Francis Durbridge (1912-1998) remains one of the most accomplished of thriller writers. Deadly Nightcap is one of his last plays, first performed at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford in 1983. Jack Radford is plotting to kill his wife, but not without trying to convince her that she is on the verge of a breakdown. Murder and mystery abound in an ingenious plot, with more than its share of twists, turns and blind alleys. . . . By the end of Act I, you may have decided who is guilty . . . but are you correct?
