an introduction from Nick Price: Minister in Training
It has been a year since I started my training to become a Baptist Minister at Bristol Baptist College and what a hectic and tiring year it has been. I’ve had an extremely busy timetable of lectures as I am hoping to complete the degree course in two years and then in my third year possibly start some post graduate studies. In my first year I have covered lots of subjects and read many, many books. Greek was both fascinating and baffling! The experience of preaching at college and at churches I have visited has been on one level very scary and on another wonderful as I have seen God use me in ways I didn’t think possible.
Here I am now in Harvington thanking God for his provision for me and my family once again! It’s been a long journey from my birth in Walsall so many years ago. On the way I survived school and made it to university only to fail an engineering degree before starting full time work. I’d had part time work delivering weekly papers, then peeling potatoes for a chip shop, working as a barman before progressing to work in a betting shop. My first full time work was with a ready mixed concrete company during which time I married the gorgeous Yvonne with her two sons Richard and David who were joined later by our son Nathan. Redundancy after six years left me with few transferable skills so I went back to university and trained as a psychiatric nurse. After eight years of nursing I’ve gone back to university for a third time.
I became a follower of Jesus Christ aged eighteen on a youth summer camp near Rhossilli in South Wales and since then God has always guided my path and provided for all my needs - he truly is a faithful God! My path through life has not been straightforward and the purpose of each step has not been obvious until I look back years later. I think it is really important to look back to recognise how God has guided and provided and so give thanks and praise for his wonderful love.
I pray that my time with the community in Harvington will be one of shared joy and worship. I believe that God calls us to make not just converts but disciples and my prayer is that we will all grow in our individual relationship with God and with one another, showing the kind of sacrificial love Jesus demonstrated when he lived as a man here on earth.
Your servant in Jesus Christ
Nick
