NOTES |
||||
At the age of 19, Rebecca (Becky) gave birth to an illegitimate
son, William (25th Oct 1853), by whom the COOK line continued. It is therefore
the case that anyone descended from Becky should bear the name of the father, as
yet unknown, and that anyone in the family bearing the name of "Cook",
is not a Cook at all. It is unlikely that the proper name will ever be known
because no record of the faher's name has yet been found. However, there is rumor
that a Family Bible exists, formerly in the possession of William Cooks'
daughter, Rose (whose married name was Wallington). The family lived in Watford.
The Bible is now rumored to be in the possession of Roses' Daughter or
Grandaughter, and it may throw light on the mystery of William's father.
In 1862, Rebecca was married to
Benjamin Underwood (was HE the father?) and had a further 4 children: Mary,
Isaac, Elizabeth & Sarah.
