System Performance - More speed - Read-ahead Cachings - Error Corrections
Often used information is read into memory (to a cache, pronounced 'cash'), so that instead of going to the hard drive for it and then reading it from memory - it is already there - this speeds up the system's performance.
Normally the typical role of the machine for caching is the Desktop role. For users of Windows95 Release 2, there is however a role where more memory is used for the cache and this is the Network Server role.
To change to this role:
Full (4th tick) - Your PC has no problems
3rd tick: If PC has mouse problems
Second tick: Severe problems, program errors.
None - 1st tick: Computer frequently stops or has severe problems
When you re-start your PC it goes through the configuration process showing all the commands..etc. This takes time and since much of this information is already lodged in memory it can be re-used for a 'quick re-start'.
To do this use Start, Shutdown, Re-start and keep the Shift key down on the keyboard AS you click OK.
Windows Folders - Browse in, Close All, Max & Min All
You can use these functions dependent on the options you have chosen in View Folder Options
Find in Current Folder
You can always search for a file using Find from a main folder e.g: C:\ but you won't see Find on the menu in sub folders - solution:
In any sub folder e.g. Windows\System press F3 for the Find box. This will show the current folder in the LookIn box e.g: in this case C:\Windows\System.
Close All
If you have set the Window View, Folder Options, to 'View each folder in it's own Window' - then although this has it's advantages, you are likely to get many windows overlapping on the screen, each of which you will have to close at some stage. This can be speeded up by holding down the Shift key as you close the last opened window.
Maximise/Minimise All Window Folders
Although you may use the right click on numerous occasions, you may not have noticed how to Maximise & Minimise All Windows by using it.
If you have many windows overlapping on the screen, then:
