The Emergency & Minor Accident Unit (EMAU) is
part of the Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) situated in Kendal.
The Team is supported by seven Nurse Practitioners, two Practitioner
Assistants, four Staff Grade doctors, a Consultant and the local
Primary Care Out of Hours Service.

EMAU see around 21,000 patients a year
and serves a population catchment of approximately 100,000 people.
Tourism accounts for an estimated 7 million visitor nights per annum
reflected by a significant increase in EMAU activity throughout
the summer months.
Patients attend EMAU through self referral, GP referral, other
sources of primary care & 999. Cumbria Ambulance Service is
guided by protocol with regard to what type of cases to bring to
the unit. WGH has no intensive care facility and limited. paediatric
facilities, hence, certain cases are diverted straight to the Royal
Lancaster Infirmary. |
