1 December 2006

Dear All,

I hope you enjoyed our Open Water events this year.

The open water qualifications that took place at our venues were the National Beach Award, Assistant Beach Lifesaver, Emergency Response Certificate, the Bronze and Silver Cross Awards.

From our extensive training programme and through progression we were fortunate to have Danny Wood qualify as a Full Beach Trainer Assessor, having travelled to Hastings for the course along with Paul Flint who is still probationary but will hopefully complete his training in 2007. Congratulations go to Danny for his successful completion at our 2006 beach sessions at Fleetwood.

This will certainly help to improve the constant research, development programme and team support that we as Lifeguard Units require for our ongoing progression.

Congratulations are also in order to Sid Holt for his availability as trainer assessor for the Aquatic Rescue for Supervisors, which will be helpful for our programmed swimming open water tests. Congratulations also go to Linda Swettenham who is now upgraded to Beach/Pool/Lifesaving Mentor.

Uniform and personal equipment requirements for our development programme was adhered to, this complies with our risk assessment, the completion and return by the due date, of application forms was much appreciated, this meant that forward planning could be put in place before the event.

The awareness of candidates’ suitability for the appropriate award and pre requirements was also noted. Once more please do not turn up on the day as place numbers are limited for Safety Precautions and to comply with the Risk Assessment. Our aim is to encourage the recognition of a safe open water environment with appropriately trained Lifesavers and Lifeguards.

It is imperative that application forms for Beach Awards are returned by 31st January 2007 to enable theory sessions to be scheduled for the correct amount of hours and to enable the administration to be completed in time.

Our venues still offer excellent and suitable facilities to comply with our requirements and our future development and the two Lifeguard Units from Broadway and Failsworth Lifesaving Club and Fleetwood Lifesaving Club will still provide professional and reliable team support.

Many thanks for your clubs’ enthusiasm, dedication and discipline, these attributes certainly helped to control a safe environment for our open water activities in 2006.

Finally our Branch’s Executive Officers have promised to be available to assist if necessary this coming year with the Bronze and Silver Cross Awards, and thanks go to them.

We are looking forward to seeing you all this coming year and thank you for your continued support and commitment.

Yours faithfully

William G. Andrew
Branch Lifeguard Co-ordinator.
