Dear Mr Hamilton,

Cotswold District Council - planning application CT 8238 - Country House at Bagpath

I refer to my telephone call to you of last week as the agent of Mr. and Mrs. Cardale requesting a copy of the documentation for the above application and your sympathetic response explaining that time and cost prohibited this. I am pleased to advise you that I now have free access to a copy.

However, I have received requests from people seeking sight of the proposals who have not been as fortunate as I, some of whom do not live locally or for other reasons have difficulty accessing the details of the application.

I would like to assist in bringing as many of the details of the proposed development at Scrubbetts, Bagpath to as wide an audience as possible and seek your permission to publish on the internet web site www.nothanks.org.uk , with full acknowledgement of your copyright, of course, those documents over which you have control which form part of the application.

You will, I am sure, appreciate that in the extremely short timescale available for consultation I would have to concentrate on transferring the most important aspects of the application. I would be guided by you as to which sections you think I should address first. If you could let me have any of the documentation in electronic form this would speed the process.

The sheer volume of material to assimilate, consider and comment on in the 3 week consultation period is causing difficulty. I, and I believe others, have asked the case officer to extend the consultation period. Regrettably he has refused. I wonder if you would be prepared to approach him.

I hope that you will agree that it would be a shame if the lack of availability of the documentation and only a 3 week consultation period for a proposal given huge publicity at the RIBA competition stage prevented considered comment at this the public stage. I trust that you will be able to take steps to ensure that this does not happen.

I remain

Yours sincerely

M G Challis

Craig Hamilton replied (22nd July) saying that he has a policy of not publishing his work on the web, that it is not within his powers to persuade the Planning Authority to extend the planning period and that he would prefer it if I would refrain from putting his letter on the web page. I am happy to respect that wish and imagine that readers will formulate their own explanations of why this should be.
