BONF'RE TORCHllT PROCESSION AND FIREWORKS 7th December 2002

Dear member,

'he Planning and Logistics manager for Sussex police has informed me that it is now likely that they will not support our proposed event on safety grounds. The beach party in Brighton this summer put the emergency services under great strain so un-ticketed events are a matter of concern to Sussex police. I have also received a letter from the office of the Eastbourne Highway Manager stating that our application for a road closure will not be proceeded with!

At our Open Meeting on Monday September 9th. we shall propose two options:-

1). If we have the support of Eastbourne Borough Council and if we can negotiate affordable Insurance cover. Form up for a torchlit procession from Holywell along the Lower Parade to the Wish Tower Slopes. Re-torch. Proceed along the beach to beside the Pier. Douse torches. Firework display from the end of the Pier.

2). If we cannot stage the event in Eastbourne. Process through Westham and Pevensey. Bonfire in Church Farm Field and (possibly) fireworks from Castle Walls. This will be a ticketed event. Members who have paid their subscriptions for 2002 and bought their badge will be admitted free. Members of visiting Bonfire Societies will also get free entry. All others will have to purchase tickets.

You will appreciate that we are still trying to sort out details for both the above. We should have more information for the September meeting and hope you will be there to decide which option we shall adopt. If you are unable to be at the September meeting, please write to me so that I can represent your views.

The meetings in October and November will be "badge nights", when you can renew your annual subscription.

I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting or at one of the "out meetings" to which we have been invited. Yours sincerely
