![[1] Romantic Novel of the Year Award Nominees 1998 - click for larger image](image1thumb.jpg) The Romantic Novelists' Association's New Writer's Award, 1998 - press call for all nominees for the RNA Romantic Novel of the Year, plus the winner of the award for a first novel (me). I won this with my first book 'Reading Between the Lines'. The lunch and awards presentation were held in the sparkling surroundings of the Café Royal.

In my left hand is the beautiful Netta Muskett silver rosebowl, engraved with all the names of the winners of the Romantic Novelists' Association New Writer's Award, now including mine. Here I'm pictured with my boyfriend, mum, best friend, and my sister.

'Reading Between the Lines' was chosen for the WH Smith Fresh Talent promotion that year, and went on to be a Sunday Times Top Ten Bestseller within the first week of sales. At WH Smith in Sloane Square, we gathered for the launch of the event. Later, WH Smith treated us to a spectacular celebration dinner at Anton Mosimann's.

Standing is Gillian Carey, my former Oxford University tutor. Mrs Carey is something of a legend, and has been influential in the careers of many students, including mine. I was delighted to see her there.
