The RLI runs a flying squad is service
that is mobilised on request by Ambulance Control. It allows senior
medical and nursing staff from A&E to quickly get to the scene
of an accident or emergency. This in turn allows the use of more
advanced techniques to treat trauma victims.
The Flying squad is usually called out to motor vehicle accidents
where one or more passengers are entrapped but will respond to any
medical emergency if required.
On average the squad is called out approximately 12 times a year.
It is partly funded by charitable donations. Collection days have
recently been held in Lancaster and Kendal. The department is grateful
for the support of the public in helping run this important service.
