Norfolk Family History Society This has been a useful resource for me and represents just one of the many county groups that exist across the country. Good links to a range of resources. Family Search A comprehensive online search engine for locating web resources via the LDS Ancestral File, the International Genealogical Index, and web sites Familia Another excellent resource for tracking down the homes of those elusive documents, from telephone and trade directories to maps, census returns and others. GOONS Find out if your name is currently being researched by anyone else with the help of the GOONS - that's the Guild Of One Name Studies. Family History Fairs A list of Family History Fair dates in the UK where you can meet like-minded researchers, purchase resource material and such like. Kent Family History Resources Web Site on genealogy sources for Kent, England Shippng Lists for Victoria, Australia Passenger lists for ships sailing into Victoria, Australia from British ports between 1852 and 1859. Victorian London Lots of useful information for those doing local history research or looking for descendants in Victorian London. No foggy streets or gas lamps but plenty of online resources. Knowsley Local History This site is split into a number of logical sections about the local history, inhabitants, buildings and events of Knowsley and represents an excellent example of how local history can come alive on the world wide web. GENERAL HISTORY SITES Public Records Office An excellent government site with links to various chapters on British history, guide to PRO resources, merchandise, etc. Learning Curve Find out ways in which you can research history using the historical evidence and resources provided on this extensive site. Ideal for new researchers, children and students. Century Road An evocative oral history by the residents of four streets built across the UK around the 1900's and all christened Century Road. National Archive of Australia This Australian government homepage is a great place to start for those with descendants from "down under" and particularly useful for those researching Australian military history. BBC History Online A quality site featuring 3D historical fly-bys, audio dramas, games, events guide and more. Most tie in with current BBC programmes. ARCHAEOLOGY SITES Time Team Channel4's popular archaeology programme comes to the web complete with site reports, reconstructions, photos and comments from the team. |
