Canoe in the Scottish Highlands

Canoe on beach Loch Carron

I bought my  canoe on e-bay as is similar to those designed by Percy Blandford and was probably  built in the 1950s or 60s.  It was originally canvas covered but I re-covered it in PVC (however I am not sure if that was an improvement!)  It is 14 feet  long and has a 26 inch beam.  You can still buy Percy Blandford canoe plans from Clark Craft in the USA.  On the following pages you can read about the various trips that I have made with Drifter.

Birth of the Drifter  (Buying the boat and re-covering)  Torridon to Sheildaig    Loch Kishorn and the Plockton islands    Loch Maree    Kaikoura buoyancy aid  Ardmair Ullapool

Links which I have found useful:

Clark Craft   Canvas Kayak Website   The UK Sea Kayak Guidebook   Canoeing and Kayaking guidelines

Kayak Wiki (a good source for information)  The Expert Center  (A really good site for all sorts of information and instruction from Rolling  to Roof Racks)  The Historic canoe and Kayak association
