Yahoo Messenger
is one of many ways to have instant inter-active text and speech correspondence over the Internet.Of course, you could go to any chat room and have text communication there - however the Yahoo service like others similar to it, offer communication with people of your choice, not a whole bunch in a chat room.
Text:
Gives 2 windows, so that you and a chosen friend (or friends in a conference) can send instant text messages to and fro.
Drawbacks: None really, it operates very well and less confusing than a Chat Room.
Voice:
Like text above, it gives the same text facility, but also add instant voice communication between a chosen friend (or friends in a conference). This is similar to the telephone call but you have text as well if you need it.
Drawbacks: Can have time delays, or cut offs especially when the other person(s) is/are a long distance away, eg: between England and far(West) coast of America , say California
REQUIREMENTS:
Text:
A decent speed PC (say P166 or better, but can work on older PCs)
Voice:
A decent speed PC (say P166 or better, but can work on older PCs) and a sound card/built-in sound with microphone.
COST: It's FREE
