Origins
The story went that he was Earth's most powerful defender but at the same time, the most powerless.
He had been abducted by aliens from a distant and far more technologically advanced world. They had once been a carbon based life form eons ago but had now evolved to a state of, what they considered, to be perfection. But that is another story.
The story continues that they took him aboard to study humans in general and to ultimately help them take that next step up the evolutionary ladder. Although human life had only been on the planet for a few thousand years, as far as the aliens were concerned, they had not really made any progress in becoming 'better beings.' They were a bit of an embarrassment to the rest of the universe.
So they took him.
He was not a person of any great status; neither politically nor socially and that was why they picked him. A simple man who had no ideals of grandeur but was happy with his simple existence.
They took him on board and they opened him up. When he regained consciousness they told him that they had stripped him down to his basic DNA and given him an upgrade. He was now a being of incredible powers. He could harness the power of the stars and channel it through his body. He was capable on anything. He was the ultimate human. No, he was just plain Ultimate.
Then they put him back on Earth and Ultimate looked at his hands. Although he saw no physical change, he could feel the potential within him and it scared him.
He could channel the power of the stars. There was no one who could challenge him; no one who could stop him being who he wanted to be.
Except himself and his happiness with his simple existence.
So he decided to wait. A sign would be given when he would be needed to use his powers.
As time went on, others came to him. Others with similar stories of being changed or of being different. So they formed a club and decided to secretly help the human race from destroying itself.
There was one slight problem; Ultimate did not know how not to use his powers. Should he ever get into a combative situation and he blasted his enemies with a concentrated stream of super nova, how would the planet react. Not too well was the theory.
It was put to a vote and upon that result the Earth's greatest super hero was locked in a specially designed box. It was not for his good but that was democracy at work. And there he stayed until the climax of their greatest battle.
They were out numbered by a thousand-to-one and if the heroes should fail here then the entire planet would surely be destroyed. Out in the middle of the Gobi desert; only one hero left conscious and Ultimate in the box; they were surrounded. So she entered the combination and the lid sprung open …
