I have been turned to stone by Perseus, but believe me
that was a relief. Previously, I was one of the rulers of the
world under Uranus. When Zeus and the 'New Gods' fought us,
we were defeated. My punishment was to support the heavens
on my shoulders, for eternity.

Somehow I have managed to annoy the gods and have been
punished, doomed forever to push an enormous boulder
up a steep hill. Was it because I seduced my niece, Tyro,
betrayed Zeus to Asopus or conned Thanatos.
Whatever the reason, my back is killing me!

I was so handsome that all the girls and nymphs fell in
love with me, but I could not be bothered with any of them.
There was one young nymph called Echo who got so upset,
when I did not return her affections, went away and died.
The gods heard of this and decided I was far too arrogant,
and punished me. I perished by a stream.

I am up to my neck in water. Up above me there is a
branch laden with delicious fruit. But I have been punished
to feel eternal thirst and hunger. When I try to drink,
the water withdraws just out of my reach. Likewise with the fruit.
Thinking back, I suppose I should not have chopped up
my son Pelops and served him up in a dish to the gods.

I murdered my father-in-law by throwing him into a pit of
burning coals. When Zeus purified me of the crime, I carried
off his wife. Little beknownst to me Zeus had made a replica of
Hera out of clouds, to see if I was really that ungrateful.
I am now tied to a wheel of fire which is still rolling
endlessly around the universe.

I was a hunter, but I have just been torn limb from limb
and ate by my own faithful hounds. All I can remember is,
walking through the forest of Mount Cithaeron and coming across
a secluded pool. To my surprise, there was the Goddess Artemis,
completely naked, bathing in the water.

I am chained to a rock. Each day an eagle comes and tears
out my liver, which renews daily, and eats it again and again.
I had defied Zeus and gave fire to mankind.
However, as I possess powers of prophecy, I foresee
a son of Zeus will eventually rescue me.

We are 49 young maidens being punished in the Underworld
to forever try to fill leaking water-pots. Our father told us
to kill our husbands, sons of Aegyptus, on our wedding night.
We obeyed, all except our sister Hypermestra, because she
had fallen in love with her intended, Lynceus.

I am said to have been the first mortal woman, created by
Hephaestus and Athena on the instructions of Zeus. Epimetheus saw
me, fell in love and married me. I foolishly opened a jar when
I was not supposed to, and let loose all the evils into the world.
My punishment is, I will never ever be forgiven by mankind.

I was a Lydian girl with a great gift for weaving and
embroidery. I foolishly challenged Athena to a tapestry contest.
Athena examined my work, upon seeing it was flawless, got very
angry and tore it up. I lost heart and tried to commit suicide.
She turned me into a spider so I can continue to weave.
