Leucadendron salignum 'fireglow'

Leucadendron's are easy to grow in Cornwall and would also grow in many other areas of the United Kingdom as many are capable of surrviving hard frosts.

These plants give a protection to other lower growing plants such as the Aloes . However their attraction is lovely bright colour throughout the year or silvery hairy leaves such as L.argenteum and uliginosum. They grow in the same well drained poor mineral soil as the other plants. I feed now with a Protea feed 24-0-16 which as you see has NO PHOSPHATE as it is detrimental to have too much. I must also say that other successful growers I have met are growing in soil that contains the addition of more humus using more 'organic means' to support/feed their plants.

There are more species available now as well as their hybrids and we are fortunate in having some good retail outlets supplying us here in Cornwall.
