SUSTAINABLE FUTURE?
"Climate change is the world's greatest environmental challenge. We have global warming at a rate that began as significant, has become alarming and is simply unsustainable in the long term," (Tony Blair, September 2004).
Environmental concerns are now at the heart of the education agenda and there is increasing pressure for schools to be managed sustainably. In England, a new sustainable schools programme is under way and the Government is developing a school-specific method of environmental assessment for all new school buildings. Elsewhere, The Scottish Executive has published guidance on school design.
