| Over the years we have built a large amount of stock, which is used
on all our layouts. The stock is either kit built or scratchbuilt, and all vehicles are
fully compensated or sprung. The wagons come from a variety of kit manufacturers including Slaters, Cambrian and others. Most of the kits have been "improved " in one way or another, by the addition of for example, sprung buffers, internal detail, loads and tarpaulins etc. Many of the wagons, especially LBSCR wagons, are scratchbuilt from sheet plastic. All have been subtly weathered. The coach kits are from Roxey, Branchlines, Blacksmith Models, D&S, and Microrail. The stock list includes coaches from most periods of the "Brighton" - Stroudley 4 and 6 wheel stock, Billington 6 wheel stock, and later 48ft, 54ft and Balloon stock - in the three main liveries, mahogany, umber and white, and plain umber. In amongst the kits, there are also six scratchbuilt coaches - a rake of Billington six wheelers, and a "balloon" push-pull coach. These were built about 20 years ago, before any "Brighton" coach kits were available - there is little point these days in building anything other than kits, apart from some very specialised models. Apart from the kits mentioned above, there is a Royal Train from Smokey Locos waiting to be built. The locos are all scratchbuilt, with the exception of a Wealden kit of an E4, and a kit of a G single from an un-named source which was so appallingly badly designed it had to be virtually scratchbuilt anyway! All the locos have handbuilt chassis, fully compensated, and with split-axle pick-up. Many were built originally with open frame motors (mostly Anchoridge D11's and D13's) but most have now been converted to Portescaps, with much improved running. A section on loco building will be added to this site at some point. A few photographs of stock will be added when the opportunity arises! |
