A committed Christian, David Jeffrey signed for his beloved Linfield following a 3 year spell with Manchester United. After being released by then manager Ron Atkinson, Jeffrey had considered quitting the game altogether, until an offer arrived to bring him home. That offer came not from Linfield, but from Glentoran who wanted him to play for them in a friendly against Liverpool. The following day Roy Coyle signed the player for Linfield, and during a 10 year spell, he won almost every domestic honour.

A £12,000 move to Ards brought his Linfield playing career to an end however it was only 4 years before he was to return to Windsor, as assistant manager - the first ever appointed by Linfield - following a spell at Larne in a similar role. |
In 1997, following Trevor Anderson's surprise resignation, David Jeffrey was handed the job he had wanted the most, that of Linfield manager and he has held that position ever since, winning numerous trophies along the way. After coming close with two successive seconds, the holy grail of the Premier League title was finally reached in season 1999-2000. The following season saw the club clinch a second successive Championship and although season 2001-02 saw the Blues relinquish their grip on the Premier League, David Jeffrey still led his team to two knockout trophies - the CIS Cup and the Nationwide Irish Cup, the latter giving him his first success as player or manager in the premier knockout competition. |
