Landed Fighter kills in 1 sortie. or
Single handed destruction and capture of a defended field (Escorts are Permitted)
Distinguished Service Order 24 months service including 50 sorties
Knight of the Bulldog Empire

Bars to DFC (2 max) Two repeats of the DFC for one DFC Bar.

Bars to DSO (2 max) One repeat of the above for a Bar

Campaign Medal,
Outstanding action in defence or capture of an airfield during a FORMAL BULLDOG MISSION or taking part in a Major Scenario such as a Historical Campaign or War Weekend.

Claims,
Each Bulldog must make his own Personal Medal claim, including bomber Gunners claiming the AFC.

All claims for personal medal actions must be supported by one other Bulldog who need not actually SEE the action but must be satisfied it is valid. (This is a part-honesty system :-) Gun Cams are encouraged for validation and for the Bulldog Web page.

Register each claim/part claim by E-mail to the C/O as they arise. Copy your supporting Bulldog and he must forward it to the C/O noted as confirmed.

Each action counts once only towards any decorations.

Your C/O will keep records and announce awards when due.
