WILLITON BRANCH

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION

1933

You'll be with me

Don't worry for me my mother dear,

My soul is strong and free,

Just pluck a poppy from the earth,

That way you'll be with me.

WEST SOMERSET ROYAL BRITISH LEGION WOMEN'S GROUP

Report for Year 2011 from the Williton President

The ladies of the Williton Branch had a very satisfactory year in 2011.We held all our usual fund-raising events, like the village fete and coffee mornings at members homes. We held a very successful party on the green in Northcroft in aid of the Legion's 90th anniversary project , which is the creation of a Battleback Challenge Centre for young men and women who return from Afghanistan with serious injuries. We raised over £300 on a day when the weather was not kind to us. We also joined with other villagers on the Royal Wedding Day and Armed Forces Day, also the Christians Together service in Watchet. We had our Poppy Appeal coffee morning in the new Parish Council offices. We are very grateful for the use of these premises. Thank You. Our Christmas Bazaar was also profitable. We thank Danesborough View residents for the use of their Common Room. We attended the County Conference. Mrs Mattravers won the Lady Brooke Popham cup for crochet and the group also won the Stavely cup for efficiency. Mr, Pearson kindly donated a hot water urn, which will come in very handy. Many Thanks. We bought a large gazebo, which will be very useful when the weather is unsettled and we have an outdoor event to attend. A summer outing to the Butchers Arms for lunch was enjoyed by members. We also had a Christmas lunch at the Wyndham Arms. Two joint ventures with the group were successful: a coffee morning at Willow Grove,Washford, raised £429. 92. Our buffet tea at Raleigh Cross raised £533. This is a great result and thanks to all who worked so hard on these occasions. Altogether the branch raised £827.57 and we donated £83.60 to British Legion causes. I would like to thank my officers and committee and members for all their hard work this year. Let's hope we can continue the the good work in 2012. Our next meeting is on February 13th , when we hope Captain McKee.will be well enough to join us. We meet at the Fire Station at 2.30 pm. For more information, please contact Mrs. P Stephens on 632230.

If you would like to join the ladies of West Somerset group please contact either Mrs Stephens on 01984 632230 or Mrs Ensor on 01984 631586 and they will be happy to speak to you and put you in touch with the relevant branch.
