Cycle Audit, Welsh-style

In designing road schemes and improvement, government in England follows guidelines for cycle audits developed professionally. Cycling interests are checked at stages throughout the design and pre-completion.

But for the A470 "improvements" north from the Coryton interchange, the cycle audit will come only on completion. The scheme is of course well underway. The ‘hard shoulders’ are being converted to a third lane, but currently there’s a 40mph limit and with good visibility cycling is okay. On completion, however, it will become a 60mph nightmare. The cycle audit will be easy – unsafe.

The Welsh highwaymen’s way to get round the principle that all roads (except Motorways) should be available to cyclists – and be audited for cycling and safety. Does anyone still argue that the Welsh Assembly has been a good thing for cycling?
